I called Midwest Lock and Security to have a key that I already had cut and programmed for a Nissan Versa. Whoever I talked to on the phone said it would be no problem and quoted a really good price($50 compared to the $100 the place in Ames where I live was going to charge). Well worth the drive from Ames to Des Moines and back. I made the trip today (about a week after calling) and upon arriving, was told that it wasnt possible to program my key because Nissan wouldnt allow it on some of their cars (sounded odd to me that Nissan still wouldnt allow a 2009 car to be programmed by a third party). So I made another call.... To Mikes Metro Lock & Safe. He said it would be no problem, and met me about 10 minutes later and got it done just like he said. Moral of the story... Just call Mikes Metro Lock and Safe first. The guy at Midwest Lock and Security did offer me some cash to make up for driving to Des Moines for nothing, and thats why they got 2 stars I read of 1.

I ordered 5 deadbolts at a cost of $800 plus tax. Fortunately they did not ask for a deposit. Two weeks later, still not done and more excuses. "Keys are here, but locks arent. Locks are here, but keys are not. Deadbolt shells are here, but cylinders went to a previous job". And on and on and on. I told them today to forget it. They offered today to deliver them at no cost when they are ready (I already wasted 3 trips of 15 miles one way). Yes, I could have called this time, but I wanted to teach myself a lesson.....they were definitely promised 4 days ago, so I gave a 4 days buffer to be sure. I declined. When would that ever be? I rightfully got tired of waiting and hearing excuses. Based on my experience, I will never go there again. I want to deal with a locksmith I can trust. Trust is zero with these folks. Nice people to talk to, but thats it.

I have roadside assistance and when I placed my request they send Midwest Lock to come to unlock my vehicle doors. They were not able to get my doors open (may I add after I waited three hours for someone to show up) They told me I had to take my car to a mechanic to get the doors unlocked. Instead of taking their advice to tow my car to a mechanic (since I was locked out I could not drive it to one) and asking the mechanic to unlock my doors I decided to try another locksmith company. The other company was at my location in 30 minutes and had my doors open in less than 5.

I have had a terrible experience with these folks. I received a written quote on a new lock system in the amount of $2,760. When their installation specialist came to install, he re-assessed the job at an ADDITIONAL $2,000. This amount was far beyond my budget, so I asked for a refund of the 50% I had paid on the original quote. I was then told that only $400 would be refunded because Midwest was unable to return their parts. So, what I got for the $1380 I paid to Midwest was absolutely nothing! I would neither use them nor recommend them as a lock specialist.

After losing a whole ring of my keys I had Midwest come out and re-key my whole house and my truck. The person who answered the phone was very knowledgeable and was able to provide me with an estimated cost. They were the cheapest of all the places I called. I was able to be put on the schedule the next day. When the tech arrived he did a complete walk-through and gave me a total cost before starting the work. It took the guy less than 2 hours to do my whole house and the truck! I would absolutely recommend them to anyone and everyone I know.

Had the rudest guy ever named Jeff come to my apt. I was in the bathroom sick and had my phone on silent; I missed some calls and called him back asap and he continued to thank him for ruining his time ! I will never get service from those jerks again ! If you want to work hard then do it but dont make everyone else miserable.

Great service and friendly staff! Theyve made a bunch of specialty keys for me, including chip/transponder keys, and keys for a vintage motorcycle. They even identified that a hardware store used the wrong blank on key for my Jeep, and re-cut it properly. They are now my go-to locksmith, and I trust them for everything.

I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE OWNER AND THE GENTLEMEN ON THE PHONE YELLED AT ME AND COMPLETELY WENT CRAZY OVER THE PHONE. SEEMS LIKE HE HATES HIS JOB AND DOESNT WANT TO BE THERE. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, NASTY AND RUDE TO CUSTOMERS. I WOULD NEVER EVER USE THEIR SERVICE AND IN ADDITION ,SUGGEST EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME.

Owner is one of the most knowledgeable locksmiths in Des Moines. I use Midwest Lock mainly for making keys so I dont get locked out of stuff when accidents happen. They were even able to make a key for my 1966 Ford Bronco when all I had was a lock cylinder.

My company needed a truck re-keyed recently. I called Midwest Lock and Security and they came right out. The service was great and the technician was very professional. I will call them again should the need arise.
