- Shady contracting and billing practices - Lack of cleanliness - Poor equipment variety, older models - Equipment in ill repair - Poor customer service I will reiterate the assessments from previous reviews about the lack of cleanliness. Its disgusting, actually. From their dirty equipment, poorly stocked hand sanitizer and towels, to the dirty locker room, showers, and sauna. And the poor air circulation is a killer, especially on crowded days (or hot days or rainy days) when you can smell everyones collective B.O. And they have (roof?) leaks, too, when it rains. Their equipment is also invariably in ill repair. Im a cyclist and rower, so I prefer a better variety of cardio equipment besides your standard treadmill and elliptical. No luck here. I thought I would be open minded and adapt, but their stationary cycles - not spinning cycles - are about 20 years old. And they have no rowing machines. I would forgo a TV on a treadmill any day, if it meant more modern, varied, and functioning equipment. The staff is a mix. You have one personal trainer who looks like he just rolled out of bed (5 oclock shadow, unkempt hair) and is not in the best of shape. Yet there is one trainer, Rich, who seems to know his stuff and is friendly and professional. The staff behind the desk: well, you have a couple people, especially during the weekend, who are friendly and helpful, then you have these guys who are real ass*%&$s. One of them cant be bothered to look up, even when he is the only staff member behind the desk, and when he does acknowledge a members presence, he doesnt even make eye contact. I think he may even be a manager. Then comes the business with contracts. I signed up for a six month contract and three months later was still being automatically debited for the monthly charge. Upon calling them, I was informed about some supposed automatic transfer to a yearly contract. Then the guy on the phone came up with some idiotic analogy to leasing a house and how a landlord does not kick out a tenant at the end of a lease term, but rather turns the contract into a monthly rental. I wonder if this is part of their training. Service does not equal tenancy, buddy. Perhaps, they should venture into a contract law class. Ah, yes: he also instructed me to come in during a weekday, between 9 and 5. Not the most convenient of times for most people. So now the burden lies on me to extract myself from their misleading, if not fraudulent, agreement. Im going to go in, so I still dont know the conclusion to this saga. Well see what happens. I joined this gym, as others have mentioned, because of it being the only gym in close proximity to Sylmar and surrounding neighborhoods. My decision was a mistake, apparently. I suggest - to any potential new members - that you force yourselves to make the drive to one of the gyms that is a little farther out, but may offer better service.

If there was a worse rate then one star I would, these people only care about money!!! They dont care about their customers at all. I have been a member since it was first up and I never thought it would be this bad. Yes the gym itself is nice, it has everything you would like to use inside, like the sauna and the pool, but its not worth the amount of money you have to pay. They keep charging for extra things, like yearly fees and they dont mention at all then your signing up that your payments may increase yearly or however they please. I mean if its not one thing, its another with these people. they even messed up my credit. I tried to talk to the manager about this her name is Melissa and she said she couldnt find anything on their computer to see why it was showing up on my credit report since i paid everything and make monthly payments, I was like, seriously?!!?!? so you cant help me, and she couldnt direct me to anyone who could. This month again they screwed me over with charging me 10 dollars more than they usually do so i called and the guy was like you need to talk to Melissa AGAIN and she can help you. Ok so can you give me her number so i can reach her? No. Can you tell me when she will be in the office so i can swing by? No. Ok... so can I leave a my number so she can call me back. Yeah i can leave a note.... knowing damn well last time i did that she never called me back anyways. damn If i my mom didnt need to go for health reasons i wouldnt deal with their crap but thats the closest gym to my house and she doesnt drive. My membership is over with them and i will never recommend any of my friends or family to go there. thats not even half of what i really want to say but just giving examples of to those who are thinking of going here...

I have been a member for a while now, and when I first started going this place was awesome. Now, not so much. This gym has let itself get run down and as far as I can tell, is doing nothing to maintain it. The buttons on the elliptical machines never work. You cant adjust the intensity of your jog, or you can only put the intensity down not up, or vice versa. The steam room in the mens room hasnt worked in 2 months, and half the weight machines in the weight room are missing the stick to select how heavy your weights will be. I can understand if most of these just recently went down, but Ive been telling the front desk about the elliptcals, weights, and steam room for weeks now. They never take down my name or ask me to fill anything out. Finally today I called hoping to get a supervisor but I only got the staff at the front desk who said these complaints would be forwarded to corporate so that repairs could be submitted. Which Im guessing means I have a better chance of getting to the moon than seeing anything actually get fixed. My neighborhood is notorious for running down businesses. Theres only one in the area that still looks decent and its a Starbucks. Its really a shame because the gym was a great place to go and workout and escape for a while. Now its just beat down. The people who operate the front desk are friendly enough, and the people selling memberships are all smiles. But everyone else looks like they want to do die. Nothing better than going to locker room and seeing the down-trodden facility staff roll their eyes at you because you had the temerity to walk on their freshly vacuumed carpeting. This was a great gym, and it still could be. But they need to focus on getting just about everything repaired.
