I agree with many of the other reviews when I say THEY ARE CROOKS! My Chevy blazer had overheated (to the point of engine shut down, due to a bad water pump) on my way home from Reno, going back in to Truckee. The tow truck driver told me my insurance gave me the choice of having it towed to the Auto Doctor for free, or pay $10 a mile to have it towed back to my home in Truckee...I had no other option but to have them bring it in to the Auto Doctor. Never having been there before I felt somewhat comfortable..BIG MISTAKE! The next day I gave them the consent to run a check and see what the problem was. Being that it over heated I thought it was a blown head gasket. The next day they ran through a list of things that needed to be replaced in order for the car to be running smoothly, claiming my head gasket was not the problem...they did this about 2 more times throughout the week, adding more and more things to the list. After not having my car for a week or 2, they called me a final time to tell me the engine is still rumbling (running very rough) and that if they did a final tune up (costing me another $600) the car would be ready to go. I was able to bargain them down to $400 for the tune up, but even that still seemed absurd. I had no other choice cause that was my only car and i needed it in good condition for the upcoming winter, so i gave them the o.k. to put the finishing touches on it. I returned to the shop to pick up my car (costing me about $800 in parts and $800 in labor) and when i got there, cash in hand, the man working there told me that the car was still running rough, and that they did a compression test, and it showed that it had low compression in 2 of my cylinders. Meaning i had 2 burnt valves. I asked how much this would cost and they said around roughly $2,000.00 more . I said no thank you, paid them their money, and took my car. I cannot believe that after all that money spent (probably on many parts that didnt need replacing) that I still was going home with a broken car! I mean seriously, the car was brought in for extreme over-heating, and the LAST thing they did was the compression test!!!! I barely know cars, and even i know thats complete bull. Compression testing would be one of the first things you check when dealing with heat issues. Those guys robbed me for more than $1,500!!!!!!! I still till this day have not been able to come up with the money to fix the burnt valves, and being that my registration and smog/emissions test is up, i must get it fixed in order to pass and be able to re-register my car. What a headache!!! I would not recommend this place unless you want to be royally screwed. You guys have lost my business, and the business of many people close to me.

Crooks and Inconsiderate! I have gone to the auto doctor before, left feeling a little taken advantage of. Today was the final straw and my last visit. I made an appointment for what should have been a 15 min oil change, to get there and be told it would take an hour after i already signed everything. I wanted to leave but they already had my keys, so i waited. Not a word spoken to me for an hour, i turned around and there was my truck. Who knows how long it was there, and when i asked if it just finished the guy at the counter gave me attitude and said I dont know, im working on multiple cars. That left me irritated, but the final straw was when he said your car needs no additional service, this after hearing them try to tell me my shocks were bad the last time i came in. They said it would cost 900 dollars to fix. I later showed my friend who was a mechanic about this and he checked and they were just fine. And this time around the Auto Doctors didnt feel like trying to scam me so they told me they were good too. On a separate occasion I had some bad wear on my tires, and was told by them they were ruined and wouldnt correct themselves with a rotation. Trying to get me to get new tires. I didnt think it was that bad, sure enough i rotated them and within a few thousand miles the cupping was gone. I came in once before got no work done, just someone to check my alignment and that cost 90 dollars. Les Schwab does that for free, and from what i understan most other shops. So today was when i finally got fed up and want to warn you guys about them. Stay away.

I have been taking my vehicles to The Auto Doctor for 20 years and have had supreme service with every visit! John is the personality behind this bussiness and he always treats me like I was part of his family. They are very proffessional and trustworthy. I would go know where else. I have 4 trucks starting at a1995 dodge diesal to a 2012 toyota and he has technicians that can handle them all. The Auto and Tire Doctor are complete professionals. It seems most auto repair shops get a bad rap. Customers thinking they have been ripped off, charged for repairs that were not needed, labor rates to high. These technicians are ASE certified and are highly trained in thier field to do some thing we obviously cant do. At the Auto Doctor , I have found when they diagnose my vehicle they have my best interest at heart and are looking to make my vehicle run at its optimal best. It is always my final say up to the repairs I have them complete and when. They never force anything on me. So I just hate to see people on here making senseless remarks about a shop that has been in business for over 30 years that has never treated me poorly. John Lamoreux and your crew you ROCK! Thank you Fred and Jani Ahlvers

I took my vehicle to this place to have my studded snow tires mounted, since I purchased them there. Later that afternoon, I received a call from the owner (John) telling me that I really needed to replace my front brakes. I told him I had just had my brakes inspected 4 weeks earlier, and my regular mechanic told me I still had 25%-35% pad left, but told him to go ahead and change them since the car was already at the shop. My bill was $623. This "RIP-OFF" shop put front loaded calipers and rotors on my car without my knowledge, or permission. As of today, the owner (John) has offered me $250 credit, but this is unsatisfactory considering the work was never requested, nor authorized. I fully intend to pursue legal action against them, and will also file complaints with any applicable consumer reporting agency in an attempt to get the word out. This guy even tried to lie and tell me after the fact that he had informed me what work needed to be done. This was AFTER Bob had already called to offer me $200 credit for unauthorized work on the car. Do NOT take a vehicle to them! You will be treated in a similar manner, then threatened with their little "scare tactics", and left feeling COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF!
