The event I attended went well, it was the reception, catered by Chow, owned by Mary Corlett, which was a disaster. The reception was so poorly managed it was a joke. I am part of the team that organized the catering portion of the event which was the downfall of an otherwise perfect evening. The vegetables were cut like elephant fodder—they were ridiculously huge and not user friendly and the crostini and pita were rock-hard and unappetizing. Several of the 200 guests mentioned how they unappetizing the food was and asked about our catering service, CHOW. Most of the food (at least 75%) was left untouched, primarily because it was not appealing, tasty, or user-friendly. We had lots of negative comments on both the Chow server (who really wasn’t a server, but a sitter)--he sat on a chair away from the food. We were shocked and embarrassed having to apologize over and over for the inadequacy of the reception fare. The server, or sitter, didn’t assist guests with the food, he sat until it was over. Lots of food complaints, not a good thing for the new buyer, Lee. Yes, we were told (after we paid Mary for the event) that she no longer owned the business. Whoever owns it now, Lee or Mary, or both, refused to listen to any complaints and said, "we arent going to refund any of your money. We should have known something was suspicious when Mary, who knew about the event for months, didnt return phone calls or emails until a day before the event. She always had some kind of stupid response. This is a con job company, they are not reputable or ethical for any type of event, let alone a 200 person theater event. We are of course disputing the charge with our credit card company since both Lee and Mary are unwilling to talk about it. We were willing to talk about it and fairly adjust the price, but they didnt want to negotiate at all. So now they will negotiate with our credit card adjusters who have already been sent a review of their service, photos, and comments from guests. The purpose of this review is to warn others who might be thinking of catering their big or small event with Chow. Please dont make the mistake we did. There are plenty of reputable catering services in Chicago. I dont think serving stale crostini or rock-hard pita bread is appetizing for anyone. And who wants unsophisticated vegetables that are eight or nine inches long for dipping? What a turn-off. This was a poor exit for you Mary as the owner of Chow, and a poor show for Lee, the new owner. We hold you both responsible since you took the order and Chow has our money.

Went to wedding catered from here...none of the food was the stuff at the taste test. None of it tasted fresh either, like it had been made the day or two before and heated up.The lasagna was like eating a brick, dry, tasteless and insanely greasy---I had such horrendous heart burn i had to take a pepcid!. For the money she charged for the food and "service" it was ridiculous. She had a plated salad but was going to charge an extra 20 a head to serve the food over buffet? Also the "bar"if you want to call it that---couldnt make a cosmo and told my husband they didnt have big enough glasses to make a long island...again for the money this woman charged my loved one...she got away with murder in my opinion, had it been my wedding none of these shenanigans would have taken place! ALSO---other family members of mine have talked to owner after the fact and it was excuse after excuse and NO accountability! Beware if catering

Chow is a good lunch option with nice cold cuts and salads options. Also their deli has homemade sides to choose from everyday. Its a little pricy but every once in awhile its worth it. Friendly employees and a light and bright atmosphere is a good option for lunch.

They are consistently "sold out" of something, their staff seem stressed and/or a tad unfriendly, and they do not seem capable of consistently prepping something in a timely manner when they get busy. The food is alright. 3 stars.

the food is delicious - love all of their homemade soups! They have lots of sandwich options too. My favorite has roast beef and horseradish mayo. Its an ideal place to grab a dinner to go too.
