The LA Fitness gym in Downingtown is AWESOME! I dont know who hires all of the people there, but Kudos to them! I believe Sam Kennedy does some/if not all of the hiring though, and she also takes fabulous care of the gym as the OM. I do know that she hired Frank Fabrizio, who I absolutely love. He is adorable and such an asset to have at the front desk to greet the members when they arrive. Love seeing him! He is so cheerful and wonderful to talk with. And, Id like to mention how much fun Adgrian McCain, Shannon McMahon, and Em Crones Zumba classes are! I never thought I would "love" Zumba classes, but I do! I love LA Fitness in Downingtown! The list of "AWESOME" just goes on and on...Ingmar Centurion, Brandon Leech, Cody DOrazio, Cody Dunn, Connor Pecora, Cameron Runkle, Josh Lopez, Andrew Gorr, and Brooke Curley. Cant wait to get there to see everyone and work out. Its like going to the gym to hang out with your friends. Each one brings a little something different to the table, friendly, charming, funny, beautiful smiles, and very helpful. One thing they all have in common though, is wanting to be the best gym and they all actively work at ensuring the members are happy. Each of them really cares about making a difference there. All of them go out of there way to do what they can to make it a fantastic experience. And for me, it is. It is indeed my "Happy Place". I not only enjoy going there, there are many benefits to doing so, I also leave with better health. I wonder, just how does one organization have so many "AWESOME" people? LA Fitness is a whole lot of fun! I am grateful and appreciative to be around so many wonderful people there! And when I went to the gym to work out at the 11th hour on July 4th, Josh Lopez, who was at the front desk, opened the door for me and said, "I was wondering where you were." So sweet! And nice to be greeted like that. They notice when you arent there. Another reason to love LA Fitness in Downingtown. And it added to my happiness when I got there, to hear that! I have never belonged to a gym before where they were as friendly as this one is. The people there are awesome! I appreciated that the gym was opened on the holiday and that Josh was there. So, what are you waiting for?? Comen and have some fun with us at LA Fitness! Its like family without the drama.

PROS They have all the equipment you need and group classes if thats what your into. They have a lap pool TVs are attached to the cardio equipment and have hookups for your iphone CONS Pool area + Bathroom Wreaks of bleach. (Took a shower in there once and the janitor was bleaching the stalls, the fumes were so strong I could barely breath, had to leave the shower immediately) Dirty bathrooms and trash cans overfilled Personal trainers use "used car salesman" tactics! - they do their best to sneak you into signing a contract. I decided to try out the training for a year thinking if I dont like it I could cancel. LOL was I wrong. Trainer had me sign a 1 sheet summary of my "obligations" and didnt show me the actual contract. He digitally imposed my signature on to the actual contract! Even wireless carriers have the decency of showing you the actual contract. I only noticed that I signed a contract when i saw it in my email when I got home. Also get this, if for any reason you had to cancel your contract (you know if you lose your job as an example) they would charge you 50% of the remaining contract. (its a ton of money fyi) The next day I came in to cancel (contract stated i had 3 days to cancel) and the front desk person stated i had to talk with the physical trainer who had me sign the "contract". So I sat there while he rambled on how he could get me a better deal (seriously...) and even offered a "non-contract" option (would have been nice to know beforehand), from which I was done playing games and told him to cancel. He stated it would take 24 hours for Corporate to process the cancellation. I called next day and spoke with the service manager, he stated corporate has nothing to do with cancelling the contract during the 3 day period and that he never received the cancellation request! (good thing I called...) He promptly cancelled my contract and sent a receipt of cancellation to my email in under 1 minute (24 hours my A@@). I am now in the process of cancelling my LA membership, which not surprisingly, requires you to pony express a letter of intent to cancel membership to headquarters. Thats right you cant cancel over the internet or the phone it has to be by snail mail.... So if a "physical trainer" at LA comes up to you, as soon as they start to speak JUST SAY NO!

Apparently I m not the only one who go screwed over at this place. I singed up for a membership pretty simply and was content with the facility. Heres where they sink their claws into you. You "get" a "free" personal fitness assessment with your membership. sounds good right. right up until they basically make you sing up for more personal training. they make it sound like your just a POS if you dont go balls to the wall on training. So I say ok personal training might be ok for another month what do I got to lose? The very first question I asked was. whats your cancelation policy? They respond by saying oh its no big deal you got 30 days to cancel no big deal. they dont give you any kind of contract to read until its too late. all they say is sign on the little electronic pad. So I did reluctantly. The only charge I saw up front was my sign up fee for the gym which was $200 some odd dollars and 200 bucks for just a month of personal training = 4 -30min sessions. all of this I was ok with and was willing to pay. it wasnt until I got home and read my email that I figured out I was SCAMED! the little pad they had me sing was for a contract that I had never read or knew about until after they made me sign for it. the contract was for a whole year of personal training! $2000+ for just the most basic personal trainer. So when I found this out I went straight to the gym and asked to talk to the person in charge. the guy at the front desk directed me to someone I had never seen or talked to before. He told me he was the "manager" even though a different "manager" had signed me up with my membership when I first went in. Anyways I told him theres no way I can pay for this and I feel like you guys CHEATED me with this whole sketchy contract BS. And all he told me is "Theres nothing I can do". So before you Sign away $3000+ think about if these are the kind of people you want to trust your money to. And be smart dont EVER sign anything with out getting a contract first. These people should not be able to get away with these SCAMS. So do your self a favor and steer clear or you will suffer the same fate.

After reading these reviews I think the biggest problem is that these people have too high of expectations when it comes to gyms. After Fast Gym closed down I switched to LA Fitness out of sheer convenience. I think--actually, I know-- I was spoiled by my last gym. LA has its benefits, but there are ways it could be better, for sure. First, the staff: Like many have written here, they are unmotivated at best. This is not to say all of the staff is that way, but they do sometimes come off as "clique-y". I have never, and probably will never, ask one of them for a spot, simply because I think that would inconvenience them too much. To the people complaining about the salespeople pressuring them into personal training I say: grow up. They are doing their jobs and if you are an adult, you should have the ability to simply say no. Also, every gym you join will have a contract. You need to be responsible and read it. It is not their fault you did not do so. A good trick is to walk in there knowing how much youre willing to pay. The salespeople are always ecstatic to have an easy sale so just say what youre willing to pay. Next is the building itself. I have never had a problem with any of the equipment, nor the cleanliness . It seems that they have a working system. Most of the members remember to wipe their equipment. The nastiest thing about this place is the amount of loogeys people spit into the drinking faucets; it is seriously a problem that Ive contemplated bringing my own sign in and putting up over the faucets. But other than that, as I said, it is very clean and the equipment gets fixed usually in a timely manner. Ive never swam in the pool, nor the hot tub, but the sauna and the locker rooms are usually very clean, which is nice. THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE FOR THIS GYM IS THE AMOUNT OF MEMBERS. If you like to workout between the hours of 4-7 the gym is going to be PACKED; and I mean seriously packed. It is not uncommon to have to wait for people to get off of the equipment you want to use. In synopsis, I would say dont join. It means more room for me. =D
