McNiel is by far the best mechanic Ive every worked with for three reasons--Hes candid, fiscally honest, and extremely thorough. I can tell you from my own 10 years of experience with him that Mike sleuths out your issues and can give you a great breakdown of the problem, what it will take to fix it, and if its honestly worth investing in at all. Mikes immense knowledge of cars--foreign and domestic, scooters, trucks, and parts come through in the strategic way that he can repair automobiles. Not only is he revered by his long-time customers, Mike has earned the respect of the Iowa City repair industry. As Noah at Professional Muffler once said of Mike, "Hell make your problem, his problem!" Mike is tireless in working closely with local stores and salvage yards to pass savings on to you. Over the years, Mike must have saved me thousands with preventative care in diagnosing flutters before they became more expensive failures. In addition, Mikes rescued me from the untold frustration of committing my hard-earned money on a lemon. As a result, Ill consult him before I purchase any car--new or used. While I admit, 00.00 is not his hourly rate, your total cost will feel less that the work was worth--how can you levy a price on integrity? Point blank, I trust the man. If he was ever to rename his shop, Id recommend he aptly title it the "Car Whisperer." When the honeymoon is over at your dealership, when your wifes car has the hiccups, if youre a student ready with tow but dont know where to go, call ahead to Mike and tell him Shanti sent you.

Thank god theres still an honest man in this world. Mike McNiel has solved a handful of auto problems for me and Ive always walked away satisfied, relieved and less generally cynical about the world of auto repair than I walked in. My work has always been done in a reasonable amount of time and for a reasonable price. In part because Mike has great about researching availability of used parts. By looking into sources for a used starter, I ended up getting my car running for under a third of what some other mechanics in town wanted. Also, everyone Ive interacted with there has been genuinely nice and a pleasure to work with.

We love Mike McNiels auto repair. The owner and operator, Mike, is by far the most efficient and economical mechanics Ive ever worked with. He has the cheapest oil change rates I know of and he uses the old oil from cars to heat his garage in the winter. When I go to him with problems, I often leave with charges of less than $10. In four years of service, hes never over-quoted us. Once it turned out that the damage he repaired had been more extensive than hed realized, and he only charged us for half his labor because of what he termed his "mistake." Great guy, great garage.

Mike McNiel is the REAL deal! He is an honest man who truly is there to help you with your car needs. He is the most fair-priced & hardest working. Not only will he fix it, hell help you with temporary fixes if you need a little extra time to save up for a bigger job. Hes a diamond in the rough of Iowa City. As a woman, I appreciate walking in and not being treated as if I am stupid. I cannot tell you how many mechanics in this town have talked down to me. He tells it like it is with no lecture whatsoever. I will ONLY go to him from here on out, and you should too!

Mike fixed everything at half the price I was quoted by others. I just had him give me new breaks. I had someone else quote me $300 for the front and back breaks to be replaced. Mike did it for about $120 and informed me the rear breaks looked fine and the front breaks werent as bad as the first shop told me. The problem had to do with the caliper not sliding correctly due to a build up of rust. Its nice to have a real mechanic look at your car and not just someone who will replace something they cant fix. Thanks again Mike!
