This used to be our go-to place for good barbecue and family dining, but we havent been in a few years. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has suffered and the prices are considerably higher. My husband and I ordered the brisket (juicy style), and it was very dry and quite bland. I had the fried okra and mac n cheese for sides, both of which tasted like they came from a frozen package. I would have liked a glass of wine, but $8 a glass was not worth it! All in all it was a very poor value. Dont expect to bring home a doggie bag. The servings were on the small side, but with the big piece of corn bread, youll come away full. Too bad the honey butter served with it is unsalted and did little to balance the sweetness. Bland all around! I have always loved the ambiance here - very comfortable and fun with all the knick-knacks. This time, however, the music was a little off, playing a strange mix of R&B pop, rock and country, with announcements after every couple of songs. Annoying. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, but that is not enough of a draw to bring us back again.

Visited for the first time today. I have been looking all over Sacramento and Roseville for good Barbecue and / or good Beef Ribs. After my visit, I think Ill stop looking for other places. I had 4 Beef Ribs with BBQ Beans and Mac n Cheese. Got the cornbread. Barbecue-style Beef Ribs here are way better than baked (which you can find at a couple of places). Beans were good. Mac n Cheese here taste the closest to homemade out of what Ive tried around the area. Im not huge on cornbread but it was between ok and good for me. The sides and cornbread were good portions and were included with the main course. For the above, a regular soft drink, and berry cobbler for desert (served a la mode), at the time of this review was about $40. The main course included the two sides and bread, and is competitively priced against other similar choices around the area. The quality made it more than worth it. My service was excellent here (although it was just after they opened their doors during a work day - not a packed house).

I grew up in North Dallas and as a Texan I love legit BBQ and this place has it right. I ordered food for my staff and got a mix of Chicken and St Louis Ribs and sides... ST Louis was perfect, the Chicken when you pick up was falling off the bone just trying to put on my plate. There are few people who can smoke right and have meat fall off leaving a blast of flavor. Back Forty has it to the "T". I have been to several places in Sacramento and this is at the top. From OConners to Lucilles I would pick this instantly over both. Already looking forward to next office event everyone was crawling back to work from food coma.... Like my mother always says "the way to the heart is food" and this earned me so many points! Warning: If you order the full slab of pork ribs here, immediately box and lock up half your order for self-protection. Otherwise youll eat yourself into a coma within the first 5 minutes. Im done begging the Brand X Roadhouse to open a location here in the Roseville area. No need, now that Ive found Back Forty.Instead of being forced to wait 30 minutes at the bar buying beers while that Roadhouse place prepares my rib take-out order, the kind staff at the Back Forty have my dinner in my sweaty hands within a couple of minutes -- and its the most succulent tasty ribs Ive ever eaten (the other places ribs are really good -- but the Back Fortys are REALLY outstanding! Cant wait to go back and eat my way through the rest of their menu!

I was excited to go to Back Forty with my Entertainment coupon this year with my husband. Even though the food is excellent the service is quite poor. I did not get a refill on my drink and sat there for quite a while before leaving without anything to drink and the waitress was long gone and had been for quite some time. My husband wasnt asked if hed like another beer. It just seemed kind of strange. We experienced a similar experience last year when we took our Entertainment coupon in. If the service was better, wed go back more. It just seems like the people that work there are not very happy and do not care if their customers are either.

We have tried this place multiple times over 7 or 8 years, usually because friends want to go and every time it has not been good food or service. The last time we went the waitress spilled an entire salad in our friends purse, then proceeded to try and dump her purse out on to the table. She stopped her and started cleaning it herself. in the end on this visit we got no discount or even an apology, no refills on our drinks and most of our dinners were missing one of the two side dishes. About the only thing that was decent is the briscuit/tri tip sandwiches, but for the price not really worth it.

I was a little wary because it seems like an old place. Typically old places dont keep up with current standards but I saw the 4 star review and gave a shot. Do not go here. Bland food thats overpriced. I ordered the pork quarter slab (3 rib) plate that came with two sides and cornbread. The meat had no taste and had a weird texture. Maybe it came frozen? The onion rings were okay probably came frozen and premade. The corn chowder wasnt bad but not good either. The corn bread was pretty dry even though it came out hot. The honey butter was good. Overall for $15 I expected way better tasting food.

I Just had lunch catered in for an event at work serving 28 people that know how to eat. Back Forty has left us all in a food coma totally stuffed with way more left over food than 28 people could possibly eat!! Over the years we have used another local chain BBQ company that does ok. Back Forty BBQ Roseville was over the top!! They arrived here early, thoroughly prepared from table cloths, to a delivery cart with every last item we needed including toothpicks! Thank You Back Forty I will be back!

After spending a few days in Texas (boy, I wish I could get that time back) and trying 5 different ReCOMMENDED BBQ places, NONE compared to Back Forty ... it is the best around. Ive NEVER been unhappy with their fantastic chicken, ribs or brisket (is there anything else?). The sides are only OK ... but, I dont go there for the sides. Whenever Im leaving the area for a while, I make my last meal at Back Forty. I love that place!

Went twice - the first time the food was some of the best BBQ we have ever had. The chicken just fell off the bone and the okra was the real thing and as good as I used to have in Mississippi; we couldnt wait to go back. The next time was really disappointing, the chicken was so dry we couldnt eat it. We complained and sent it back. There was no offer for replacement, no offer for reimbursement just a bill that came next!
