If it were possible to leave a negative star review for this place, that is what I would do. Its amazing how a place that was supposedly started to help people in their time of grief, could treat people so disrespectfully. Every family has different dynamics and these people listened to one side and then proceeded to treat the children of the deceased very reprehensibly. An open mind must be kept (since you only know a part of what may be going on) and everyone treated with kindness. That is NOT what we experienced at Malesich and Shirey. We found Karen to be rude. From apparently not liking the familys request to have the casket open at the end, to nastily hurrying us at the end. When we got to the graveside, (out of state) it was just a hole in the ground. No chairs, no awning, and their straps were not even long enough to let the casket down into the grave. A family member had to go home and get rope in order to place the casket in the grave. When one of the children of the deceased left a strong message for the funeral home on their website, instead of contacting them to try to find out what they could do, they apparently contacted the other family member and heard more "stuff". Well, what do you know! There appeared glowing reviews online about them. Some written by people who were not there but out of state! Hmmmmm....... When one of the siblings stopped in the next day to get a copy of the death certificate, again, they were responded rudely to by Karen. Then one of the owners came out and proceeded to castigate her. He told her that working with our family had been like stepping in "dogs***." (A very professional response. NOT!) He slammed the door leaving her and him in the room alone, so she reached over and opened it because she didnt want to be left in the room alone with him. She told him she was not leaving without getting what she needed, so they called the police and had her escorted off the premises for trespassing! So, I assume (by looking at their reply to someone else who did not nave a good experience) that you may read some snarky reply back to this. (Again, very professional. NOT!) So you be the judge, but I would not ever recommend this company. As far as I am concerned, they need to find another business, because they clearly have trouble acting compassionately and professionally at times.

No doubt one of the challenges of operating a funeral home is dealing with family conflict but these situations should be handled professionally without taking sides. This was not the case with my Dads passing last month. Our experience with Malesich & Shirey was nothing short of pathetic and began with my Dads oportunistic wife of 2 1/2 years manipulating all the arrangements, making us (his 4 grown children) to feel like outsiders. Malesich and Shirey picked up that same attitude, treating us with disrespect throughout the experience. The most hurtful was the day of the burial. There was no awning, no chairs and believe it not, no way of lowering my Dads casket into the grave. My cousin had to go home and get rope. How unprofessional can it get? How disrespectful to my Dad! We made the request twice, by phone and email, for my late Mother to be added to the obituary. My parents were married 46 years before she died, leaving 4 children from that union. Nothing was added so my mother was never mentioned ... only the new wife. This company should not be trusted with your loved ones, regardless of previous positive reviews. Especially the fraudulent reviews of Paul Perkins and Madeline Ruffner who were not even at the funeral, but claiming they witnessed an event that never happened. There is even a review from my Dad (LaVerne White) who is the deceased. Worst experience ever! Julie Nickerson (Oldest Daughter of LaVerne White)

I have had no connection to the people that work there except for the driver that was driving the hearse to our town. My husbands Uncle Vern White was brought here to Goodland to be buried. This where most of the family has been buried. When we got to the Cemetery all we saw was a 6ft hole in the ground. There was no awning or any way that we could put Uncle Vern in the ground. I have been to many funerals and I had never seen anything like this in my entire life. Plus to top it off the man who drove the hearse asked my husband for some type of rope which would help get the casket in the grave. With out the deal that is usually done and the way that is was put in the grave you know that the body had been moved around in there. To me this was very unprofessional for this type of business to operate. Also there were no chairs for people to sit on not even brought any folding chairs. That would have been great to even have them.
