I have been several times to White Dog, mostly with family and friends. The atmosphere is elegant, yet very laid back and the food is excellent. High quality and fresh seafood are usually a requirement for me, and they always deliver. Besides the food, we like to indulge in some nice cocktails as that is a treat for us. My favorite is their Martinis, and they have different types of Gin that you cant often find anywhere else. We have also tried several new wines suggested by the owner, and those have always been a hit as well. In the summer, we love to be out on the outside patio and in winter we actually prefer to eat in the cozy bar by the fireplace, but all dining areas are quite nice.With an excellent chef, friendly waitstaff, and welcoming and engaging owners, the White Dog Bistro always makes for a wonderful experience!

The locals (born heres) wont eat here as far as theyre concerned the White Dog does not belong in Mathews. This is a good thing for a "come here" like myself it means I can get a table. Food is a little bit more pricey than Southwinds but you get upscale table service, menu changes to reflect what is available from local sources. Some seafood is brought in fresh from outside the area (there are no tuna in the Chesapeake Bay). Overall if you are looking for a wonderful dinner with an elegant atmosphere then you have found it. The White Dog is a favorite for out of town guest staying at the many rentals in the area. Lots of patrons drive down on Friday or Saturday evening from Richmond and Williamsburg to get out of the city and enjoy a well prepared dinner that will always please.

The bar and restaurant area was cozy and tastefully decorated. The hostess and server were kind , informative and didnt hover. The menu however is overwhelming. Our dishes had ingredients that didnt go together well such as pickled onions in the garden salad. The Lolli-chops advertised as 3 came in two with a heavy brown sauce that wasnt needed. There were too many selections on the wine and beer list and wines seemed somewhat over priced in general. White Dog is a lovely place but the chef needs to re-think and simplify the menu!!

Wonderful bar and food. Felt the wait staff had too many tables to provide the service one would expect to match level of food served. Our waiter was excellent, he just could have checked in more frequently. We sent a mixed drink back and it took 10-15 minutes for it to come back. We will go back and hope service improves and it was just an off night for therm

The white dog is amazing! They catered my wedding and were the reception venue. They also did my cake and desserts. The thing I appreciated the most about them was they are honest about what they think will be best for your wedding! They know what they are doing!!! If you want a wedding that is fun then choose the white dog.
