What can I say about Career Source... if youre on cash assistance, its got its good points and its bad points. The worst things about it if you are on cash assistance, is 1.) If you dont know the game and the unwritten rules of it, before you start to play, youll probably lose and it does seem to be specifically designed that way, and 2.) Your career Counselor most likely wont be able to help you much with career counseling. Cash Assistance Good Points- cash drop once a month; additional $100 per month loaded onto a reloadable pre-paid cc*; support services will pay up to one bill per month with up to $200 on electric, $100 on car insurance, and $70 on water; they will also pay for one time support services like renewing the tags on your vehicle; and up to $3,500 for schooling; *Plus, if youre a domestic violence victim, if you press charges, they will refer you to the Salvation Army who will give you $1,500 to move... ** There are two good services they offer. One is "Up Front Diversion"- If you get a job before cash opens, they will give you up to $1,000 to pay bills and you have to bring documentation of all the bills you owe to get it. The catch to this is that you dont know about this until AFTER you do your orientation which you arent told to do UNTIL you get approved for the cash assistance, so you dont find out about until AFTER cash opens most of the time. If you do get this, you only get it once in a lifetime and then you cant apply for cash again for 3 months. The Second is $1,000 in severance pay when you go OFF cash assistance, and you have to have been ON cash assistance for 6 months to qualify for the severance pay. *** more on this at the end *** Now.. it does definitely seem to be set up to keep you on the dole so to speak. Unless you also get Section 8 housing, the total of $600 in cash and support services wont even cover rent for most people, let alone rent and all the other bills, but if you know about all the options, plan strategically before even applying, you can make it work for you. Cash Assistance Bad Points- *As already stated, your career counselor is no career counselor. Dont expect to get any advice or guidance beyond "You can see what programs well pay for on the website." They dont really know much about careers at all... their job seems to consist mainly of documenting evidence to keep you on the cash assistance. Dont expect to get straight answers about anything. You will always get some long, vague story with no real solid commitment to anything, so when something goes wrong, theres usually a lot redirect about what happened. Example: I asked to have my tags renewed. I turned everything in that they asked for the day they asked for it, and it took a month for the check to arrive in an office in a different city. My career counselor said she told them to mail it to the office in my city, and a week later, she told me that they mailed it to the DMV... which is a HUGE problem, since its the Tax Collector, not the DMV, that it has to go to. Another example: Id been offered two jobs within a couple of weeks of cash opening, but didnt have the gas money to get back and forth until I got paid, so I asked for support with that, and I was refused because I hadnt yet logged 130 hours of looking for a job for that month. So I had to turn down two jobs because I hadnt spent enough time looking for a job. Of course, the redirect was all about "Well the incentive is for participation"... participation in looking for a job, not for getting one apparently. If youre not on cash assistance and just going there to find a job, youre better off on your own. And, whether youre on cash assistance or not, if you really want career counseling to figure out what to do with your life, youre better off Googling phrases like "Jobs that pay $40,000 a year without a degree," and figuring out how to pay for any classesn, or certifications for it some other way.

Id give them no stars but thats not an option. All they do is direct you to the old af, non secure, hand-me-down from a highschool computer lab computers. They shoud just close the place down. When you call... Say you want the operator because youre trying to reach a specific person... Nope the line just rings once and hangs up on you. Da fuc? And its basically run by the most uneducated people ive ever met. Basically dont bother... You have a better chance on your own.

It sucks because i do not have the gas to go over there and talk to them i need to speak with them and cant get through If i could i would rate with negative stars

Only Good for printing Resumes. Antiquated Internet Explorer browser puts your personal information at risk. Staff is not knowledgeable and they will only do the bare minimum required of them to help you with anything. Seriously typing anything into their computers is dangerous. No ability to retrieve your resume from online storage such as Google Docs.

The Voc Rehab program & career resource dept are located in the same building but cant communicate and food stamps dont communicate with them either yet all these programs rely on info from each other so why I have to be the communicator and continue to get passed back and forth between each blaming another constantly is ridiculous to me.

Be prepared for a lot of orientations, and paperwork. And time and effort. They put you on a computer to look for a job yourself. After 6 months they still never helped me find a job or got me a job or interview. Must be this area no jobs, but really?

The front desk lady is the most helpful person there. Some of the case workers make you feels unimportant. The others try to help you out when yours is unavailable.
