I’m writing this because I feel this particular facility is getting too much negativity and needs a positive light shed on it. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, here’s mine. Overall they are excellent. There’s plenty of equipment, great classes, have good childcare, and the most flexible parents night out. They have a nice Olympic sized pool and a hot tub/hydrotherapy area. The price is tricky; the Y is geared toward families. If you go single or as a couple, you probably paying about $90 p/m. You go as a family – regardless of size, you’re paying $110 p/m. Factor in the babysitting while you exercise, the date night(s) between this and other Y’s, it’s a steal. You can’t take advantage of either of these benefits not being a family, it doesn’t seem worth it. One neutral point is they don’t have a zero entry pool, but that would be a huge change and not expected. You can always go to the WC branch if you need this. The negative is that every summer (like now), the have A/C problems. A day or two without isn’t a big deal, but for the past 3 years it’s taken 2-3 weeks. Knowing this is a reoccurring problem, they should handle it before it’s an issue, like in May.

Had to go here today because Kennett was closed due to power outages. Strength Equipment in comparison is extremely limited and the atmosphere resembled a planet fitness more than a YMCA. Usually I can get away with an occasional grunt or drop of a heavy dumbbell but not here. Dumbbells only went up to 100 so I had to settle for those and after 12 hard reps I happened to drop them. Lets face it 100lbs dumbbell are heavy and when I dropped them the wellness attendant screamed like a 12 year old girl when they hit the floor and some other YMCA employee looked at me like I had something growing out of my head. Apparently nobody comes there to actually work out. From this guys appearance the only lifting he does is a donut from his waist to his face. The floor is pretty hard so you cant deadlift, the equipment is limited and out of date and the people that work there that I dealt with seem like they think they are running a social club instead of a gym. They might as well just rename the place planet fitness. I suppose each YMCA is different either way, I cant wait to get back to Kennett.

I found YMCA very expensive. They want to charge me almost $70 per month + joining fee of $120. The reason they gave to me is a free child care. So I checked it out. Its dirty and small area for work out. So, I looked around and found out I can pay $30 at a regular fitness center in Downingtown and have a free childcare too. Whats up with this guys at the Y? Someone must be on some heavy drugs..

Great gym. A little pricey but they give cheaper rates based on your income and tons of perks. Wife likes Zumba and body combat. Free babysitting while you work out. If you just want a tread mill and some weights there are cheap gyms. If you want a gym with a heated pool and hot tub this is the place. As always you get what you pay for

HORRIBLE experience at this YMCA. The swim lessons are extremely overpriced and the staff giving them had their own kids in the pool and was paying more attention to them than my child. Had to end my membership and find another facility with a pool because it was terrible. They dont care about their members.

The facilities are easily accessible, up to date, and clean. The equipment is in great shape and well maintained. There is an ample array of equipment to choose from and usually there are no long waiting periods. The staff is helpful and friendly.

It took a little time, but this YMCA did take care of an issue I had as a new member. They have recently cleaned and done maintenance that was needed. I hope they keep this YMCA moving in the right direction.
