During a phone conversation one sales person said hed give me a free 3 day gym pass so i could "try it out for a few days." Well when I went to pick it up the story changed - a salesnut went to the back office acting as if he was going to grab the pass from the will call as I was told he would, but to my surprise he came back WITHOUT THE PASSES but said he knew about me (hmm.. maybe thats because the guy that promised me the pass was sitting in the back office - i could see him through the window!) . He then asked if i was interested in joining - i said "yes." well he proceeded to give me a tour and then long story short told me that id have to pay a $150 enrollment fee to get the 3 day pass IF I CHOSE not to join that day (i wanted a few days to think about it and use the 3 day pass to try out one of their classes, before joining). Free pass offer was a total SCAM!!! Also, the first guy i spoke to quoted me a price with no contract and month-to-month; but the salesnut that gave me the tour said it was a one year commitment (CONTRACT) @ 500+ OR if i go month to month, theyd tack on another 5 bucks extra per month! They probably are cheaper than other gyms - but to me, customer service is #1...geesh....Petsmart people are friendlier then these folks! Overall they are SO SHADY - i decided to go elsewhere. (p.s., these folks didnt bother greeting me when I walked in - i had to interrupt their conversation to get their attention - they are definitely rude and some look like tweakers). STAY AWAY!!!!

Just today I have filed a major harrassment lawsuit in progress as of this writing. First time for me EVER doing such a thing. I continue to get calls from ABC collections (this morning was the last one of 2-3 a week) when IN FACT, I canceled a few months ago, and when I signed my contract, it STATES VERY CLEARLY that I paid $48. Twenty four dollars towards first month membership, and when I cancel, the last month (they say its FREE) when in actuality, I frickin paid for it. ABC tells me it will go against my credit. Well, I put a stop to that immediately. Ive contacted BBC regarding their practices as well. I found out that Im not the first complaint. Hey, has anyone met Amy? Talk about an idiot without a brain. I mean really Amy, I can understand your major attitude if you had something to flaunt. Hell, short, stubby, chunky (obvsiously doesnt use the equiptment there) and pudgy is not call for having your chitty attitude and ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE experience. Any good reviews regarding this place is certainly done by the staff. Maybe this is one thing Amy is good at? BBC would truly love to hear from all of you. Its about time we put this type of business out of commission and to rest.

This place is over-crowded--especially since they closed the Walker Street gym--dirty, and parking is a nightmare. And they lie. I initiated a change of account for the automatic debiting of the monthly fee and was told at the time--I asked the silly girl at the desk this specific question--that the change would be effective immediately. It wasnt, and I was dinged with a $19.50 fee when they tried to debit the old account. I called and they said that they were "very sorry, but they could not refund the fee." I told them I was canceling my membership, and they basically said, "Fine". OK, so they get to keep the $20 fee---and lose upwards of $300 a year? Interesting way to run a business. Even the credit card companies---who we all know are REALLY only in it for the money--will rescind fees for their customers. But not Mavericks. These folks take the only in it for the money idea to new heights--or depths. Stay away--this place is just not worth the aggro. Better to spend your money at a place run by people who appreciate their customers.

Ive always liked it here since joining in early 2009. Young crowd, loud music, which I prefer. Parking is my biggest frustration, but I go at the most crowded time too, like 6:30pm so thats to be expected. Worst case scenario is I park at Fresh and Easy. Not nearly as bad as the 24 Hr in Oxnard I go to sometimes, which can be a nightmare. The equipment is fine. None of the machines are all that new, but function. The treadmills however, are awesome, with built in Ipod docks and touch screen monitors and cable tv wired into them. For those of you who are mad about the billing and cancellation issues, understand that this is an issue at pretty much every gym. I recommend paying for your membership upfront. Its about $30 month when you pay for 12 months, and then they add on 4 months for free (at least they did when I joined and when I renewed). So when it runs out they shouldnt have a way to bill it. Always found the staff to be friendly.

I severely injured my back in June of 2013 and because of that, I had to cut back on going to the gym and now I have stopped altogether. They would not refund the money I paid in advance for my personal trainer; instead we agreed to put it towards my membership fees even if I was not going to be going to the gym. Well now they want $19.95 for their yearly "service fee" and they have put some dumb ass collection agency on my tail to collect it. I have been getting harassing phone calls and letters from these trained morons daily Well I wont pay the fee no matter how little. I figure they have hundreds of dollars in membership fees for services that I did not use and that should be enough for them. I have contacted the VC Attorney Generals office about this. If anyone else is going through this, let me know; we can launch a class action suit.

Mavericks works for me. It gets pretty crowded and parking can be a pain, but Ive never really had any issues. No matter how crowded it gets, I am always able to get a bench, get the dumb bells I need, get on a treadmill, and able to get on a machine. If youre creative and flexible, youll be able to get a full workout no matter how crowded it gets. Staff is really nice and the price is competitive. I actually left LA Fitness for Mavericks and Im glad I did.

I have been a member for several years and the staff has been great. This gym is the most affordable compared to other gyms in the area. Also it is one of the most spacious gyms I have worked out at and has more equipment than any other I have joined. It is interesting to see that most of the low ratings have to do with Discovery Dinning coupons and personal trainers complaints and largely overlook the facility itself.

Mavericks has excellent classes. The Les Mills Body Pump Class is killer! It is such a good class. It has totally changed my definition. The gym equipment is so-so but Id say it is just about the same as all the other gyms in town. The only thing they dont have is a pool. The staff is friendly. The staff that teaches the classes is the best! Overall- Id say its a pretty decent gym.
