At first glance, I wasnt certain that the school was the right place. Please dont let the outside appearance of the school drive you away. Pay attention to how the teachers interact with the kids -- they do so in a loving and attentive manner. The staff is experienced and have stayed at the center for many years -- a good sign in the world of day care. My twin sons have been attending Discovery Years for the past six months and they love their "school." They transitioned here after having a nanny -- no transition issues at all! Every morning when I drop them off, I know they will be well-cared for! Regarding cleanliness, neither son has been sick after six months there. I thought for sure switching from our house with a nanny to a mix of kids would mean colds, earaches, etc. Nope! The teachers do a good job keeping the toys clean and helping the boys wash hands. Also, both boys have speech therapy services from an outside therapist who visits their school once or twice a week. I asked her opinion on the center and she also ranked it highly, saying that the teachers lovingly handled students behavior. She didnt hear yelling, crying, or students hitting each other. She said that the teachers were working with students on developmentally appropriate activities! And, my daughter is now a student at Los Alamitos Elementary School. We utilized Discovery Years for her before and after school care (love having one drop off!!!). I highly recommend this school! Its a diamond in the rough!

We moved to San Jose about a year ago. We knew no one here and had no idea where we were going to put our 18 month old for daycare. We toured several of the commercial daycares, home daycares, smaller daycares and came across Discovery Years. Fortunately for us, it happened to be walking distance from our home. It is in a converted home setting and has been recently painted with lots of new toys and activities for kids. My husband and I have been extremely pleased with Discovery Years. Our daughter has learned so much and looks forward to going there every morning. The teachers are loving and supportive of the needs of each child. They have so many activities and play time with a big backyard. We would recommend this daycare to our friends. We also have been very happy with the management. The director is very involved with the children and interacts well with both parents and adults. She is considerate of other parents and easy to work with. When it comes time to drop off or pick up your child, you can visit as long as you like. She gently reminds you that other parents may be staying for less time and suggests that you move your car from the driveway. I appreciate that. Most importantly, she is AFFORDABLE even with her recent increase (after 3 years). Check it out and you will be pleased. One of the best daycares, excellent teachers, great director, good location and reasonable costs.

We are sending our child for about two years here. It is a big house converted into a school. Rooms are quite specious. Bathrooms are changed to little childrens height.Vary big back yard with plenty of space for children to play. Plenty of toys for all ages. Very clean and neat with special emphasis on hygiene. Our kid use to go other home based day care before coming here. She use to get sick quite often with diarrhea. In this school she hasnt got such problem through out last two years. Teachers are quite qualified for the job. My kid could not hold pen and draw straight line, when she came here. Now she can write all alphabets and numbers. She can read simple words and even short sentences at age 4 and 1/2. In summer they have plenty of activities such as water play, jumping house, make a pizza, bicycle play etc. Little kids have learned to share their toys. School supply milk and cookies to kids every day. My daughter enjoys this school. We are quite happy with our childs progress in this pre-school.

My two year old loves it at DY because of the sweet and warmhearted ladies who provide the care. They are incredibly patient, admirably dedicated, and provide a nurturing environment where the kids feel welcome and have so much fun they hardly notice how much theyre learning. That said, I agree that the place looks neglected and shabby from the listing sign to the broken yard awning and kid-sized hole in the fence from a missing slat. Good thing the staff is attentive and keeps kids and food clean. Everything else is kind of old, grimey, and semi-broken, which is strangely at odds with the director & her haughty attitude. As a non-millionaire family, she makes us feel every day how unwelcome we are in her "exclusive" establishment, wont let us pull into the driveway with our common car, treats us rudely, and begrudges my daughter every moment I paid for with my lower class money. She recently had the place painted (great!), followed by a 20% rate hike (yikes!) Overall: a mixed review.
