I took my son to get a haircut there. He already had a pretty cool haircut going on with this rocker Elvish rockabilly thing going on. Had some pretty sweet Sideburn action that I really wanted to keep. I told the guy that I only wanted it trimmed up and to keep the same hairstyle and he said sure okay. Instead he pretty much stopped on my little boys hair off and gave him a very stereotypical little boy haircut. He dropped all of his sideburns off and cut his front bangs very short. I decided to stay silent and let him do his work hoping that I could give him the benefit of the doubt and that the final product would turn out more to what I was looking for. Also I had been having to micromanage my five-year-old to get him to sit still so I didnt want to add hounding the hairstylist on top of it. But as soon as I left I could see that it was a choppy uneven job and it was done entirely way too short. The front bangs but she cut too short or so choppy. But theyre already so short that I cant really cut them to even them out. Feel like I wasted $15 but at least my kid had fun

This place is run by Jerome Fardette or pen name Jerome Arthur. A few years ago I walked in and asked if he was interested in volunteering a little of his time to give free haircuts to the homeless once a month. I was shocked on how angry he got. Jump ahead 2 years later when a homeless person asked me to take him there because his haircutting prices were so cheap. My friend said he spoke to Jerome several weeks before and gave him a price. So I took him there and Jerome refused to give him a haircut. There was only one person in there and was almost finished cutting his hair. My homeless friend was so disappointed and desperately wanted to get cleaned up. Please go elsewhere! This man uses a pen name to write anti-homeless letters to the editor along with his wife, Janet Fardette.

Gary at Thrifty Cuts is the best old school barber shop on the West Coast. I went to UCSC in 2000 and have been getting my haircut here since. For the last 5 years, Ive been driving down to Santa Cruz from San Francisco, just to get my hair cut here.

Worst haircut Ive ever gotten. I show them a picture of what Im looking for, from the last time it was cut because Im not great at describing things, and they manage to give me essentially a bowl cut that would have been done better by a child

The cut was ok, not exactly what I wanted, but thats ok it turned out managable... But the barber was obviously on drugs, he had crusty lips, anyways ill never go back.
