If I could give no stars I would. Both the so-called manager and the tow truck driver Chris were/are incompetent. To start, they were called by my insurance company to handle my roadside assistance - I blew out a tire and had no spare. I was notified by my insurance company that a driver was dispatched and would arrive by a certain time. I even called into Wells dispatch to update the drop off destination, which I was informed I had to call my insurance company back to update - which I did. My insurance company updated the destination with Wells and again I was given an updated arrival time which was still the same. After waiting for close to 2 hours and exceeding the arrival time by 30 minutes - which was 20 minutes before the tire repair place closed - I called into Wells to get an ETA. The lady who answered seemed completely lost and had no clue as to when it would arrive. I end up getting transferred to another lady who told me there was a "glitch" and that a driver was never dispatched. Really? After I talked to them and got a text and call confirmation?? So, she told me she had a driver named Chris nearby who could get to me quick and that he would call me. 7-8 minutes go by before he calls me and hes not remotely close. Hes at close to the loop and Im in Lincoln Park. So there was no way he would get to me in time to get me to the tire change place. I vented and let him know I was frustrated and told him "I know its not your fault but this is bullsh*t". He then told me not to cuss him out - which I didnt - and hung up on me. He then went and whined to the dispatch that I cussed him out. So, when I called in to complain about them not doing what they were hired to do, the same lady who told me Chris was close started getting nasty with me when she got caught in a lie about the truck not being dispatched due to a glitch. Now after seeing all the other negative reviews on here and Yelp, Im not surprised by their antics.

Shame on you Erie-LaSalle Body Shop for referring me to Wells Automotive! This is a black eye to your fine business and I would expect more from a body shop thats been around since 1934! Wells Automotive Service fits your stereotypical auto service provider. Stop in with a light flashing on your dashboard and theyll tell you you need to rebuild you engine. I stopped in with a service engine light that wouldnt turn off and left with a list of 15 (yes, 15/fifteen/quince!) things that needed to be done immediately. Of course, this list cost well over $1500 to complete. At $130/hour labor cost just to look at the computer, I was already stuck. I asked that they simply fix the issue that is causing the light to flash, which they did for $600. The problem is that a day and half later the light was back on. I took it back in and asked that they actually fix my car this time, at which point they said that the other 14 things were what was causing the light to come on this time. I of course left, risked a 7 hour drive to Ohio to see my family mechanic, then had my car fully fixed and serviced for under $200. My local mechanic couldnt even find any work that Wells had done. So, if Google isnt working for you and you forget that you read all of these terrible reviews on Yelp, then certainly go to Wells Automotive. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a family run shop or even a dealership that isnt motivated to rip off customers.

We were locked out of our car at the soldier field garage. We called our roadside assistance who then contracted the job to wells automotive. We called to make sure they knew exactly where we were and the man I spoke with advised they would be there in 45 minutes. After checking with the parking garage staff they advised us to have wells automotive knock on their office door in order to be let in free of charge to the garage. We then called wells automotive to advise them of such. Thats when we were rudely advised that we had to meet them at the entrance of the garage in order for them to service us. I advised them that I had my young children with me and could not take them to wait at the entrance in the cold and windy Chicago evening weather. I then spoke to a manager who was even ruder than the first person I spoke to. He advised that he was going to call my roadside to cancel the service. I advised that I did not understand that my needs needed to comply with what they wanted in order to be serviced. It was not like I was at home and wouldnt come outside. I was in a public parking garage with my children. My roadside assistance advised they were filing a complaint against wells automotive. I would advise you to go elsewhere unless you have a specific need. Wells automotive is not service oriented at all. Call someone else.

My insurance company created an emergency pick up ticket (I was in a motorcycle accident and my bike was on the sidewalk by Loyola) and Wells accepted it. I never received a call when the bike was supposed to be picked up or to confirm drop off, which I thought was weird. When I call, around 7pm, Im redirected to the after hours operator who tells me they dont have access into the main system so Ill have to call back tomorrow. The next morning I call and ask about the status of my motorcycle. "We dont tow motorcycles" Im told flatly. So why did you accept the pickup? "We dont tow motorcycles" is repeated. Now Im frustrated and ask to tell me the status of ticket number XXX. "That was cancelled yesterday". Great, thanks for all your help. I had to spend 3 hours to go check that the motorcycle was still there and arrange another company to come pick it up. So in summary: Wells towing cancelled my pick up, never bothered to let me know so I could make other arrangements, and left my motorcycle on a sidewalk overnight to be ticketed or impounded. Use another company if youre looking for basic human decency and an actual tow.

Towing showed up an hour after their guaranteed one hour arrival time because of a shift change at 3 oclock. I would caution future users about needing towing around this time as it will most likely be delayed. When the driver arrived he did not say "hi", and was barely personable. To add on to the matter he didnt know how to drive a stick shift so I had to move my car into alignment with the vehicle myself. Personally, I expect people in the towing business to have that kind of knowledge. While the driver was driving to the repair shop he ran a red light, and seemed to forget I was trying to follow him there and almost lost me in traffic. Once we arrived at the repair shop (not Wells Automotive) the driver unloaded the car quietly, sort of pointed with a grunt to the office of the place, and began leaving. He almost left before coming by and giving me a handshake and leaving. Perhaps the only attempt at decent human interaction. This was a pretty bad experience. Im glad my car got towed, but the long wait and quality of their tow truck drivers is embarrassing. Dont recommend.
