I am a big fan of Planet Fitness. I admire that their mission is to be all-inclusive and that they try to help foster a community of people that want to get better. I’m even willing to overlook the contradictory “Judgment-Free (except for meatheads that we judge) Zone” With that said, this review isn’t a criticism of Planet Fitness as a whole, but this location especially. Over the past few years, this location seems to have abandoned the Planet Fitness mentality. On any given night you can walk in and be in the presence of guys in spaghetti string tank tops (or shirts vertically cut in half), people walking around having conversations on their phones, and people slamming weights. Disclaimer: I have no real problem with any of these things. I’ve been a member of a bunch of other gyms (XSport, LA Fitness) where this is common practice, and that’s fine, but my problem is that these are crystal clear violations of Planet Fitness’ rules, and the employees don’t care anymore. I originally joined this Planet Fitness when they first opened. I liked the environment, I got pumped working out and being around people who genuinely wanted to better their lives, not people who came to admire themselves in the mirror. The lunk alarm went off almost all the time, effectively weeding out ignorant people who had no regard for anyone else at the gym but themselves. They emigrated to the XSport in Lincolnwood. The staff was awesome: welcoming, friendly, polite, and knowledgeable. What happened to these staff members? The current staff at Planet Fitness are for the most part very cold, rude, and unprofessional. If you catch her on a good day, the manager Liz will greet you with a smile. Otherwise, it’s all business, no greeting upon entering, just “member number?” Gi is the same way. No smile, no greeting, no small conversation. Both of these employees aren’t as rude as they are unfriendly. It’s a pretty stark juxtaposition considering Planet Fitness’ overall attitude. Most of the male employees are very nice, except for one gentleman, whose name I believe is “Yenzen”. Our interactions are usually like this: -I walk in. -He stares at me, waiting for me to give him my member number. -“Hi, how are you doing?” -“Member number.” - ####. Thanks! - …….. He seems to utterly hate his job (or me). If he’s not available on the floor, he is laying down across a bench in the men’s locker room playing on his phone, or eating an entire pan of baked chicken behind the front desk. Side story: this past summer, I came to work out in a tanktop, and the manager at the time, Liz, stopped me and informed me that the straps of my tanktop needed to be four fingers wide. Fine, no problem. I changed into a shirt I had in my car and continued my workout. I wasn’t upset that I got called out, in a way I was happy that she cared enough to enforce the rules. All that seems to be gone now. The lunk alarm is only used to signal an employee across the gym that the front desk needs them. I originally joined this Planet Fitness because it was different from other gyms. The staff actually seemed to care about their guests. Ignorant/arrogant people weren’t allowed. If I wanted to be surrounded by those kinds of people, I would have joined the Lincolnwood XSport, or stayed at LA Fitness. TLDR: -This location used to be awesome, now it’s not. -Employees treat you like a piece of garbage, not exactly conducive to it being a judgment-free zone. -The new massage chairs are fantastic. Two stars not for the actual gym, but because the employees at Planet Fitness Morton Grove don’t care anymore. Edit: I dont know how to edit formatting on Google Reviews.

First of all...Im giving this gym only 3 stars because of the managements inability to provide WiFi...I mean in this day and age thats ridiculous...I know this may be a minor gripe for some...but for people who have ALL their video/music in the cloud (which is an ever growing number of people) this is a major barrier. HMMM update my expensive data plan or go to a new gym? Aside from that its a pretty good gym depending on what your there for...BIG complaint is they have no standard bench press and force you to use smith machines...kinda odd, but I understand they probably do this to minimize people throwing and clanging big weight around...nonetheless its curious to remove the focal point of every gym since the creation of gyms. Overall: Pro: Fantastic for cardio, beginner lifters, elderly, lifters on a budget($10/month) or, in my case because it has a convenient location and isnt too crowded. Also, they have tons of machines if thats your thing. Cons: DBs stop at 60lbs...no classic bench press, no dead boxes or squat racks (basically nothing for an experienced lifter) but thats just not their target market so you really cant knock em for that... Fix the WiFi for 4 stars

Strongly smells of cleaning products but isnt very clean. The bathroom has those little scent things everywhere, around the toilet lids, and the tops of the stalls. It was super crowded at 3pm and the employee I spoke with about prices, etc said that its even more full on Monday, Tuesday. They have cool concepts like the 30 minute zone but its too small for that many people and that small of a space.

I love going to this location and honestly, it feels like home to me. Its always clean (the patrons are really good about wiping down their equipment too) and never smells. Im always greeted when I come and when I leave. The staff is always super helpful whenever I have a question (like what the Total Body Enhancement is and how to use it) and its always really quiet.

They have the best staff. Very clean and spacious. One thing they lack is an updated port for iphones or android devices on their cardio machines. Overall perfection.
