Charter Fitness of Olympia Fields is a phenomenal facility. I commute 45 minutes north just to get to this location and workout. I have been a member for almost three years and I have to say that I love everything about it. I was referred to this location by a co-worker / friend for personal training purposes. Due to being prone to injuries with several trainers at my local fitness facilities (I tried 3 different local locations / trainers), and having a set of injured knees, I thought that I was pretty much done working out. I found it impossible lose weight with being so sensitive to injury. That was until I took the initiative to give Charter Fitness of Olympia Fields a try. I began training with Michael Walker, who is now the Manager. I was able to lose weight, and given nutrition advice. Not ONCE did I have a problem with my knees, nor have I ever while being at this location --- and considering that my weight training has always been more on the heavy side. I have trained with several of their trainers and have been pleased with all. All are very knowledgeable and very cautious. I repeat -- I have not gotten any injuries and/or discomfort with anyone at Charter. At the front desk, there is also very helpful staff. I call many times with questions and they always guide me and help me with what I need. The facility has a great variety of workout equipment, such as: treadmills, stair masters, ellipticals, cardio bikes, weight machines, huge variety of free weights, cables, several benches, squat rack, TRX bands, kettle bells, etc. I can go on forever. They have it all. Last but not least, I feel like this is also another very important reason why I do enjoy the facility and do not mind the drive just to get here...CLEANLINESS. I always see staff taking care and maintaining the machines, floors, bathrooms. If the equipment is ever out of order, its gets fixed within the same week. I love this fitness center. I will continue to be a memeber as long as I can.

It was much better when it was Cardinal Fitness. The previous location was a stand alone building that was large and spacious with lots of windows and light. This facility is much smaller and dark. When they first moved to this location and I visited it was so drab and small that I just couldnt bring myself to workout there. It was depressing. About two years later, I returned because of the low price and what I was paying at L.A. Fitness. Im just not overall satisfied with this facility and will probably eventally return to L.A. Fitness. Overall the customer service is mediocre at best. Nothing that stands out...they do just enough to get by. The staff is unfriendly, but not friendly either. Ultimately, the tone and feel of the facility rests on the shoulders of the GM. He struts around like a peacock, very arrogant and although he may know fitness, it takes a whole lot more to manage.

Am new to this place (as of May 2014) and go 2-3 times per week; mostly mornings but have done the afternoon as well. The Trainers are very busy. I see them with a client all the time but, if you ask them they will offer some workout tips. Mornings are loud because there is a camaraderie among the guys that draws attention but creates a welcome atmosphere. Ive tried nearly every machine and constantly work out with the weights. Members are slack about returning items where they belong but I have seen Trainers going through putting things back in order. To me this is a fun place and a helpful place. The price is reasonable because it doesnt have frills like a pool or sauna a track or daycare. If you want to get your run on, your spin on, circuit through the machines or master the free weights in a good atmosphere where you can be alone or with others, this is the place to be.

I typically go VERY early in the morning before work to this location, otherwise, several of the treadmills will be out of order if I go after work. This is the major annoyance that I have with this location. The equipment is not state of the art but I have never felt like any of the equipment is dangerous to use like I see some others have. I will say that I tend to stay away from many of the machines other that the stair stepper and the treadmill because of the way I train so I do not use them with any sort of frequency. The people at the desk greet me every time and I have found them to be friendly. I will typically use the free weights and I am usually able to find the increments I need without waiting. Yes, its not the greatest location and they really need to get nicer equipment but you get what you pay for and it gets the job done and its close to my train station.

If zero stars was possible, I would rate it as such. This gym was so much better when it was owned and operated by Cardinal Fitness. Charter has taken a great gym and basically run it into the ground. Its just as they say though; you get what you pay for. In short, $10 a month gets you old, dirty equipment that often has an "out of order" sign on it (no, seriously, expect to see "out of order" EVERYWHERE). The "trainers" sit around and act like a bunch of hard ***es. Honestly, I have no idea how have any of them make a living - have never seen them get up and actually train someone. Dont expect a friendly "hello" out of anyone at the desk (trainers included). Theyre too busy staring at themselves in the mirror, or browsing the internet.

This club is poorly managed! Dirty! Broken Equipment! Staff needs to step in and let members know when they are using the Equipment improperly! You should not see or hear/feel full stacks of weights hitting the ground uncontrolled! There are some members that must have done some time in jail that misuse & abuse these very expensive machines! The machines are taking a beating! Cable crossovers feel like they are loaded with 100lbs when only 5lbs is selected! Dirty towels thrown around everywhere! Not to mention.... The free weights do not get returned to the weight tree! What a mess of a club! Best advice to the Manager/Owner! Control the EGO lifters! This will benefit all members! Best advice to members....Go somewhere else!!!!

I agree with one of the other reviewers that this facility was so much better when it was owned/operated by Cardinal Fitness. The staff is overall okay, but the customer service overall is nothing exceptional or that stands out. The facility is kind of dark and in the winter, there are issues with moisture as the windows sweat, so it has to be something with the ventilation system. I enjoyed this center so much when it was in the location next to Chase and housed in a standalone building. It was spacious, bright and cheerful with tons of windows and no ventilation issues. The general manager is arrogant and its a turnoff. Just overall dont like this location.

Charter has a courteous staff, that provides me with a clean environment. I also use the personal trainers at this facility. The trainers are very knowledgeable and has provided me with a meal plan and routine that has yielded results. Along with my sheer determination and willingness to trust the process Ive lost 2 dress sizes in less than two months. Overall I recommend using this facility to get in shape and live healthy! Michael A (Gym manager) has trained me personally and has a degree in this area; Hes very knowledgeable about the body and how it responds to the foods we eat....as well as how to effectively use the equipment!
