My family went to Something Different over the July 4th weekend. It was quite busy. There was a band playing and a lot of people at the bar. The hostess told us it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait. It was 7:15 pm so we decided to stay thinking we would have a table by 8 pm. Come 8 pm we were told it would be another 15 minutes and we kept hearing it would be another 15 minutes until we were finally seated at 9 pm. So we waited a freaking hour and 45 minutes to get a freaking table. Unbelievable! Once seated the music was so loud that we could not talk to anyone at our table of 8 other than to the person next to you. When the waitress came to take our order all of us had to shout our order to be heard. What I dont understand is why have a band? It only promotes guests to eat dinner and camp out at their table to listen to the band and only slows turning tables to people like us who waited forever for a table. The owners need to decide whether they are running a restaurant or a bar. We will never go back when there is a band playing! It was an awful experience!!! It was the worst night out that I can remember at any restaurant in my 50+ years. Something Different was Something Awful that night!

A truly great place in a truly great little town. The food is always delicious and portion size filling. But....but...the best thing about this place is that they are one of the few places on the East Coast that features my favorite treat from my California days....tri-tip roast! You can get an entree of this delicious beef cut or a sandwich. It is cooked perfectly and is a delight! I dont understand why this part of the cow is virtually unknown here, while in California it is easy to come by. It is also called triangle roast, but I would drive 100 miles out of my way just for the tri-tips!!!

Our family and friends took an overnight trip to Urbanna. We decided to dine on our boat because it was a beautiful night so we ordered entrees to go for all. Chicken and ribs, chicken and brisket, crab cakes, grill cheese, she crab soup.......it was all so delicious. It was more the we could eat so there was great left overs. We liked it so much we returned for breakfast. The Virginian is usually our go to breakfast place but....we wanted Something Different. Once again fantastic! and more than enough food.

Had a few friends hype this place up. The brisket sandwich didnt hold a candle to other, decent bbq places (kreggers in Ashland, VA, Carters Pigpen, Mechanicsville) The homeade potato crisps were delicious but skimpy on portion. The Mac & cheese was to die for, and the open face brisket melt sandwich was better than the plain brisket sandwich (but cheaper? How?) Will probably go for a plain bbq, or seafood style plate next time. The homemade ice cream desert retail attached is also very very tasty.

The Wife and I visited last night for the first time. We were greeted with the nicest hostess I believe I have ever encountered. It was homecoming night so it was busy and we waited for a while for a table however It was definitely worth the wait. The food was outstanding and was all homemade. My had the Tri tip sandwich to which the meat was incredible and I had the hamburger on their homemade bun which was very good. We are certain to return to try more of their menu. Thank you for a great meal!

Terrific, superb, absolutely delicious barbecue. We stopped on our way to the beach and bought pulled pork sandwiches at this charming old country store-style restaurant. The best sauce weve ever had. Cant say we liked the buns, however. Great selection of specialty sodas and imported beers, as well. Its a little hard to find-- it seems like youve taken a wrong turn down a green, residential backwood highway, but keep going and you cant miss it.

Wow, what a great place to eat. From the fresh limeaid, hot dog with applebutter, baked beans, tritip sandwich, shecrab soup, homemade ice cream, barbeque and the list goes on and on. The outside looks rough and the inside isnt much better but some how it all blends for the atmosphere of the place. The owners walk around handing out samples of various menu items and icecream. Worth the trip:)

like other reviewers said dont let old storefront dismay...inside youll find friendly hospitality & great food. locals eat there and are happy. the hot dog with apple butter is a real treat....id ask for double apple butter next time. i was almost attacked by a large stray dog in the parking lot who wanted my hot dog. despite the barking and menacing looks i said "sorry...too good to share."

Fantastic BBQ. I had the ribs and chicken. Kicken Chicken had an amazing taste, especially the hint of mustand as a base for the sauce. The place is a true country store turned BBQ and sandwich shop. Dont expect ritz and glitz, but a comfortable, old time feel. Dan Gill, the owner, explained the food, talked about his business and farm, and made for a fun and delicious side trip.

Did and service were excellent. There was a short wait were we got there on a Sunday afternoon. The loaded fries were just that. Loaded with shredded pork, bacon, cheese, peppers and tomatoes. The Southern Comfort sandwich was great as well with tender brisket and ham, melted pimento cheese and pickles. The homemade chips were just OK as was the ice cream. Overall, a great meal.

Were new to the area and a friend recommended we check it out. The minute we walked in we felt comfortable. The hostess was very friendly and seated us within five minutes. Soft shell crabs were the special and they were very good, followed by the large desert selection. We bought some of their home made ice cream to go. We plan to make it a regular lunch and dinner spot.

Pro:Went to Something Different to ear dinner after a day on the river for the first time. Excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. Con: ordered a sandwich and the meat was chewy but taste good. The sandwich came with chips. It was served with crumbs is chips not even 1/2 cup of chips..Very disappointing concerning the sandwich was $9

This place is amazing! Very "down home" family feel to the environment. But the food was incredible! Very creative menu! Some unique preparations of common food items, that made them some of the best I have had! Here are a few things that I really enjoyed - the beef tips, the crab cakes, and (believe it or not) the broccoli!

As a vegetarian foodie from New York City, I did.l not expect to find much for me on the Something Different menu, but while limited, there were some very good choices. Youll have to stick to sides and salads, but the chared broccoli was excellent and the hoecakes were delicious. (NB: green beans have meat in them)
