It pains me to write this review, but I think at this point it has to be done. Ive been going to Main Ingredient/Main & Market regularly for brunch for about five years now. The service has always been spotty, but when we went for a special birthday brunch this past Saturday the service was beyond bad. First, one of our partys order was never put in so while the rest of us were eating they went without. The meal was finally delivered as the rest of us were finishing up. Apologies were offered but nothing else. The real problem started when we asked for our checks. We had asked the waitress when we ordered to keep our checks separate---five in total with eight guests. When she brought the final bill and we asked again for it to be separated she was clearly annoyed. It took THIRTY MINUTES for her to break out the checks. First she brought three of the same check. Then she swiped one credit card for two different checks. She was a disaster. Bottom line, the food here is good but not great. There are so many other options now for breakfast/brunch with staffs that actually WANT to serve. This regular customer is going to find a new spot at which to become a regular.

I like to patronize my town and enjoy what it has to offer. We chose to eat out Saturday night at the Main Ingredient. The food was great, the service was fine, but the seating was very poor. Heads up: do not allow them to seat you at the booth that is directly in front of the front door. Everytime someone came in or went out, a big rush of chilling air came in and made our dining experience unpleasant. People came and went all night of course, and many opened the doors for others and although it was very polite on their part, it was causing us to be very cold, and our dinners were cold almost immediately after being served. We told our waitress, and she apologized. She said shed monitor the door (what does that mean?), but didnt offer to reseat us, or help the matter any. We spent over $100 and the dining experience was unpleasant because of this matter.

My mom insisted on taking me and the kids here for Sunday brunch. Glad we went! The menu was rather short: breakfast sweets and omelets mostly. But there were tons of options to dress them up. The kids enjoyed light delicious pancakes, scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. While I tried a spinach, ham and onion omelet accompanied by hash browns (not greasy at all) and wheat toast that was crisp on the outside and soft inside. The fresh squeezed orange juice was delicious. Im pregnant and didnt expect the orange juice to go down so smoothly. But it was so sweet and gentle I had 2 glasses! The food is simple, tastes great and doesnt feel like a brick lying in my tummy. Oh, the portion sizes are generous too.

The food at the Main Ingredient is awesome! I live in the area and for a while I was at The Main Ingredient several times a week! I havent had a bad meal ever! On the weekends for dinner, the food is like eating at a high end 5 star restaurant because of the Chef Specials. A little pricier for dinner, but worth it. Im a vegetarian and I eat fish and there is plenty to eat at the Main Ingredient! The only complaint I have is that sometimes the desserts are a little dry, but Ive figured out which ones arent (the flourless chocolate cake or any of their bundt cakes are moist as well). I highly recommend them!

I looked at the reviews today in the parking lot and thought I would stop in. Service was ok my waitress just was not very enthusiastic about being there. That is just coming from being in the food service industry before and also being a waiter that used to rely on tips. I got the MI burger that was good and seasoned good . It was a little under cooked I ordered med well and it was more like medium but I didnt mind. Everything was very fresh. Also very clean and modern space. I would of given it 5 stars if not for those little things and when Im in the area definitely eat there again. :)

I love MI food; however, the person who answers the phone to take carry out orders is very rude. Today I ordered two half salads. They menu read the salads come with Gorgonzola cheese, but when we got them, they had bleu cheese on them. I called to let her know and she told me "they are the same thing here". Well thats fine, but you should probably put it on the menu then. I was not rude at all about it and she was not nice nor apologetic. You have lost two customers due to your ignorance :)

We live in SC and we have our sons Graduation from the Naval Academy, we was in contact with Ms. Nanette Williams who sent us Mr. Mike Sipple to cook and serve at the party. We was so satisfied and pleased with the service, presentation and taste, not just our opinion, was a general conversation with our guests, and also how professional was miss Nanette with the whole process from start to end. I will recommend everybody this place, is excellent.

The Main Ingredient boasts a fairly thoughtful and eclectic menu with good portion control. It’s a very approachable and enjoyable way to have a something more interesting then meat and potatoes, but with out the pretence. That said, those with higher caloric requirements (athletes, younger men, etc…) are likely to find the experience less then satisfying. Service tends to be great (80%) or abysmal (20%). Price is inline for what it is in the area.

BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE/CELIACS. I have celiacs, and came here because its menu had many gluten free options. However, my gluten free salad came with a MUFFIN on it!!??? Their servers did not seem to have a good grasp about gluten free/celiacs options, even though it was market on the menu. My Ahi tuna salad tasted great, but I have been sick ever since

A triple-wide strip mall location with a bakery, cafe, and catering section. We went to the cafe for brunch. Pretty good food. Croissants were not that fresh and seemed to be heated up to serve, which made them too mushy. Eggs were great. Home fries were fried tater-tots which although tasty fell short of expectations for "home fries".

Whoever is answering the phones right now and taking to go orders is horrible. She was not kind on the phone and always talking over me. I only ordered two lunch sandwiches and she had to ask me several times what I originally ordered because she would not listen to me. I always have good food and very seldom do they mess up my order.

Their cakes are better than average, but do not...I repeat...DO NOT order them online, and make sure you get a sure confirmation from a sales person, or your cake plans will be ruined as mine were. I still use them, but my due diligence has to be inserted where theirs should be. Other wise, they would have received at least 4 stars.

I thought this was the best bakery in Annapolis but I think I will stick with Whole Foods. Very disappointed. The main ingredient makes their cakes from a boxed mix and their frostings and fillings all come pre-made just like the garbage you would find at Giant or Safeway but theirs is 3x the price.
