Ive been going to Freedom for a while, but today was the last straw for me. The ONLY pro about this gym is the $10/month membership fee. If you are even a moderately serious weightlifter the benefits end there. Almost half of what should be the weight room is taken up by treadmills, ellipticals and bikes, even when there is a whole other room dedicated to them. There are never enough people using them at one time to justify that many. There is ONE freaking squat rack in the whole place, so if that is taken you might as well take your place in line cause there are normally several other people waiting on it. ONE incline bench and no decline unless you want to move the one free decline bench to a smith machine and spend 5 minutes making sure it is lined up properly. No 35 lb. plates, only good place to deadlift is right behind the squat rack, which most of the time means that barbell is not available for people who want to squat because they have no extra barbells, and dumbbells only go up to 75s. Now for the staff. A couple of trainers I have spoken to seem nice, but if you know anything about fitness at all you can trump most of these people. I was trying to do lying ham curls today on the ONE machine they have in the whole place, but instead a trainer had two guys constantly rotating between that, leg extensions, and calf raises for like 10 sets each! Are you kidding??? Was that their entire workout for the day??? Didnt even offer to let me jump in between sets for the 2 sets I had to do. But this is typical of most of the training staff I have seen, taking up equipment that other people need to use, and often have their trainees use it in some ridiculous way. If you consider yourself even a mediocre weightlifter or are considering hiring a personal trainer, take your money elsewhere.

**The pros**: Freedom Fitness has a beautiful facility with lots of neat stuff. They do have some good prices, at least from what I have gleaned. I really like the blackout room. **The cons**: Although they boast being a 24-hour gym, they really are not. I selected this gym because I work two jobs and need to work out late at night before bed, but when I showed up Saturday night at 10pm, they were closed. After driving 20+ minutes to get there, I ended up having to run around the park at night to get exercise. And their parking lot sucks to get into thanks to a hwy exit ramp running past their front door. Additionally, while classes are included in the cost of a VIP membership, you have to sign up 48 hours in advance to get in them. And they dont mention that they dont count Friday through Sunday as actual days. So if you want a class on Monday, you have to tell them by Weds the week before. Im new to the fitness world and havent had any luck even getting into a "drawing board" class, so Im relying on advice from friends to get me started. Thats not what I paid for. **Summary**: I am rethinking my gym membership, which sucks for someone like me because if I quit, its done. The gym environment is already intimidating enough for me, and I have not found a safe haven in FF if I cant even get in there in the first place. I feel like they were very eager to get my money, but now Im learning that I didnt get the truth up-front, and nobody is in the least bit apologetic or interested in keeping me as a member.

Nice you can choose 9.95 or a 19.95 membership that includes bringing a guest and tanning. Thats the end of what makes Freedom Fitness good. The main area is crowded, the womens section is comprised of what I am thinking is the equipment that was replaced from the main area, and there is not a complete set of weights in the womens section. The tanning beds are dirty and usually broken. Asked one of the employees about the dirty tanning beds and she said two employees must remain at the desk at all times, and so they could not insure the tanning beds got cleaned. I think they maybe reportable to the health board??? So if you are looking to work out in a crowded dirty gym Freedom Fitness is the place for you.

It is HELL trying to cancel membership. I HAD TO GO THROUGH MY BANK AND GET THEM TO CANCEL MY CARD> THEY WONT WORK WITH YOU! I HATE HATE IT... You need to provide proof or moving to a city other than Lubbock and pay $75 dollars. That is the only way of getting out of this!! Suzzane from Freedom fitness is very rude and she is the one who decides wether you get out of this contract or not. I do not recomend. IT has taken me weeks to try to get someone to cancel my membership. First they told me to go talk to a manager now they tell me if i dont provide proof of moving or proof of being sick or death Im stuck with it... Then to call them and leave a voice mail they will never return. It is such a mess.

When I found out that this company was bought by bodyworks I should have cancelled my membership immediately. These people are only concerned with their bottom line only. They incorporate Gestapo like collection tactics...they sneak in fees without communicating with the customer...and they have zero regard for customer service. If you are considering a gym membership here, I highly advise against it. I have brought this gym many customers, and now I sincerely regret having recommended them. Any gym on Lubbock, TX is better than freedom fitness or bodyworks.

Hands down, the best bang for your buck in town. However thats where my praise ends. the gym is bland and uninspiring. The motivation ends when you enter the gym end realize that this place is the go to place for Tech kids to congregate. only time to get a decent work out in are over nights outer in the mornings to early afternoon otherwise cramp central. There are more expensive alternatives in town..better facilities and what not, in the end you get what you pay for.

Trying to cancel my account for months. They do not work with you. They said my account was cancelled, only for me to be charged the next month. When i called they said it was cancelled. But when i spoke to someone in charge they said it wasnt. They said my proof of movement wasnt satisfactory. So I said just cancel it and charge the cancelation fee. We were charged, then the next month they charged us again for the stupid membership! Worst customer service ever!

Completely worthless!! Stole money from me for months after they trapped me into a "one year contract." They never tell you that you have to CANCEL the contract after 12 months OR they KEEP CHARGING YOU. Awful customer service and frankly, that is lying and stealing. Sure its on the dumb contract when you sign it but its in tiny print and they make sure not to mention it to you until you catch them and still keep your money. Terrible.

They refuse to allow me to cancel over the phone, charging me continuously and saying that despite my verification of my account over the phone, I have to send a LETTER WITH A SIGNATURE (which somehow reflects my will better than me stating that Im tired of getting charged and that I havent used their gym in months). They are almost as hard as cancelling Comcast or something.
