We are over in USA to help our daughter go through a messy divorce and custody battle of our grandchild , which we have very happily won. This has left former son in laws car to be driven by our daughter . It is 11 years old and in a really bad condition.We took it to this garage , ( We believed we could be potentially ripped off ) as there seemed some dodgy garages around . Karin told us it would be $130 dollars for valuation and condition report. We left it with him and he very kindly gave us a free car to use . The next day we returned and were told of what was wrong , we knew there was a lot . The work was costed at over $4,000 which made it impractical for us . Karin gave us a buy value in its present condition of $2,700 which was really good , further more he explained everything that was wrong with the vehicle ,the options open to us , showed us a couple of cars which sadly didnt meet our requirements phoned around to see if he could locate something suitable locally.If anything we feel we ripped himoff taking so much of his time. He turned out to be such a truthful , helpful guy and we will have no fear in getting work done on our daughters car , when we find one. whilst being 7,000 miles away in UK . In our 7 weeks here in Davis everyone has been so kind , caring and polite.But the hero of the city has to be Karin .We look forward to returning in the near future and have no fear in recommending the establishment. These guys are great! Fast, friendly, and very honest. Ive gone to them after getting repair quoted from other places in Davis, and theyve ALWAYS beaten them. Another place even told me once that I had to replace my whole axel (which would have cost around $500), and Karin (the owner of University Imports) said the problem would be fixed just fine by only replacing the CV boots (costing me around $150). They also understand financial situations, and will work with you to figure out the best way to get your car running without breaking the bank. Ive never trusted a car repair place more than I trust these guys.

Low Hertz

Karin is an exceptional/genius mechanic. He can fix anything but will often advise against expensive repairs saying they are not worth it. He will also come up with low cost solutions to expensive repairs. For example, my Prius side view window broke, a $400 repair with all kinds of frills. He simply replaced the mirror glass itself, Toyota couldnt do it. He stands behind repairs. He put a transmission into my old Mittsubishi, and when it had problems, replaced it at no cost.

I brought my car in on Friday morning for a repair. The shop failed to call me, or return my call on Friday afternoon. They left for the weekend and never called me. Now my car is locked up, and Im on call for the weekend without a car. The people at this shop need to learn some communication skills. If you use your car, dont bring it here. If you dont mind leaving your car until they feel like giving it back, this may be the shop for you.

Brought a Subaru Forester in on Friday morning before the Labor Day holiday weekend and they were able to fit me in to repair a wheel bearing. They fixed the problem for about $50 less than what most people were saying they paid for the same repair on a Subaru internet forum.
