Shady business practices. My fiancé and i were planning on cancelling our membership. We were originally told we had to pay a $250 fee to cancel, or a $125 fee to cancel if we had proof of an address change. We decided to transfer our membership to a family member after being told that it was free. Once we sat down with the manager to transfer, we found out there was a $50 transfer fee, and come to find out the $125 fee was a lie. The manager said there wasnt any such thing as a lower cancellation fee for proving we moved. After the transfer was done we were continually charged for our membership. I talked to the manager at this location and he ensured me that the charge was a mistake and the money would be refunded to our account in a week. After two weeks went by with no sign of the money being reimbursed, I called the manager again. At this time he told me that we wouldnt be getting our money back. I called corporate to find out how there could possibly be so many misconceptions about how to transfer a membership. So now weve paid for two months of our membership without being able to use it. Corporate was no help and informed me that the manager filled out the paperwork with the incorrect date and there was nothing more they could do. Were now working with our bank to dispute the charges. Save yourself all the trouble of working with this terrible establishment. Sign up at a local community center. Much cheaper and the workers actually care about you.

This experience is mostly referring to the gyms customer service. The gym itself is incredibly nice, and I probably would have joined had I not been treated the way I was. I currently am a member at Planet Fitness but am looking to switch to a gym with more amenities when my contract expires. Someone from Genesis came into my place of employment offering 30 free days for our staff to come try them out, no strings attached. I figured this was a good opportunity to try somewhere new before I commit to a new contract. However, after being shown around, the man trying to sell me a membership basically tried to force me into it. He told me I could only be offered a promo today, I said that was fine I already have a gym membership and Im fine with paying full price in a few months, he told me that it really isnt that bad to be paying two gym memberships at once and that my current gym is so cheap hed even pay for it himself just so I would sign here. I work out with my mom at PF and wasnt sure if she wanted to switch to here as well in a few months and wanted to talk to her, and he insisted I call right then and there so we could sign even though she was at work. He kept repeating "what do I have to do to get you to sign today?" I will not be back, not even for any other free workout. Incredibly uncomfortable situation.

"Super" is an overstatement. Fun fact: the gym is an old movie theater. The only thing "super" about gym is the name, which was carried over from the 24 hour fitness chain that used to operate the business. Is it worth your $50/month? Not even close! Planning to work out after work? Give it up! There is a line for every piece of weight equipment. The gym layout is awkward, the workout space is cramped, and the building feels run down. The racquetball courts and basketball gym are nice features, but the complimentary equipment is completely worn out (basketballs are warped badly enough to bounce sideways and racquets are bent and have no rebound). Dont expect an increase in quality or a discounted membership rate anytime soon. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * A word to the folks at Genesis: youre not even close to the quality of a similarly-priced chain like Lifetime Fitness. Improve or lower your prices. * * * * * * * * * * * * It is worth noting that the people who work at the gym are great. The organization for which they work (Genesis), is not.

As a new member of this gym I hate to regret my decision to sign a one year contract with this location/company. I come to the gym three days a week. I begin my workout with a quick warm up and then hit the weights. I have observed over the past three weeks that NONE of the cardio machines have been wiped down or cleaned. (I have pictures to prove this). I am beyond disgusted on how this gym is kept up. Dont even get me started on the bathrooms. The fact that I have to wipe down the machines and stare at skin cells, hair and dust particles while Im working out is a major disappointment. I pay $45 a month which is the same that I paid at my previous gym One Light and this gym comes nowhere near its competition. Im counting down the days until my membership is up and will be transferring back to my previous gym and drive 20 miles to enjoy my workout without wishing I had a mask and gloves on while I worked out.

Probably the worst company known to mankind. I am surprised they are still open as they dont follow the contracts you sign and completely disregard what is put on it. I paid a start up fee over 100 dollars. Which covered first month and last month. Went to the Olathe one for over a year. (The one they bought from Golds) Raised the prices without my consent and then I didnt even have anywhere to go then unless I paid more money. Canceled my contract and they are still charging me... Call and try and talk to the manager?!?! Just as well be called a floor sweeper as they have no idea how the company actually works. Send me to corporate office-Another person who has no idea how the company works. So i guess Ill keep getting charged until I cancel my bank account... I wouldnt suggest this place to my most hated enemy!

I enjoy the gym fine and it meets my needs. My one continuous complaint has to do with the tvs in the mens locker area. A particular customer comes in on a regular basis and grabs a remote and changes the sports station to Fox News and then immediately disappears from the locker room and spends the next 1-2 hours on the floor or in the wet area, leaving the rest of us to listen to the rubbish that Fox News puts out. Ive mentioned my displeasure to him to no avail. I have also complained numerous times to management at the location. My preference would be MSNBC but, out of respect for peoples different perspectives, I would never put that station on one of the tvs. Keep it on ESPN and dont allow anyone to change those stations. This applies to the Shawnee Mission Parkway site, not the one on Metcalf and 119th.

I have been a member since 2004 at the south Ovèland Park location. During my last visit I noticed the treadmills and the men"s showers were in the dirtiest condition I have ever seen. These arears are disgusting to look at much less using them. They used to employ cleaning staff during the daytime shift to keep all areas clean. Apparently no longer and it shows. The dry sauna has been been closed for maintenance during my last three visits in about a weeks time. Seldom a hello upon arriving and no courteous goodbyes. I hate to write this bad of a review but my hope is management will take note and improve the cleaniness and overall experience soon. The condition of this gym is very poor.
