PROS & CONS: I appreciate the cleanliness of the gym, the machine and free weight options, as well as the friendly staff. During the times I go (generally off-peak), World Gym is not overly crowded. However, I have five negative comments with regard to malfunctioning/broken equipment, lack of management response to ongoing problems, temperature of the womens dressing room, and the loud volume of the music. If a piece of equipment is not functioning properly, when you talk to management or staff, they will listen but sometimes they simply do nothing to solve the issue, even after being kindly reminded several times and allowed months or years to fix the problem. There is one piece of equipment widely used by members that has been broken for about three years. The fix is simple and inexpensive, and management is aware of it but does nothing. The womens dressing room is unacceptably cool most of the year. Management has heard about this problem from numerous members over the years but does nothing. Lastly, World Gym plays typically plays poor quality music LOUDLY (esp. loud in the womens locker room). If you have the misfortune to be working out near the cycling room, which BLARES its music with the door open, you will be exposed to two forms of loud music. For an establishment devoted to health, they should be aware that exposure this volume of music, especially for any length of time, does irreparable damage to hearing. I recommend they hire a local audiologist or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for a one-time visit to do an evaluation. I recommend people wear hearing protection. (Other issues with World Gym are minor, and I accept or overlook them because the membership rates are low and, therefore, some compromises are to be expected.)

This place has a great gym and there is a great group of people that go there, the staff are pretty friendly as well. However, on numerous occasions this place has wrongfully taken, or attempted to wrongfully take my money. I canceled my membership because my wallet was stolen from THEIR locker room, and the staff made no efforts to help me track it down. I canceled all of my cards and the card I signed up with was one of them. However, despite me cancelling my membership, I was charged at the beginning of next month anyway. I was informed that even though I had canceled at the beginning of January, I still had to pay for the following month of February. I also paid late fees because my stolen card was declined. A few months later I get another call from their collection agency, Twin Oak. They tell me that I now owe World Gym $40 more dollars, on top of the $31 that I already paid for a month in which I never once stepped foot in the gym. This $40 charge was a "maintenance fee" charged every February to annual members... mind you, I had a one month membership from December 10 or so until January 3, at which point I cancelled my membership. So now I was being charged for an annual maintenance fee for a membership to a gym that I had cancelled not even a month after signing up, and after all was said and done I had paid for 3 months of membership, plus late charges for the last month, and a $40 dollar "maintenance charge" for annual members, just to spend 3 weeks at a gym in December, only to have my wallet stolen out of their locker room. Moral of the story, great gym, but a great place to have money stolen from you (in various ways, theyre greasy.)

I looked at both Planet Fitness and World Gym. I was very worried about cleanliness at the latter based on the review below, but there is no difference in cleanliness from what I could tell between the two gyms. World gym is absolutely fine, its as clean as a gym would be. It has way more weights than Planet Fitness, but not as much cardio. So if you want to do the elliptical machine and thats it Id recommend PF. One squat rack? Are you joking me? Get some more weights!! I was also worried about hours based on that first review. There is not a big discrepancy. Basically World Gym closes an hour before PF (not a deal breaker in my book). In response to the second review, it appears that the plyo room is not for the gym public, you have to get personal training to get in there. I ultimately chose world gym, which is what Id recommend if youre wanting to lift weights at all.

Management is terrible at this gym. Responds poorly to feedback about the lack of cleanliness in the gym, continuously broken equipment, and cancellation of classes that members like. They frequently get rid of good instructors and the classes they keep are outdated. Basically, it seems as though they couldnt care less about their customers, because with their low rates they are always pretty full, with a large young crowd. I have noticed a good many of the regular members are no longer putting up with it and have left, as have I.

Overall, this is a great gym. It’s always being changed/upgrading, and new equipment is added regularly. There is lots of equipment so there is never a wait. There are a lot of classes offered. I dont really take them, but they seem to be popular. The tanning beds arent very strong, but you shouldn’t tan anyway. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean. That being said the mens locker room can be kind of gross. It always seems dirty around the toilet area. But for $ 15.00 a month you really cant nitpick.

I have been going to this gym for about 6 months and I am about to cancel my year long membership, I have been a member of 4 different gyms previous to this and I have never been to a place so unclean! The toilets and showers are NOT clean, the steam room smells terrible and the mats are visible dirty. Other members I talked to have had similar complaints. The hours are also limited compared to other local gyms. Overpriced and understaffed!

Place hasnt been updated in 3 years. The locker rooms always reeks of ass. I canceled my membership and they tried to charge me additional money after I was no longer there and immediately sent it to a collection agency. Why not just give me a friendly call? No professionalism

This place has the worst customer service in the world and I will never be obtaining a membership from this establishment again. The gym staff needs some serious updating if they want to gain any customers.

Decent price and they have most of what you want for powerlifting but they only have one oly platform with cheap bumber plates. Would have liked to see 3 platforms with higher quality bars and weights.

Cardio equipment is consistently out of order making them full all the time. Staff seems unconcerned and doesnt mark equipment as unsafe even after being notified.

I love World Gym in Portland so much! I have had memberships at Planet Fitness and Anytime Fitness and World Gym is by far my favorite.
