Im not a sensitive person when it comes to these things; however, taking 6 sofa cushion covers turned into a rather unpleasant experience. Im not the typical looking hill dweller - Im a bike messenger - so when I took said covers in to get cleaned, the first thing the lady told me was I had to pay up front for the cleaning. While being a messenger doesnt necessitate much dry cleaning, Ive actually had a considerable amount of experience in having this type of thing done with significantly higher amounts for a bill, which was the ladies excuse to have me pay prior to the cleaning. Never have I had to pay up front, which also perplexed the other lady when I went to pick up the order and had to clarify that it was prepaid (the receipt had "prepaid" printed on it). Now the real kicker (as if feeling like I was profiled a bit wasnt enough), my partner is now going through each of the cushions as I write this because she is legitimately stressing over the fact there may be more BEDBUGS in the covers! You read that correctly - bedbugs. As I was putting the covers back on the cushions, one of these lovely little parasites came plopping right out of a cover I had just taken off the hanger! Originally I had taken the covers to get cleaned (which one cover in particular was really not cleaned well anyway) not to get a possible infestation. In short, find Another Close cleaner thatll treat you like the human you are and have a facility thats going to clean your desirables, not help you bring more filth into your home. tl;dr - rude and possibly profiled on appearance to require prepayment and gave sofa cushion covers f*#@ing bedbugs.

I did not even set foot in this store because the two women who I spoke with over the phone were so ignorant and arrogant. I called looking for a low toxic or eco-friendly cleaner. The woman who answered the phone said "I dont know." Thats it. She did not even offer to get more information, and when I pressed her I was told that she was just 18 and worked only on the weekends (and apparently did not care). I asked to speak to her supervisor. The 18 year old then got back on the phone and said - yes, we are organic. As there is no such thing as "organic" dry cleaning, I asked about the type of cleaning, specifically. Did they use wet cleaning, CO2, or hydrocarbon or Green Earth (I avoid the latter because they are very toxic even if better than the traditional PERC)? When I finally spoke to the manager, she told me that she just worked at the store and did not know. She said that if I came in to the store in person she would tell me. I said it was a long walk for a piece of information she should be able to deliver over the phone, and I asked if she could find out and call me back. She just kept repeating that she just worked in the store and not at the central plant. I hung up. I am okay with ignorant people, but if you work at a dry cleaner should be able to place a call for a customer to get more information about the service you are selling. I often spend $400 a month on dry cleaning, and even though this location is the closest option to my house, I will NEVER take a single item in for cleaning. I hope they go under.

Capitol Hill Cleaners & Laundry gets a solid four star rating for 1) Its location just a few blocks from the Eastern Market Metro, 2) The woman who runs it is very knowledgeable and very friendly, 3) They are always open when they say they are (unlike the Capitol Hill Cleaning Emporium off of Lincoln Park), and 4) They get the job done fast! The only complaint is that its a bit more pricey than other dry cleaners on Capitol Hill, but the convenience and quality of work may make it worth it. Two pro-tips: 1) If you check in on Yelp, they give you a 20% discount on alterations, and 2) They also copy keys in case you need it.

I took a bridesmaid dress I ordered online into Capitol Hill Cleaners to have it taken in. They did a fantastic job!! It wasnt an easy dress to alter either - the top portion was pleated, and the bottom had three separate layers. Very thick materials. Still, I had it back a week later, and the dress fits just about perfectly. Very impressed with the high quality of work!

I just moved here a few months ago, and Ive been to 2 other cleaners before I went to this one, and they kept losing, or messing up my expensive clothes! The owner is really nice too. I definitely recommend this cleaner

People were rude. The prices are exorbitant and they dont tell you how much it will be until you pick your garments up. More expensive sive that New York even! Never to go back there.

The best Ive ever found on the Hill, after living here 30+ years. And they do tailoring, too. And keys!

The staff were rude and unhelpful, and there are plenty of other places to go nearby.
