Referred by a friend, when I said I wanted a salon in Dupont Circle. Their online appointment system looked good, at first. Not so much. Cludgy to use. And the hours for the stylist my friend recommended didt match up with what they told me on the phone. Speaking of the phone: Quick to answer, quick to put me on hold. Rushed when they finally got to me. I arrives early (as is my habit), and sat (uncomfortably) on one of their very few seats (ottomans, cant relax on those) and waited. I was offered tea, which was a nice touch, but as the seat was an ottoman, it was awkward to balance it. Also, how about offering to take my coat? When I asked, I was waved in the general direction of a closet.) While I was in the bathroom (again, found after a general wave in that direction), someone opened the door, even though Id used the "lock." Changing room had nowhere to put my blouse. I ended up hanging them in the coat closet next to it, but no one elses clothes were there. Maybe I missed something. Maybe someone could have helped orient me. The shampoo person kept missing most of the back of my head, with every step. Not relaxing, even though there was a minute I think was supposed to be a head massage. I was soaked down my entire back when she was done. Cut was basically what I asked for (not complicated). But the blow-dryer nearly burned me 4 or 5 times, despite my giving feedback. Stylist stopped halfway through to have a long conversation with the front desk, keeping me waiting without even saying "excuse me." Styling was more like what some people used to call a "First Lady do." Cost was what youd expect in DC, which is to say high, but I was expecting that.

This is a horrendous salon! I am new in town and was recommended for God knows what reason. If you are attractive and value your looks dont go anywhere near this establishmetn. This is NOT a high end salon. I felt like walking out when i saw all the older customers and was ignored by all the staff and i should have (always go with your GUT in these situations.) I read a review of "jamie and decided to try. He insulted me within 5 minutes suggesting I radically change my hairstyle (and cut my long layered hair for which I always receive MANY compliments), then refused to listen to what I wanted. He was aggressive, annoyed by my reasonable questions and in the end dead wrong on his assessments. I asked for a lighter color just to color my grey in my roots and he agreed to that then just ignored what we agreed to and instead he used a very dark brown - even on the lighter hair around my face! While I was anxious about the too dark color NO ONE checked in on me. Thankfully i was self-possessed enough to get them to wash it out before it completely set. Regardless, my $300 worth of highlights from a reputable salon are now destroyed and I have rarely been so angry at a stranger before. Jamie - what a jerk!! Perhaps you should look at your own image before offering advice to attractive clients on how to change theirs! Now I look like a freak and have to spend $300 to get back to my stylist in connecticut for repair. IF YOU ARE UNDER 60 AND ATTRACTIVE, STAY FAAAR AWAY FROM THIS "SALON".

I read that Rosa was the best in town for a decent price, so I went to her to cut my hair short (again). The salon was nice, Rosa was nice, but I I found sitting in her chair to be kinda awkward. Not unreasonably so - she was nice and all - but she was just seemingly forced in our interactions and on top of it she didnt really do what I asked at all. She was careful and the cut she gave was well done. It just wasnt what I asked for. She wouldnt go anywhere near as short as I wanted, and she kept saying over and over how I had ruined my bangs by cutting them too far back. Well, thats how I like them. There was no "wrong" about it - it was the style I had before. Than she kept saying how my hair was so terribly dry and I needed to come in for a special conditioning treatment. Which, thats ok. Im not offended, I just thought she was oddly hung up on it to the point I wanted to say "OK, I get it. Youve been saying this for 20 minutes and I said Id come for a treatment. Just cut my hair and lay off." So, shes skilled but she didnt really listen and was personally kinda forced. Maybe just me, but - especially as my husband actually hated the cut - Ill be trying somewhere new.

Ive been going to Chris at Salon Cielo for several years now. I have recommended him to many of my closest friends. Chris is the Salon Leader at Cielo in Dupont and he is very talented! My hair has never looked better. It is longer and healthier than it has ever been. Even though I get my color touched up every 5 weeks everyone thinks my hair color is natural. He cuts curly, wavy hair really well and he uses color products that nourish the hair rather than damage it. I cant say nearly enough how much having Chris as a hair stylist has been a game changer. I brought in a celebrity photo of my hair and left looking exactly like the photo. He has a vision! He loves what he does and it is very wonderful having him work on my hair. Vasti, another stylist does my brows and she cuts a lot of mens hair. Love her too! The salon experience is good, too. Conveniently located in Dupont, as well. Definitely 5 stars!

I tried Cielo for the first time the other day. I had read overall good reviews, but you never know. I got a shampoo cut and blowdry. I really like my cut and my stylist took his time and I had his full attention. He described why he was doing what he was doing and what products he was using (without pushing me to buy them). I was a little disapointed in the infamous shampoo with head massage, but it definitely went on longer than your normal shampoo at a salon, so I cant complain too much. I also appreciated that the stylist instructed the shampooer what products to use on my hair instead of a One-size-fits-all approach. $55 plus $12 tip = $67 which I feel is pretty reasonable for DC. Everyone was pleasant and the place was unpretentious. Ill probably be going back.

Im new in town and was looking for a trustworthy place to get a haircut. Salon Cielo was it. I had Mike, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me great hair advice. I ended up with one of the better haircuts Ive ever had. It was more expensive than I usually like at $55, but worth it for the good experience.

Excellent stylists and staff. Salon is small and no-frills, but convenient Dupont location. Metered street parking only. No reliable way to book appt online. No comfy seats to wait in. I dont care too much about frills so I still go here as its a good value.

I have been an extremely pleased, happy and satisfied client of Hananes for 10 years. Her talent is immense, she has a special eye for hair coloring and cuts. The atmosphere in this salon is awesome, everyone is friendly, professional and pleasant.
