Ive used quite a few different mechanics, but keep going back to Campus Auto. John and Pat have always taken excellent care of me, their repairs have held up, and Ive never had to go back to them for the same issue twice. Ive never felt overcharged, and theyve always been thorough about sourcing used or less-expensive parts when factory ones seemed exorbitant. Since I took my first car there in 1982, theyve worked on a 1971 Mustang, a 1980 Scirocco, a 1983 Civic, a 1994 Ranger, 1996 Taurus, and a 2001 Audi TT, all with equal aplomb. Theyre very much a mechanical shop, doing mostly engine, drivetrain, and suspension work, and no bodywork at all. I recommend them highly and without qualification.

I was first exposed to these guys when AAA towed me here. They seemed to do a good job with the engine, but they also broke my rearview mirror and refused to accept the blame. I wouldnt back down but the most I could do was get them to glue it back together; it works well enough now. It was pretty unpleasant, but the mechanics were all polite to me. What inspired me to write this review was a call I just made with them, on behalf of my company, comparing different estimates for replacing a battery lead. The guy on the phone was downright hostile! I think he thought I was stupid for calling ahead, instead of just bringing it in and accepting whatever they wanted to charge me. Whatever.

I never write reviews but this car repair service is the best I have ever encountered. John is very knowledgeable, dependable, HONEST, and investigates things very thoroughly. My van kept needing jumps and I was told it was because I wasnt driving it enough by all of the towing companies. I had a new battery installed and it kept happening. John investigated it over a week and determined it was a bad battery so I was able to have a new one free from the towing company that had provided it. The same thing happened yet again and John also did a through investigation. Hes also been very good and honest about other problems I have had with the car. Hes very honest and knows his business.

Quick and pleasant staff, they seem direct and honest, my Berkeley car shop. Ive taken my car here a number of times and theyve always been very quick with jobs and have never tried to add unnecessary extras. I felt like they were being honest with me and cared about my return business. I recently had a head light replaced here and it got incredibly dim within a month. I took it back and they quickly found it was a connection problem, but replaced the bulb anyway just in case (no cost to me). Will continue taking my Ford Taurus here.

I have been bringing my older Honda to this pleasant and efficient place since I moved to Berkeley 2 years ago. The service is always excellent. I feel like I am in very reliable hands. I have sent a couple of people here who agree, and who report that the price for routine work is much better here... Highly recommend.
