Had to quit my membership, as this gym is simply overpriced for what you receive in value. In short: - The gym is packed. Every hour is peak hour. Youre paying $220-$325/month to be nuts-to-buts with your fellow equinox gym go-ers regardless of time of day. - Speaking of fellow gym go-ers, this gym attracts the worst assholes and douchebags San Francisco has to offer. This is where your entitled, snotty-brat dot-com dude-bros and their clueless blonde females go to workout. You have to deal with that - and SF is full of these types of shitty people these days. They all concentrate at this location between 4pm - 8pm. - The gym is usually a place to workout. Unfortunately, management at this gym doesnt really want you to have a decent free-weights section. Its constantly PACKED and even during the most non-peak of non-peak hours, you still have to wait for a bench press, or just a plain flat bench. And when you get that bench (finally), youre butts-to-nuts. BTW, they fill the rest of the floor with...massage tables? Out in the open? Where, oh I dont know, FREE WEIGHTS can be located? Thats your priority for a gym? Ugh. - After reading that last point, I want you to go back and remember: this place is $220-$325/month. Yeah. - Multiple attempts to influence management here to increase the value of the space has resulted in corporate speak about how they value me, my input is important, blah blah blah. Corporate customer service speak. $10 says they copy and paste their usual Equinox Social Media Customer Care BS as a reply to this. So, I finally just had enough and quit my membership. Switched to StudioMix, which has most of the exact same instructors and nearly all the same amenities but without peak madness and a clear outreach to members for continual improvement of a shared, common active space. I miss Sports Club LA and the management from that time (Kirsten). She knew how to connect with the local community and run a gym right. These folks at Equinox Sports Club SF absolutely do not. I may reconsider my decision if the free weight area is addressed to my satisfaction and the management team is overhauled. I have serious doubts either of those outcomes is really going happen. So, bye Felicias.

TL;DR: If you can avoid peak bro-hour, youre onto a winner; albeit at a price. Expensive but excellent. That is to say, compared with the majority of gyms, Equinox is a diamond in the rough. Equinox SF is well equipped, and needs to be to accommodate bro hour 6-7pm Monday and Tuesday where tech-bros grunt their way through their slam-the-weights-down workouts. If youre unlucky enough to need peak workouts, prepare for bros, queues for showers and non-specific douchebaggery. If youre able to avoid peak hours however, nothing holds a candle to this Equinox. The staff are pleasant and attentive, locker rooms cleaned regularly and the whole operation is well run. The equipment is clean, modern and well maintained. The trainers appear friendly and discreet, though I havent used one. The range of machines, availability of squat racks and overall kit levels are excellent.

Beware!! The club has experienced significant problems over the past month or two!! Ive been a member for nearly a year and have really enjoyed it. Its a great space - great people - good equipment - not too crowded - etc. Its a VERY nice gym. Equinox recently assumed ownership and since the transfer we have experienced NUMEROUS problems - including a total loss of water (for showers etc) as well as a loss of hot water on more than one occasion. The gym is WAAAAY to expensive for members be dealing with these issues repeatedly and for extended duration. Perhaps these are just transition issues but if you are considering joining ... you should think twice and ask hard questions about how the gym will be maintained in the future. Not off to a good start!!

Cons: Used to enjoy working out with shoes off in order to work out my stabalizer muscles in my feet. They then implemented a new policy which requires shoes on at all times. I would expect such pedantic rules at 24 fitness. Managment here is very unfriendly and sometimes even hostile, horrible! Overpriced spa/massages ($150+ seriously?) Suprisingly few squat racks for such a big gym Very bad hours on weekends - opens too late Pros: Lots of open space. Underground bicycle parking. Earth bar has high quality healthy snacks that are resonably priced. Friendly and helpful check-in and locker room staff

Frustrated! I have been a member for 2 years and always talked very highly of Equinox! In fact, I have referred over 3 brand new members (1 at this location and 2 others at their Dallas location). Last weekend I had 3 friends visiting town and they wanted to get a gym session. I checked and I had 2 guest passes. I asked the front if it was possible to have my 3rd friend get to try the gym and check it out. The lady in the front wouldnt let him and made us buy a $50 day pass. Give me a break!!! I will not be referring anymore new clients their way. Not to mention they raised my rate an extra $50/month.

This sports club is amazing and well worth the high price. No comparison to 24 hour fitness, which I used to belong to. If you like a variety of workout classes offered at any time of the day and evening, this is the place for you. I go to the gym almost everyday now because Equinox makes it a fun experience that can be both vigorous and relaxing. Especially love the Cycle Beats and yoga classes offered here. The trainers are awesome. This gym is clean and doesnt even smell like sweat! Showers, steam room and sauna also make it feel like spa experience after your workout. Highly recommend!

Joined after our office relocated to SF. Its better than most gyms in downtown SF but honestly the standard in SF is very low. It is not worth $185+ The gym is very crowded during peak hours, many classes are full, antiquated locker locks are frequently broken, and rates that are 5x higher than I paid elsewhere are a major con. The machines are rarely broken but if they are then it takes ages for them to be repaired. I was also not able to get the promised free training session to an unresponsive trainer and did not bother to try scheduling the promised free Pilates session after that.

I used to love the club before Equinox took over. As others have said, membership sales focus has caused overcrowding. The need to stop selling new memberships until construction has been completed. This is an update, the overcrowding is getting worse than ever! I pay a super premium rate for ""executive locker room" and find nothing premium about the way complaints are treated> My locker room will be closed in May for construction and we have not seen any plan to maintain our amenities during the construction period. Waiting for a response...

I was a member here for several years until last month (November 2014) when I finally gave up on their transition to Equinox. This place used to have great equipment, friendly staff and impeccably clean facilities. During the transition to Equinox, the equipment has completely degraded, the staff seem miserable, the people brought in by Equinox act like thugs and the facilities are a mess. I had to bring black mold in the mens showers to the staffs attention multiple times. In its current state youre better off going to 24 Hour Fitness.
