This is clearly one of the best health clubs in LA...that said..its ridiculous. $200 + for a gym membership and rising every year....people need to find better ways to use their money. Perhaps run outside at the beach that is LITERALLY 2 blocks away, do some pull ups at the beach, pay me $100/mo to help you stay focused, get a blanket then go to the grass on the beach bluff to do some yoga, or ride your bike along the ocean. It barely rains in Los Angeles and the weather is some of the best weather in the world for doing things outside. If you still need a gym, 24 hour fitness is just down the street. Then take that $180/mo you have left over and buy a meal for a kid in the foster care program of los angeles. There isnt even a basketball gym at this gym. They offer a wide variety of dance/yoga/pilates classes here..so if you are using those EVERYDAY then its worth it...but if you are paying $200+ for a gym and not taking a class everyday youre doing something wrong. That said...this place is packed so I probably dont know what Im talking about.

First, THE GOOD: Very hard working cleaning staff, they keep the gym very clean. Nice people at front desk. Modern equipment. Great steam room. Nice juice bar. THE BAD: Had several thefts (ipod, aluminum water bottle, locks, headset) Parking is ridiculous and very crowded. No swimming pool. Price just got hiked to $144/mo. In this economy its shocking to set a price hike. The mens locker room is way too small and poorly laid out as if it were built for tiny Japanese men. Hard to maneuver in there and thats a complaint I hear from many people. A friend of mine just quit the club because of that. Not near enough space to stretch. Mats are always full as is much of the gym for people who use Trainers. ALL IN ALL: If you are more into paying extra for a Trainer, like group activities, money is not an object, nor need a swimming pool, then you might like it. Otherwise I suggest cheaper gyms with similar amenities.

The gym is nice, but the upper-level management is dishonest and unprofessional. After cancelling my membership, Equinox continued to withdraw monthly dues from my bank account without my authorization. After alerting the upper-level management to the problem, I expected that they would immediately refund the money because of their mistake. Not only did they fail to reimburse the wrongfully withdrawn funds, but they continued to attempt to make withdrawals from my bank account. I have had to file a lawsuit because of this fiasco. Avoid the inconvenience and the hassle and go to another gym; I am sure you can find a better, more reputable, gym in the area.

I tried this gym out last night since they were having a promo (initiation fee of only $17) and was not impressed. they gym was super crowded, there werent enough machines, it was super hot and muggy, and the equipment wasnt as nice as i was expecting. no lap pool, no basketball courts. also, there was no space to do floor exercises/matt area, and def no female friendly free weights (limited low weights and no soft handle-grips) - you even had to wait for a bench! worst of all was how there werent tvs on the machines...you have to watch one of 5 TVs ceiling mounted set to stations like ESPN, fox news and CNN. for $140 a month, i expected a lot more.

I joined in November 2012 and Im really happy with the gym. The towels, facilities... and all the stuff you read in other reviews. I would have just a couple suggestions. As an avid cyclist Id like to see more cycle classes on the schedule. My other wish is that the cycle instructors would lay out what the class will be like. Is it a climbing ride, sprints, race day, combination of all? And when are recoveries? For people training for something, this would help with regard to pacing. Not a big deal but would be nice to know the plan. The staff is all nice and accommodating. Also I am very disappointed that there is no pool ;)

Now the club is overcrowded and has lost its exclusive feel. Doors used to open to outdoor patio by cardio equipment to get fresh air. Door openers have been disabled so same recycled moist air as other gyms. Mens sauna is filled with wet towels. Attendant does not bother to come in and pick up. Parking situation is terrible during peak hours. There should be free valet - just a suggestion. The hours are very limited in the evening. The club closes at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 8 p.m on weekends - not good for us night owls.

Been an Equinox member for 10+ years and not quitting anytime soon. The SM location is as nice as the others with an ocean view exercise patio too. Probably why this is one of their most crowded locations. Im a morning person so its pretty manageable earlier than after work. All the instructors are awesome and will get you through the tough classes with a smile on your face.

Nice Gym and Clean. way too crowded. Mens locker room is way too small. the only problem with avoiding rush hour is that many do, so its always pretty much packed except for an hour before closing. parking can be really annoying and close to impossible during weekdays between 5 and 8pm. Looking to transfer my membership to another facility.

Equinox Santa Monica is a hidden gem! I love to exercise and this place is quite the workout. 30 minutes of intense training once a week and I feel stronger than I ever have. Ann and Sheila are amazing trainers and the vibe in this place is positive, encouraging, and very low key.

I used to visit the Equinox in WeHo & switched to the one in Santa Monica. Nice & day difference. The Santa Monica is still nice, but a bit disappointing & not as upscale as what Ive seen in other locations.

I love this gym. My trainer Sam is knowledgeable and motivating. The front check in staff are always so friendly. The place is extremely clean and at 5am its so quiet it is like my private gym!

This is my gym. I also go to other Equinox locations, depending on the day. High-end equipment, friendly staff, and a VIP feel. The teachers are fitness innovators. Worth the money.

Expensive place but worth the price of admission. Would like to see them with friendly staff though. Bathrooms are squeaky clean

Really nice gym in a good location. Split up a little in layout but they did the best they could with the space they had.
