Full disclosure, Im Texan we take our Texmex VERY seriously. In the eight years that I have lived in this deity deprived part of the country I think I can count on one finger the number of Mexican restaurants that are worth my hard earned dollar. That said, we decided to head over to Tequila Sunrise late on Saturday night for a quick after work nibble. Located in a small nondescript shopping center on Dixie Hwy, Tequila Sunrise isnt much to look at. Its small, with a large bar occupying a good chunk of the dining room. Thankfully the decor is understated and not nearly as garish as your typical Mexican restaurant. We we decided to keep things simple and order a couple of appetizers, well try the entrees at a later date. First, the Nacho Platter. This is a combination of three of each of the different types of nachos they offer (cheese, crab, chicken, and combo). This is not the Mount Nacho style of nacho, rather the individual garnished chip style. Truthfully, they were just ok. Nothing special, and the presentation was pretty sloppy. The standout was the crab nacho which had generous amounts of old bay seasoning so it was like a crab cake on a chip. The winner of the night was the Queso Dip. Queso rivals chicken fried steak as the state dish of Texas. We Iike our melted cheese and for the life of us we can never figure out why it seems to be so difficult. Maybe we are just born with a cheese melting gene. For the first time since I arrived in Florida I have found a queso dip somewhere besides my own kitchen. This queso dip is a little more refined, it has Swiss cheese, wine, and other goodies so it bears more of a resemblance to fondue than the usual bowl of Velveeta loveliness of which I am so fond of. Its served with fried flour tortillas which makes for an interesting flavor and texture combination. Id have it again, Id pour it on a shoe and go to town, its that good. Overall its Tequila Sunrise is a winner, I cant wait to go back and try the molé...or maybe the enchiladas....definitely a margarita.

Extremely bad customer service. We were at the door at 11:30 in the morning when they open. The fat blonde waitress unlocked the door and left instead of just opening it and welcoming us to the establishment. She sat us down and then forgot about us. She came to take our order about 30 minutes after mind you she had attended two or three tables that got there after us. She sat us down and then forgot about us. She came to take our order about 30 minutes after mind you she had attended two or three tables that got there after us. After that someone brought our order out and we did not see your waitress ever again. We didnt get any refills on anything or asked how anything was. Very sad because the food was actually good but it lacks a lot of customer service which is key in the restaraunt business. We will not be coming here any longer.

Not the best Mexican inspired restaurant out there. Service was moderate, restaurant was far less than busy and yet had to ask different waiters multiple time for service because our server was not to be found. Chips and salsa which normally comes before a meal was brought out with our meal, may just be the way this restaurant operates but not how a typical Mexican restaurant would function. Food was average. Chicken fajitas were not seasoned well tasted like plain chicken, Pork chimichangas were better than the fajitas but still lacked the want to have again. The price were way to high for an average meal. There are various other traditional Mexican restaurants in the area that, I recommend trying the others as well as this one to determine your favorite.

This place is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant. Their fresh made salsa is delicious (salsa is a good indicator). If the salsa is fresh made (no canned tomatoes), the Mexican restaurant is 9 time out of 10 good. However, this place is exceptional. Theyre very accommodating here. For example, I like "double decker" style tacos. They have no problem whatsoever making them for me. I also highly recommend the Fish Veracruz, Ceviche, or Fish Tacos... to the bank! You just cant go wrong with this place. Additionally, if you sign up for their email mailing list you will get "Buy one entree, get the second of equal or lesser value free" coupon. Stop by this place for lunch, you wont be disappointed... trust me.

Shouldve left when I had the chance. On national margarita day, a money making day for most all Mexican themed restaurants, the staff seemed to purpose to drag their feet and keep everyone waiting for service. Rather than hustle to keep the drinks coming while patrons looked over the menus, they kept us waiting 10+ minutes without taking drink order. Was going to leave when waiter finally arrived to ask for drinks. 10 minutes later, the drinks arrived WITHOUT tequila inside WTHECK. Got a "hook up" with a shot of tequila to add to our lemonades. The yelp reviews were spot on, its hit or miss here. But unlike those reviewers, the folks at Tequila Sunrise wont ever get another dime out of me.

I ordered the chicken mole. I know that all mole sauces are made with nuts but I figured I would ask if theres was because Ive heard of some recipes that arent. I was told by our waiter that it was not made with nuts. Even asked him if he was sure cause Im highly allergic. He asked one of the chefs and that said no nuts. The chicken mole comes out and the first bite I knew it had nuts in it. I stopped the manager and he said yes it has nuts. He yelled at the chefs but didnt not offer me anything but a new meal. No discount or extra to make me feel better. Not sure how I feel about this restaurant after this experience ....

I LOVE THE FOOD, BUT THE SERVICE IS BAD. I have experienced so many issues with the service, as I do mostly in Florida. For starts, I dont understand how an establishment is selling Mexican food but wants to charge for salsa. Huh? Seriously?. I am not paying extra for salsa when I already paid for the food. The worst service is from the women that work at the restaurant. The men always have a smile and are very friendly and patient. I have been to the restaurant once and was confronted by the owner who, happens to be a man. He was great and handsome : ). I love this place but the service from the women needs to improve.
