One of my favorite things about this gym is that I hop on the N-Judah, go for a little ride and read a magazine, then Im at Montgomery station, I hop out, walk half a block, and theres the gym. No running thru traffic to get to gym in the Castro, no scary no-visibility parking garage with evil-sounding ticket payment machine that doesnt want to work sometime like Van Ness. Montgomery is easy to get to, its in a nice part of town with lots of activity, and the gym seems fairly new. The gym is 3 stories, but only the top floor seems to be the workout area. Whatever you do, dont take the elevator up, youre in a damn gym. The 3rd story is shaped like horseshoe, so once you reach the top of the stairs: go left to the weights and machines, go right to the cardio equipment. Theres not a lot of equipment here, but there seems to be just enough. I dont know if its because I normally go during off hours, but I havent had a problem once yet finding something to do. I read other people saying Van Ness was dirty. I didnt really see that but this gym did strike me as well-kept and clean more so than the other gyms Ive been to in the city. Of the 3 Ive been to (Castro, Van Ness, Montgomery), this one is my favorite and the one I frequent the most.

Joke. Looks like a bunch of SF 24 hour fitnesses switched from active to SuperSport overnight. After being rejected at the California Street location due to this quick switch, I called the Montgomery location to make sure that they were a Sport and I wouldnt be turned away at the door. The kid on the phone assured me that it was indeed a Sport, not a SuperSport. I walk all the way to this gym because of this assurance. Lo-and-behold, he tells me I cannot go in. The funniest thing was how he was explaining to me how this was a Sport gym and I needed to be grandfathered in to use the gym, even though I am a Sports member myself. He was actually trying to explain it to me to make me understand as if though my logic was faulty (Sport gym = Sport member). After 5 minutes of this painful conversation, one of their coworkers explained that it was INDEED a SuperSport (well, they do have towels now people. rejoice!). In short= terrible staff, terribly unaccommodating even when they are at a gross fault.

I really enjoy working out here. The girls that I always see working the front desk are friendly, and say bye to me before I leave. I know that its technically part of their job, but I used to work out at the 24 hr fitness in Daly City off of Gellert, and half the time there I would walk in and there wouldnt be anyone there even working at the front desk. I feel that the equipment at this location is kept quite clean aside from other reviews Ive seen about the gym on Van Ness. I like the fact that there are so many Precor (Elliptical) machines, and I there are plenty of dumbells to use. Ive never had an issue with having to wait for anything. This may also be due to the fact that I try to work out during non-rush hours. Sum it up... gym isnt really that big, but the facility is nice.. equipment is clean and fairly new... the employees are very nice... and you dont get all the "wannabe asian thugs" like you do at the Daly City location :)

Ive been a 24 hour fitness member since 09. I buy my memberships from Costco. They last two years. Usually when they expire, they let me know and I replace it by my next visit. My membership expired yesterday, and they wouldnt let me in. The front desk told me that Costco should have let me know. I think they should have told me in the days leading up to it. Since it was literally the day after it expired, they should have let me in.... Also, this location schedules a class on 1/3 of their treadmills from 5:30-6:30pm. It seems they have no problem displacing their members at the busiest time in order to squeeze out a few bucks from a small group of more affluent members. I wish they would not alienate their membership base so.

If it werent super convenient for a workout during lunch, I wouldnt have a membership here. Unfortunately tons of other people figured out that its a great place to spend your lunch break too. The sign on the locker room says it has a max occupancy of 8 but Ive seldom seen less than 20 people in there at a time. During the lunch rush you usually have to wait a few minutes just to get a free locker in there. Theres only 5 shower stalls so that also can lead to some waiting. The cardio machines are plentiful but the free weight area tends to be congested. The good news is that it only costs $30-40/month and aside from the first and last months fees, you dont have a contract thats tough to break.

Not bottom-of-the-barrel bad, but close enough. There are many problems with this gym, starting with the smell, the temperature, lack of good machines, crowded-ness, lack of good service, and overall uncleanliness. The gym does not allow you to open the windows, so it is always at a steamy atmospheric temperature where you can get maximum body odor smells when you breathe. There is usually mold in the locker rooms, dont worry though: They paint over the mold. You can always find at least one machine not working. You can also find the staff at the front desk not working as well. They love to ignore you when you come in so they can make small talk. This place: 3/10

The equipment quantity and quality, or lack thereof, is a serious problem. There are lines to use the benches, squat racks, free weights, and leg presses (often 3 or 4 people are waiting for the same equipment). I am giving this place one star because it wastes premium space in the Financial District on cardio equipment, ineffective machines that belong in a hospital for rehabilitation (very few machines are of the Hammer Strength plate-loaded style), and retail space, where you can buy protein drinks and clothing. The 24 Hour Fitness on Van Ness is much better.

This gym is mediocre on a good day, but I went tonight and they told me when I arrived that my 2 year membership expired yesterday and I would have to either sign up or pay $25 for a one day pass, even though I have received no notice that my pass was expiring. They also told me that this location had become a super sport, so it no longer works with a regular membership and will cost twice the regular amount. Ive been going to this 24 hour fitness for 10 years, but this had made me decide to take my business elsewhere.

The gym is smaller compared to other 24 Hour Fitness locations; however, it is centrally located in the Fidi and most convenient for me. For this reason, peek hours are very crowded and limited cardio machines. The cardio area is usually too warm (not sure why they cant crank up the AC!). The TVs are also set to the most boring channels. Not sure why they cant set the TVs to professional sports or something motivating. Also, the womens locker room has limited lockers so you have to wait to even use a locker.
