Steve is a nice guy but was unable to figure out a pretty simple problem with my truck. I needed to get it smogged and the service engine light was on. He gave it a tune up, which I could have done myself but the engine light remained on. He said he did not know what to do except to keep replacing parts willy nilly. $530 to change spark plugs, wires 02 sensor and still unable to smog. The dealer found a vacuum leak and dinged me for another $800. I then took it to the Union 76 gas station to get it smogged and explained to the mechanic what had happened and he guessed from my description what the problem was. I was stunned. An intake manifold gasket. Right on top and a few bolts for a total of $1300 plus 59 for the smog. I was disappointed how inept Steve Auto was. Go to the gas station next time you want someone who knows what they are doing.

I am going to tell you why Steves Auto is the best auto service in this area. I have been going to Steve (Steves Auto Repair on Garnet in Pacific Beach) for many years. He is absolutely the most honest and reliable mechanic (auto service) that I have ever dealt with (70 years of age). I have referred my family and friends all of whom have likewise been going to Steve for years. Very good get the job done at very affordable rates. I usually take my car/s to get estimates from more than one mechanic and consistently find that Steve is the best price and once it is repaired in his shop the job is done (excellent superior repairs). Ron C. Ive been in the auto repair and auto parts business a good part of my life. Ive owned an auto repair business in Chicago and sold auto parts. Im getting older and am no longer in the repair or auto business. I still do some of my own repairs, but for the most part I had to find a reputable and fair auto mechanic to do the repairs I could no longer do myself. Ive lived a half a block from Steves auto repair for about 20 years and he is the only one I would trust with my car. He is honest, reliable and probably the fairest mechanic you will find in the San Diego area. I highly recommend him for any auto repair work you might need.

I have to say that Steve and his team saved our family vacation. We encountered an issue with our car on the last day in San Diego. Steve and his team quickly diagnosed the issue and fixed it the same day. Without Steve and his fantastic team my family would have been stranded out of state. Steve is the only person whos worked on my car since I bought it in 2007. I was convinced that something was wrong with my brakes, but he checked twice and told me that they were fine. When a mechanic tells a blonde girl that theres nothing wrong with her car, even when she thinks there is, (instead of charging her an arm and a leg for imaginary work) thats an honest mechanic! No fancy frills, just good honest service.

Steve is the man. Took my 02 subaru in to get an overheating problem diagnosed, turns out it was a cracked thermostat housing that was causing coolant to leak out. Steve couldnt get the part thar day so I hunted around and got it, he didnt charge me for any diagnosis, just had me tip his mechanic. Obviously a smart business man, cares more about repeat customers than getting money.

My little Honda wouldnt start, and I had it towed to Steves. They charged the battery, added coolant, and didnt even charge for it since there wasnt a big problem. I know if I ever have any problems Im going there, and Im sending all of my friends. Im so happy to find a good car mechanic here in PB that wont rip me off for a little problem :)

I moved to SD 15 years ago from Maryland with a crew of 15+ friends. We have been taking our cars to Steves the entire time. He is the best and cheapest mechanic I have ever encountered. Take your car any where else on Garnet and get ripped off if you like. 6 out of the 5 stars if 6 where available for this this review. Go to Steves!

I think it is always a funny experience to take the car here. I always leave laughing after I drop the car off. They always are super honest and lots of times I think I need things and they tell me I dont. I really trust these guys would even give them a blank check, which is weird to say about a mechanic.

Its kinda disheartening to drive into the lot to have one of the mechanics approach you and instantly tell you that the job to work on my truck is too big even though I called yesterday and today to make some time to have them at least take a look inside before the tell me the size and cost of the job.

When you drive by his shop , they have listed a smog check for $18 , when I brought in my vehicle they wanted to charge $30 and they were extremely rude. Very bad customer service from the beginning hence I would not trust these guys.

A co-worker recommended Steve to me. My dealings from start to (fast) finish, were nothing less than professional! Finding a good, professional mechanic who you can trust to be honest, isnt the easiest thing to do. Im sold on Steve.

Very reasonable prices here. Although I did have to go back multiple times to get something fixed but my car is old and complicated. Still though prices were very reasonable...
