The Spa Studio has a very relaxing ambiance and I have been a regular client for over 5 years. The staff is very knowledgeable about the natural skincare products they use and sell; and have made great recommendations about products for my sensitive skin. One of my favorite packages is called "Make-Me-Over". It includes a massage, facial and a salt glow treatment; the salt glow treatment is given in a beautiful, blue tiled room with candles and soothing music. Once my eyes are shut, my worries disappear and I feel like I am relaxing on a tropical beach. Another treatment that I just discovered is called Siddha Body Detox. With the steam canopy and the detox treatment, I am able to detox, burn up to 600 calories in 1/2 and have soft, glowing skin after the treatment. The Spa Studio cares about the health and welfare of all their customers by using premium products and offering knowledgeable advise. Wendy, the owner of the spa, helps fight cancer by donating a portion of selected services to the Womens Breast Cancer Foundation and Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer Society. The Spa Studio is conveniently located in downtown San Mateo, and stays open until 8:30 during the weekdays. If you are looking to relax, unwind and get pampered.... Bottom line: Horrible policies and really does not care for new customers I had a great experience the first time at this spa and booked another appointment. Unfortunately in a serious of unfortunate events (phone lost, fire drill at work) the next appointment had slipped my mind. They called my within the 24 hour window and "left a message". Then called again after my appointment was due. I was going to be charge THE FULL AMOUNT of the facial $100+ for not showing up. After a prolong conversation, the associate then states that I would only have to pay $27.95 as a cancellation fee and "Because youre not like a long time customer, like youve been coming here for years, we can not give you an exception". I gave up and told the associate to just charge me and I am never returning to this dreaded spa, she then decides to give me an exception. Regardless of the wonderful experience I had the first time, this spa exercises some very shady practices. No email reminders, no actual confirmation of appointments, and threatening customers the FULL AMOUNT of their treatment. Thank you Spa Studio for this horrendous experience. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I always find a very welcoming, relaxing and calm atmosphere. I am encouraged to arrive early to have time to settle in and relax before I am lead to my treatment. Massages are skillfully performed following preferences from my file. For instance I do not like hot towels, so they cool them a bit before using them on me. I really appreciate all the little extras like a heating pad on my back, a special pillow for my head when I am on my back, headband and eye covers. Facials are great! This is the only place I never have to worry about product getting in my eyes. I am always told how to treat my skin at home, but never pushed to purchase products. Also great facial hair waxing and eyebrow design. Relax and enjoy. I cannot wait to return next month.

Getting a good massage or not depends on whom you book. During one massage, my eyes were closed but I felt something was touching my face and mouth. Later I found that it was a fly, a FLY on my face. The masseuse kept on working and did nothing to keep the fly away. The receptionist who answers the phone is laways rude, or busy with other things. The schedule is rigid and not cater to customers needs.

I had a gift card from this spa and my wallet was stolen, they have no way of tracking the gift card and were completely useless when I called them to try and stop it. I had used the gift card previously so they had a record of the number on the gift card but refused to be helpful!! Very frustrating! You are better off to just give CASH! As you can spend it anywhere!
