I tried Burn Fitness out because its very close to where I stay and work. They gave me a free day to try it out, didnt hassle me about joining and let me do my workout without interference. The facility is nice and clean, the equipment feels new and taken care of, the fellow gym-goers are nice and willing to share. Also the nice balcony/rooftop overlooking the third street promenade is pretty cool, except when the smell of the deep fried foods of the promenade waft into the place - torture for the weak-willed. There are a few things that could use improvement though. Like most places I have tried in Santa Monica, squat racks seem to be as scarce as the fresh water supply (too soon?). Theres only one barbell lifting cage, and lets just say it can see quite a lot of traffic at certain times of the day and can definitely slow down your workout. Too many unused machines that could be replaced with more useful squat racks and lifting cages. Ive also noticed that some of the staff can be a little distracted at times. Overall its a nice gym to achieve gains, but could really benefit from some more traditional weightlifting equipment to save its patrons time. Do recommend, unless youre going to use my squat rack ;)

This is one of the worst gyms I have ever been to. Heres why: 1- The Heat - There are no ceiling fans and so the place is always hot and humid. They have one open balcony but no wind gets in because there are no other windows. No cross circulation. It gets so hot in there Ive felt like I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion. 2- The Employees - They have the most unfriendly employees Ive seen in a gym. Never a smile, never a hello. Theres a blonde haired guy with short hair, a big egghead, and slouching forehead who works in the morning usually. Hes completely aloof and ignores people swiping in. On top of that, there are two women working there who just look miserable all the time. They dont even know how to properly open the outside door from the back. 3- The Machines - There is about one machine for any given body movement. Then again, there isnt much room anyway. You find yourself breathing on top of people who are working out inches from you. There isnt even enough room to stretch.

Ive seen quite a few health clubs in my day. Most, I have to admit, get the job done. Im not that picky..... as long as I can get in and get out with a decent workout, Im happy. However, Burn Fitness delivers that and more! Not only did I get a great workout on some of the most modern and well kept equipment Ive ever seen, but the place was over the top clean (the hardwood floors throughout the place sparkle), the staff was helpful and very friendly, I checked my email, took a long steam and left with a smile on my face. Seriously, if youre looking for a health club with all the amenities, classes, views of the ocean and the entire city, fresh air...... should i go on.... you have to try this place. Oh yeah, it was my first time there and not once did I get hassled about joining. I got a first class and quick tour, a new member packet (very cool), and was told to have a good workout at no charge. I will be going back to join!

Ive been a member of a fair number of fitness clubs in LA, and I was looking forward to joining this one, as its location was perfect for my job. However, I must say that after my first day there, I wished I had NEVER joined!! Not only were all the machines occupied, but the staff and trainers were exceedingly rude and arrogant and the bathroom was disgusting. When I asked for my money back, the manager flat out refused, and Ive given up at this point. Though it might look inviting, take my advice and STAY AWAY from this place.

Love Burn - friendly staff and the members are chill. Check out the (obviously outdoor) roof too. Owner always willing to talk. PS reviews from 5 years ago are from BEFORE current management. Guarantee the current manager is friendly and the gym is not overcrowded at all. They totally remodeled when they took over. Best kept secret in Santa Monica.

Big fan of this gym. Never super busy on times I go (~7am, sometimes 7pm weekdays) and most of staff very friendly. Good amount of classes and machines. Rooftop is cool too. Got a great deal for paying membership fees for year up front. Wont find a better value gym in Santa Monica area.

Clean. Spacious. Good classes. Good service. Nice fresh smelling towels. Great exercise equipments. Lots of lockers in bathroom. Does not stink. I enjoy the fresh air, and nice view at the balcony after working out as I catch my breath and let my temperature go back to normal.

Best. Gym. Ever. Shredded is my favorite class hands down. I would recommend it if you are looking for a low cardio but heavy on weights work out. Tabatta and TRX are pretty great too. I would love to try Insanity®- wish it was on any other day but Tuesday!
