This is a mens barber shop. The guys are good. Been going there about a year now. Prices are fair (I think $22 for a cut) considering that these guys actually know how to cut hair. Especially if you have black or biracial hair. Good luck with other shops around here. Ill pay an extra $5 for that every single time. Its always the same 2-3 guys so you know them. Last year I bounced between shops in Berkeley and had little Asian ladies butcher my head over and over. The last time I had one of them cut my hair it was terrible. Had to shave my head bald it was so bad. So Im thrilled with the dudes at Amplify. Theres an Armenian (Lebanese? I never remember) barber, Eli, who can literally give you a haircut with nothing but a straight razor. Best cut I ever had. The other regular is Eric who does good work too. Both guys leave me looking sharp. Im an older guy and have had good barbers on two coasts and a few places in between. This shop is my favorite out of all of them. Ill be sorry when I leave Berkeley and have to go through the process again. In short, these guys are great. Youll pay probably $5-7 more (w/tip) than the junk Asian barbers and chain shops you find elsewhere. But man. Its WORTH it. Its ALWAYS a great cut. Word is some of the Warriors team gets cuts here. One of the barbers showed me a pic of him with Steve Kerr and I thinnnkkk Draymond G from last year when they came in from a cut. Cash only and walk-in only. This place is legit fellas. Not sure why so few reviews about Amplify but this is mine. I always get haircut compliments from female friends after seeing these guys. Thumbs up. (No I dont work here, LOL. Im a grad student at the school.). Cant vouch for hipster hairstyles of course.

The absolute worst haircut Ive ever gotten. My experience here was nothing short of awful. I walked in asking for my sides to be taken in and a little trim on the top. I made sure to specify that I didnt want much taken off the top. After she finished I realised she had taken off about 70% of the volume on my top. And she shaved my sides so close that I didnt even have sideburns anymore. I couldnt tell what my hair was looking like during the cut because she turned me away from the mirror. They also forced my girlfriend (who was waiting on the couch) into getting a haircut there, instead of going to her typical salon. She hated her haircut as well. They cut half her hair and left the rest untouched. In the end I ended up wasting money and time on the worst haircut I have ever gotten in my 24 years. This shop is pitiful to say the least. Their barbers are the worst and most careless I have come across. I will never return. I strongly urge anyone that reads this review to stay far away from this shop. Good thing my hair grows back fast..

First off, the place is pricey so if you are arent willing to drop $25 with tip for a haircut this isnt for you. There are occasionally long lines but what does that tell you? Walk-ins only so dont get any ideas. With all that being said, they are the best mens haircut place in Berkeley, never been disappointed, you can just tell them to surprise you and you will leave with a smile on your face. The environment is essentially a pseudo-barbershop style, you can to the barbers about just anything and if you are open to weird and entertaining conversation you can easily have a good time. Would recommend to all those willing to spend the money!

Theyre a group of really great barbers, though you need to learn how to chill, as theyll definitely poke fun at you. Although its a bit pricy, I always get a solid haircut over here, and Ive almost never been disappointed. Make sure to show them a photo of what you want, so they will know exactly how they should cut it. Ask for Sonom or Eric and you definitely will not regret your decision to get your cut here!

My worst haircut ever. I prefer a longer and a bit messy style and came with a lot of hair. While I was trying to explain what I want, the guy who cut my hair interrupted me and told that he totally understood what I need... and made some standard haircut which does not fit my type of hair at all. Now it will take at least two months to grow something reasonable.

The hair cut was OK, not bad, not good. But the price of 22$ is more expensive than other barbers around the area. And for that price, you can only expect the minimum service. If you like the barbers talking and laughing (a lot together), you will be happy. If you expect to be treated like a real customer, you wont.

Mostly for the college crowd, my 8-year-old likes it for the decrepit pool table. Old Playboy magazines fill the racks and the equipment has seen better days. But the haircuts are good enough for the price and the barbers are friendly.

Great dudes who do a great job. Price is 22 which is what Ive seen to be close to bay area average.
