Edoko is the best thing that ever happened to that block since Army surplus moved, Gumbys went under, and Al Lashers was concieved. Unlike most Japanese restaurants, Edoko spared the pricy decor (see Akasaka), and keep its buffet menu well rotated. Of course it has the routine buffet items, and they are strict about uneaten rice, but that and the fish clubber on the wall make it that much more authentic. Their fish is FRESH everytime I am in there, and they always have a new desert to top off the light entrees and the well crafted sushi. Apart from the fact that the miso is so good you will feel bad filling up on that and their selection of beers, there are a few very critical aspects of Edoko you must not forgo. Fried california rolls. Some call them rock n rolls, others tempura california roll, but nonetheless, Edoko is superior in that department. Fresh sushi. At their prices, and at that quality you will be taken back to your days studying under mister Miyagi in Okinawa in a sublime seafood drunk euphoria. The cost. I know you are used to eating slim with your custom stick set, but you should save that philosophy for a non-buffet joint. This is a cruise ship style kitchen, and the couple that runs this place are not impressed with your neo-azn style and your scruples. You should expect to pay 14 to 20 dollars per head and get your body weight in food with good service. When the only other Japanese buffets in town are on Telegraph and have odd hours or high prices, Akasaka you know who you are, then Edoko will satisfy your craving like Godzira satisfied Mothra. Shocking good taste and a heavy blow to the abdomen. Millions of peaches (and lychees too!)... I rate them average because they set the bar.

All You Can Eat! for 12.99(lunch) I love sushi, and Ive been in different places(not all of them) in Berkeley. Im giving five stars to this place not because is the best sushi ever, but because the quality, quantity, price, is 4 stars. The salad bar has a good variety, they also have miso soup (you can add tofu an other stuff). They have OK tempura (shrimps, and vegetables), and some cooked food, like mushrooms, also mussels, dumplings and rolls. The dessert bar was modest, since they have cookies, tapioca, oranges, peaches mainly, but it doesnt really matter because you will be full after the sushi! The main dish, the sushi! they have basically nigiris which is fish on top of rice, (shrimp, egg, tuna, salmon, mackerel, squid?, snapper? ) and the maki, (california, spicy tuna avocado, salmon avocado, small salmon roe, seaweed, etc ) You can see the guys preparing the sushi. The fish has a good taste and it looks fresh. The rice, the wasabi and ginger are OK, but everything taste very well together. The place is clean and the waitress was nice. All You Can Eat!!

I dont know what happened, a couple years ago for the weekend dinners you could go there and they had king crab legs, excellent (not top quality) but really good sashimi, the sushi had less rice than it does now and was made a lot better.. I really dont get it, I think they dont understand business- if you lower your quality to cut costs, youll lose customers - simple as that. In the long run it costs you a lot more. Yesterday, the sashimi was poorly cut, still cold from being frozen (with some ice), terrible flavor (I mainly eat the salmon). I dont understand how you can mess up cutting Salmon, I had no experience doing so and I cut it properly my first try. Two years ago, this place would be 5 stars. Today? 1. And I believe thats being generous considering I had to spend $105 for $5 last night. Terrible, edoko. We wont be back, sorry.

I have been to this restaurant several times and I always enjoyed my time in Edoko. The sushi is made rather well for its price, and it has a good variety. The people who work there are really good at how they work; at a steady pace yet they get the job done at the right time. The sushi is made at a reasonably well & consistent pace. Im not the type of person who makes specific orders in buffets but I do know the option is there. The food that is displayed at the buffet has a big variety and the sushi keeps getting made until nearing closing hours. If theres a dish you like but do not see in the displays you can always ask, though often (especially at dinner hours) that dish is being made before you ask. The workers are also very nice & helpful, and are knowledgable of the food they make.

Good sushi at a good price. All you can eat. I go to Edoko about every two weeks. The sushi is good and its fresh because if you look beyond the buffet table, you can see it being made and the fresh sushi being brought out. At $11.99 for lunch and a few bucks more for dinner, for all you can eat, you are not going to get a better deal. Certainly not at the fancier sushi places. The sushi is good. Its practically all nigiri *fish on top of rice), salmon, mackerel, tuna, eel, crab, seaweed as regulars and some extras. They have one baked roll You also get miso soup and a salad bar. If you want sushi and dont want to pay $30 or more. This is the place to go. I dont know how the guy below managed to spend $105, its an all you can eat place for $11-14 per person.

Edoko is an amazing place to eat. Food is served buffet style, and is amazingly, reasonably, priced. Fish (sushi style) is fresh and well prepared. There is a "hot table" with a good array of dumplings, shrimp & vegetable tempura, steamed fish, mussels, mIso soup etc., And "cold table" with many salad selections. I manage to have lunch and sometimes dinner, at Edoko least once and sometimes twice a week.. It is one of my favorite places... I certainly give it 4.5 stars It is quiet, peaceful, and in many ways feels like a country restaurant in rural Japan.

Ive been going to Edoko since it opened seven or so years ago and have never gotten a bad piece of sushi. The food is always fresh and the variety is amazing. Such a deal for well under $20. Ive done comparisons with other sushi bars, since Im a real fan of Japanese food, and can assure you that you wont find this kind of quality and volume at twice the price. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. They even have drink bargains during happy hour. Check them out, you wont be sorry.

This is a small, informal, no frills all you can eat sushi bar with ridiculously good food and an insane price point to boot. The chef (James) makes all his sauces in house and all the fish taste tender and fresh. Theres rolls, sashimi, nigiri, tempura, and teriyaki plus a dessert bar. The atmosphere is casual and comforting and the food tastes great. You cant possibly do better than this for under $20
