I am crying. I just spent all day (10:45 am-4:30 pm) here---AND MY CUT IS WRONG!!! I need to preface my review by stating that I have been to 4 other cosmetology schools before this, so I am very aware of the need to spend several hours there as well as the possibility of my hair being done wrong and not having the option of a refund. However, I have never seen an INSTRUCTOR who clearly had no clue how to cut my hair. I had Kristie as my stylist, and she was fantastic. She took time to understand what I wanted and to help me figure out the best action for todays appointment. Instructors Shaun and Anna checked on us to make sure things were moving along as they were supposed to. Kristie did my color first, which turned out great. Yeah it took several hours because my hair is so long and because its a school so students are still learning, but I expected that so no big deal. Then it came time for my cut. Kristie asked instructor Anna to help start her off. It both amazed and terrified me when Anna, the INSTRUCTOR, seemed to be having a difficult time trying to figure out how my layers were cut. Thats when I knew my cut wasnt going to turn out the way it should. I had already told Kristie how short I wanted it, and she told Anna that several times. However, Anna apparently misinterpreted both me and Kristie. Anna was also extremely rough with my hair, yanking and pulling on the tangles without even a cursory glance at the wincing and grimacing I was doing in the chair. My scalp is *still* tender from the encounter! Once Kristie was done drying my hair and I got to look at it, I almost cried right there in the chair. And Kristie was apologetic because she knew thats not what I was looking for and not what Id described. Anna came over once she saw we were done and asked me how everything turned out. I told her the color was good, but the cut was not what I had described. She then corrected me, saying I was just looking at it the wrong way (from the front instead of the back). When I told her I HAD looked at it from the back, she then had nothing to say and merely told me Kristie would help me get checked out. No apology. No offer to fix it. No acknowledgement whatsoever from Anna, an INSTRUCTOR, that she had indeed messed up my hair!! I almost wish Kristie had just attempted it by herself--she seemed to have a good grasp on what I wanted and a decent knowledge of techniques that Im tempted to think she may have done a better job than her instructor did. I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this school and I am still trying to decide whether I want to risk coming here again. I used a Groupon this time and already bought another before coming today, but Im seriously considering returning the unused Groupon. If I had paid full price today, I wouldve blown up at the waste of my time and my money, as well as the blatant lack of disrespect FROM AN INSTRUCTOR for me as a customer.

Student: My experience here is kind of dismal. I believe that this school is all about just money. I havent really learned anything since being here. They enroll so many students into the program where the classrooms and clinic floor are packed. There is no room for learning when there are so many people in the classroom. I wouldnt encourage anyone to attend this location. You may want to attend the Chicago location (corporate owned). This school will make you spend money on plastic Paul Mitchell cups in order to drink your beverages on the floor. Drinking hot beverages out of a plastic cup is not healthy. The skill cards that they give you are poorly written with typos: (i.e. course instead of coarse when describing hair texture). They make you pay money to wear clothes outside of the black dress code in the name of fundraising (yeah fundraising the owners pocket). They give you worksheets to complete with various hair assignments that have to be completed in a month. How can you do that when you are on the floor making the school money on services that are not on your worksheet. I give this school two stars because some of the learning leaders are okay and the manager is a nice person. I suggest anyone going into cosmetology school to go to a junior college or going to Vidal Sassoon.

This was such a great experience. Melena did an amazing job creating a whole new look for me. They really take the time to ask you questions to make sure youre getting what you want. I will probably never go back to paying full price for a haircut. The only thing I would caution against is going here if youre in a hurry. Because the stylists are learning, it takes time for the instructor to map out and critique every step of the process, which was totally fine with me, but if I had thought it through, I would have realized that it would probably take a bit longer than a regular trip to the salon. So, if time is not a factor for you, definitely give them a try.

Paul Mitchell School in Tinley Park is such a refreshing environment. Along with friendly skilled instructors and students. You will not be disappointed going here. It much relaxing environment then the school in Chicago. As a first time client in Tinley Park in September 2014. I was so extremely happy with the relaxeler I had done at the school. I was fearful because of a past bad experience in another salon. But they totally calmed my fears and gave me excellent service. I would highly recommend making appointment for your hair salon needs here.

Its usually been a nightmare trying to find a stylist who can cut curly hair well. But Gretchen did a wonderful job. I usually can find one thing that makes me unhappy about my cut whenever someone cuts my hair, but I cant find a single thing not to like when Gretchen cut my hair. I am over the moon and thrilled with my cut and color and I most definitely will be coming back. Gretchen is so talented and I think I found a forever stylist. You go girl.

This was my first time here & the end results for the price was worth it. Knowing you have a student doing your hair, who needs teacher reflection at each step, make sure you allow more time than usual. My future stylist & her instructors did a good job & they taught me a tip I can do at home too! I got a full color, cut & style & Im happy with it. I plan on coming AGAIN & trying something different each time.!

My niece Whitney Ripley is about to finish school in couple of weeks and has loved her experience at Paul Mitchell. We are so excited for her to graduate and apply all of the skills that she has learned throughout her experience there. Thanks Paul Mitchell the school Tinley Park for teaching her the skills that she has acquired to go out into the real world :)

Ive been coming to Trendsetters to get my hair colored for a number of years. Ive always left extremely happy with the end result. Was here on Saturday and was lucky to get Melena who was super attentive and made sure I was well taken care of. She listened to what I wanted. The color, highlights, and cut were perfect, exactly what I wanted! I know Ill be back.
