Up to one day ago I would have given Planet Fitness in Middletown, DE a 5 star rating until our encounter with the Manager on 12/31/16! Ive only been a member for a short time and have found the staff to be extremely friendly, helpful & encouraging. Based on my interactions, I recommended that my husband join and we have been coming together to workout 4-6 times a week. Each time we come my husband brings a towel & water jug to hydrate. Never has he been told by any staff member that both items were against the rules. Yesterday in the middle of my husbands intense workout on the elliptical, the manager rudely interrupts him in front of me & other club members pointing to a piece of paper containing policies & procedures. To add further insult after this public embarrassment, she takes it upon herself to remove his water depriving him of hydration even after I asked her politely to wait until he finished his workout. Anyone that knows an ounce about health & fitness knows that you cant come to an immediate & sudden stop during a high intensity workout especially when there are underlying health issues. Once he finished his workout, he went right to the front desk where she continued to chastise him in front of other staff & club members for not knowing the policy. My husband & I have more than 40 years combined experience as Administrators & recognize & value the importance of compliance to policies & procedures. This manager could take some pointers from her own staff on basic customer service delivery as well as professional & appropriate communication techniques. As a newly opened business in Middletown, this manager is a detriment to the Planet Fitness brand and her behaviors are inconsistent with the business strategies that initially attracted us to join. She is in desperate need of retraining, site reassignment or better yet, termination of employment!

I have been trying to find a way to get in contact with the owner privately but havent found the option online. The staff is very friendly and the facility is clean and nice. However, there have been many young kids working out, looking as though they are under 13. The scale in the womens locker room is 20 pounds off. I was there working out late one night from 9:30 til 11:00. At the end of my workout I went to sign up for the hydro massage (which is fabulous btw) however when I walked past an employee the smell of marijuana radiated off of him as well as other employee who were hanging out but maybe not on the clock, Ive seen them working during the day, and as I walked back to the hydromassage and passed one of the tanning rooms the whole place smelled fresh of marijuana. Employees being high is one thing (still not acceptable) but employees "hot boxing" the gym late at night because they dont think anyone will care is absolutely absurd. I was completely disgusted and annoyed. I hope this wont happen again and that the owner is around more checking on his employees especially late at night.

I cant believe I have to write a review about this in 2017. I have been going to Planet Fitness for a while, lost some weight, and I feel absolutely great and confident about my body. I go workout in attire intended for working out. I was wearing a tank top, a sports bra, and leggings, and was scolded by a woman named Maurie/Maury and was told I wasnt allowed to wear that attire there because it looked like a bathing suit and to never wear that again "this is planet fitness". A bathing suit and a sports bra have one main function, to cover your unasked for womans breasts. Someone who lost weight and is gaining muscle in this gym should never have to feel ashamed, embarrassed in front of other members, and uncomfortable in an apparent "judgement free zone." However, all I felt was judged and horrified that a woman could patronize another woman for feeling comfortable and confident in clothes that were made for working out.

Like many people every year, I set myself the goal of going to the gym. About one week into it I wanted to quit. I had no idea what I was doing, I felt in the way, so I wanted to quit. During another horrible workout, I was lucky enough to be there at the same time Darren, a personal trainer, was training on his own time. He gave me pointers and helped me with my form, not once trying to get me to hire him. I immediatly felt so much better! The small stuff he thought me made me want to.hire him! So i did! Im still not at my best shape but with Darrens help, Ive managed to stick to my goal and Im on my way to a much healthier and happier life! Thanks man!!

I love this gym. The only problem I have is when I scheduled an appointment with Darren, I asked for 30 minutes. The day of my appointment we sit down and hes working on my workout plan only to have it interrupted saying his next one was there. They scheduled another appointment in my 30 min spot. 15 minutes is not enough time for a workout plan and a quick walk through. I had to reschedule for the following week to finish. It really bothered me. So much so that I didnt even want to workout that day, the irritation was real. 15 minutes is not enough time for a workout consultation. The other trainers get 30 minutes, not Darren? Get it together!!!!

One employee is rude and would rather stare at you then put her phone down and walk over to help you or explain that there are waiting lists for the black card amenities. On the second day they were open, I brought my husband as a guest and we were both permitted to use the aqua massage beds. We go back another time and are told by the same young lady that helped us the first time that he cant use the bed because he doesnt have his own black card. I understand that one employee doesnt make up for everyone, but employees follow other employees. My husband and I are hesitant to go back.

The Manager at this facility was very rude towards me! Very rascist! I walked in and scanned my badge and she followed me all the way to the bathroom and told me that my picture did not look like me! She then asked personal questions like my date of birth in front of other customers in the bathroom!! I told her how unprofessional she is and we ended up going back and forth! Overall the gym is very nice and clean I loved this gym up until I was racially profiled because I look different!!! I feel very uncomfortable going back!! Im actually canceling my membership!

I have been coming to planet fitness for a couple of months and have enjoyed the experience. I took advantage of the free fitness instructions giving by the trainers on staff. I was assigned to Darren who from day one has helped me established a great workout plan and has worked with me to achieved my goals. Darren is a true professional who knows his craft and has the experience & credentials to back up it up. Because of what I learned working with him I have more confidence in my fitness abilities. Good job Darren!

My experience at Plant Fitness has always been positive and fun! The gym is well kept and clean! The top personal trainer Darren, has to be the best trainer ive ever had. He knows what hes talking about when explaining the exercises he has you do. He makes it easy to learn and makes working out worth it! Highly recommend you talk with him about any gym advice you may need. Most definitely wont regret it!
