The facility is lovely as were the teachers. However, after buying the beautiful $40+ costume they gave out the performance times and my 4 year old childs preschool dance class is scheduled to perform at 8:00 pm. And tickets are $30 a person for a 40 second performance at 8:00 pm. My child has health concerns and I feel that having a preschool class on stage that late is really unprofessional. When I inquired with the front desk their comment was, "We cant put all the preschool classes first thing with the first performance." The first act starts at 1:00pm. Truthfully, they put all of the performances back to back for the preschool classes. And honestly it would be the best performance because small children dancing is just adorable! Her class is number 43 on the performance list out of 45 performances. The last dance class I went to the front counter and filled out a form to unenrolled from dance because my child has been asking to not go for over a month. She just needs a break and that is not CDMAs fault. When I kindly explained that she would not be at the performance because it is at 8:00 PM and with her health its unwise for her to be there the front desk was unapologetically unkind and argumentative. I was not looking for an apology, I felt that it was the right thing to do to let them know a week before hand that she would not be at the dress rehearsal for the performance. And rather than being appreciative of me letting them know it was a curt and rude encounter. I left feeling a bit perlext. I didnt tell them how insensitive their performance time was or demand a refund for a dress she wont wear. I kindly stated she wouldnt be there due to the time and her health. Feeling a bit burned and really disappointed in this experience. Also, you are not allowed to film your childs performance, just an FYI.

The owner of this place is very discriminatory against low income families. My special needs child WAS on a scholarship with them and when it came time for their final performance at cal poly, we couldnt afford to participate and Kathy got extremely nasty with me and kicked my daughter off scholarship and out of the program (we couldnt buy the costume, travel to SLO, or buy the expensive tickets to get in just to see a 5 minute dance performance..i told kathy to get us tickets if you want my daughter to participate so badly and she wouldnt/didnt want to--mind you we are a family of 6..so we need 6 tickets. the tickets were roughly $30 each! My special needs daughter wont want to participate also unless her family is there for her..its apart of her disability) then she had the nerve to blame it on me for getting my daughter kicked out. I cant help it that we dont have the extra funds hence why we had her on scholarship. Ever since one of the teachers left unexpectedly without a word to any of the students (Miss Molly), my daughter wasnt having as good of an experience either, she did not want to attend class any more (but i kept making her go after Molly left). They also dont give you the option to "opt-out" of the performance, they dont tell you how much the tickets cost or anything before they start making the routine. In my daughters class, there were a few "new" students coming in as they were doing the rehearsal for the performance, those students just had to sit in the back of the studio and watch and didnt get to participate in class except for the warm up.

My daughter came to CDMA when she was 7 years old and was a very shy girl. I enrolled her in ballet, jazz, singing, piano and theater classes and she loved it. CDMA helped my daugther develop her artistic side and helped her improve her social skills. Thanks to CDMA my daughter is now not afraid to speak in public, has a lot of confidence and has discovered many new talents. The teachers are kind, caring, loving, always encourage the children to be themselves and try new things. My daughter who is now 9 12has told me many times how CDMA has given her the opportunity to grow into a more beautiful person inside. She also loves her friends and her teachers. CDMA is like our second home. For my family CDMA is a very special place because children can have the opportunity to dream, dance, sing, play music, act, feel happy and be very safe.

My son has been dancing with CDMA for two years. He has enjoyed not only the dancing but his teachers, the friends he has made, and the overall positive environment. I grew up dancing and am thrilled to have found a studio that reflects the quality and professionalism that I feel is of utmost importance. I have recently joined the CDMA staff on both the administrative and teaching teams and am so proud to be part of this company! I have seen first hand how children have grown, creatively and otherwise, from their experiences in classes and performing. For many of our students CDMA has become a home away from home and I am thankful to be a part of this extended family.

CDMA is the studio I wish I could have gone to growing up! Not only does CDMA offer top quality dance instruction (my daughter takes tap, ballet, and jazz classes), they also offer a variety of theater and music classes for children and teens. But the best part.... they have developed adult dance classes that welcome those of us who never learned as children but have dance in their souls! An added bonus is the sense of family and community that develops among CDMA families (partly due to the beautiful and comfortable lobby accommodations). Highly recommend it!
