SCAMMERS! What a complete and utter joke this particular PF is! In a nutshell, I joined as a secondary gym in the portland area, paid all monthly dues in good faith, canceled after 13 months, was later told that they had no paper work on file referencing my cancelation. I then canceled a second time. Today, THIRTEEN months later, I received a text from the PF Marginal Way main # stating that I had an unpaid balance. I immediately called for an explanation. Ashley, the general manager told me that they didnt have any record of either cancellation form and further explained that her office cancelled my membership internally for non-payment and that the outstanding balance must be paid otherwise it would be sent to collections. When I asked if she could locate either of the TWO cancelation forms PF should have on file, she proceeded, much to my dismay, to tell me that they dont keep those records/files available and that I would personally have to locate the yellow "customer duplicate" to prove my claim that I had indeed physically and officially terminated my PF account/membership, otherwise I would in fact be responsible for the unpaid balance. I hung up went to the basement and dug through four boxes of paperwork until I finally located my duplicate copy of my membership cancellation form. Determined to bring this ongoing ridiculousness to an end, I spent the next 30 minutes trying to get through to the PF desk, only to get busy signal after busy signal. I called again and again until it finally rang, only to have the PF staff member hang up the phone just as quickly as they had picked it up. This happened 4 times until finally someone picked up the phone and actually acknowledge me. Once Ashley took my call I explained to her that I had indeed located the form in question and that I was really disappointed in the way my situation was handled. Ashley unapologetically went on to say that it was the former staff and management who had "failed to properly do their job". What?! Seriously?! This coming from the "new" manager who, just like her predecessors, was unwilling to acknowledge PFs repeated clerical failures or that I was indeed representing the facts of the matter. The same "new and improved" manager that kept insisting that the burden of proof was on me and me alone. Long story short, this place is and has always been a "hot mess". If youre considering a fitness center/gym in the Portland area and truly care about the health and security of your credit/financial standing, then do yourself a big favor and steer clear from the Marginal Way Planet Fitness location before they cause you any irrepressible financial harm!

I never used their gym but they charged me anyway. The girl at the counter was too busy talking to her boyfriend to give me a tour, so I assumed "its a big facility, Im sure they have everything a normal gym has" and just signed up. I went to work out and found that they have no squat rack, nowhere to bench barbells that isnt a smith machine, and not even a bar to do unassisted pullups. It is like it isnt even a real gym. So within ten minutes I go back to the desk and say "Im sorry, this place isnt right for me I dont need a membership after all". This much would be fine. It seems like a nice enough place if you just want to use cardio machines or whatever, I would have nothing mean to say about them. But, she said she refunded my card and she didnt. Then, for the past two months I have been calling the manager, and stopping in, and every time they say they will get back to me about fixing it and they never do. It isnt even about the measly $40 but the principle. This is a huge company and yet they spent 2 months giving me the runaround about refunding me for the membership I never used.

Youre probably tempted to ignore me as an outlier as a reviewer. All I can say is take my advice or you could face the same BS I have. This is a company that exists entirely off of screwing people in the small print, poor customer service, and lack of competition. 1. They have tons of machines. Sadly, most of these machines are in a state of disrepair. 2. They have in their fine print a minimum duration of membership, which they do not highlight. 3. They do not allow you to quit via telephone, only in person, or in print. 4. They dont tell you that when you quit in print, you need to pay a cancelation fee. Thus when you cancel in print, you do not cancel, because you havent paid the cancelation fee. 5. When you go in and ask to quit, and ask for your money back after quitting in print, they claim they called you and told you about the cancelation fee. They didnt, and they wont show you proof. 6. After you acquiesce and give up on getting your money back, and you pay the cancelation fee, they continue to bill you.

I am not a huge fan of gyms in general. However, there is a lot of equipment and everyone keeps to themselves which helps me continue to go. Motivation is a challenge for me so when I recently decided to bring my tablet to watch video on Amazon Prime, it was a disappointing surprise to find out that this location does not have WiFi. Im sorry Marginal Way Planet Fitness but the No Judgment Zone does not extend to you. Find your way to the 21st century and you might find another selling point to help those of us that need motivational juice. I lose track of time on the cardio machines if I can occupy my mind and go home feeling like I did something great and really do want to go back the next day. You could have earned 5 stars from me with WiFi.

People should never trust Planet Fitness in Portland ME and giving them preauthorization to charge the membership fee from your bank acct.!!!!!!! After my ex-husband cancel the Planet Fitness membership paid though my checking acct while we were still married, my acct still get charged monthly for $19.99, I called and complained, they said they cant talk to me since my ex-husband was the one had the membership, so I paid 35.00 dollars to my bank to stop payment for the membership charge, the payment was stopped for 6 mo. and then my acct get changed for 19.99 again!!! This was going on for the last three years! this is stealing!

I have been attempting to cancel my membership for roughly six months, even reaching out to corporate and no one will cancel my account. Every time I try to reach the manager she is not there or not available. My card continues to get charged each month. I wrote an email letter to corporate and called corporate three months ago to cancel, they forwarded it to the manager who called and left me one message saying she couldnt cancel until she spoke with me. This place is a fraud. DONT buy into the gimmick of $10 or $20 a month. They will rob you!

Its Planet Fitness, what else do you need to know? The layout is a bit different than other PFs Ive visited. The weight room is upstairs and all of the cardio machines are on the first floor. Theres limited room to stretch, and the parking (depending on the time of day) is not ideal. Some of the spots are for other area businesses, so be careful or you could get towed. The showers are okay, its a gym, you get what you pay for $10 a month. Crowded after work so avoid if you require space when you workout.
