I am reluctant to do this because I understand the implications and possible consequences of doing so. I was employed by Pro Bar Serv last year as a bartender. I worked hard and took as many jobs as I could possibly take. In the five months I was there I was only late a few times and each and every time it was due to metro issues. Since most of the jobs were in the DC area I always carpooled when I could and given that parking was expensive and hard to find few people actually drove to sites. It was divulged when I was hired that I did not have a vehicle, but again this was never an issue. Given my experience in bartending and their need for experienced bartenders I was hired without having to go to their initial training (which I had missed anyway). They put me right to work and I loved the job. I got to work parties all over the DC area and it was quite an enjoyable experience. In late June of 2015 I had a headache that wouldnt quit. I had been getting them for a while but this one was worse. I went to Urgent Care and was rushed to the ER. It was at that time that I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. This was frightening and unbelievably stressful. Three weeks later I finally got a doctors appointment and was put on two different medications. Despite that I kept working and still took any jobs given to me. Since I had missed the first training session with PBS I was signed up to take the next one that took place on August 11th 2015. It was hot that day and I had to walk uphill quite a ways to get to where training was taking place. I had a nice time at the training, I had been doing everything they went over for months at that point so most of it was redundant, however I stayed the entire time and enjoyed seeing some of the coworkers. I felt everything went great and was looking forward to getting back to work. The next day Robert Gold, owner of PBS called me. He stated that he didnt feel I was a good fit because I had "sighed 19 times" during the training. He also said that he felt that since I didnt have a car that I couldnt be a reliable employee, despite the fact that it had NEVER, NOT ONCE prevented me from getting to a job. He then told me I was fired. I quickly responded that I had a brain tumor and his response was, "We cant have sick people working for us". I was devastated. I had just weeks before been told I have a brain tumor, and now I was losing the only job I had. I went over and over in my head what he was talking about regarding the sighing. I didnt sigh at the training, in fact I had had a nice time despite already being well schooled on how they operate. It was then that it occurred to me, I wasnt sighing, those "sighs" were yawns that stemmed from the medications I had just started taking less than two weeks prior. Both medications had "yawning" side effects and given that I wasnt used to it the yawns, or "sighs" were noticeable. I contacted several different attorneys as well as the Maryland Civil Rights commission and because Robert Gold had no knowledge of my health condition when he fired me there was nothing I could do. However all these months later his words, "We cant have sick people working for us" have stayed with me. How disgraceful to make an assumption and then fire someone on that assumption and then go on to belittle them on top of that. In the roughly five months I was there I had only garnered one complaint and when asked about this complaint I promised Robert Gold that it wouldnt happen again. To my knowledge there was never another complaint. The only times I was late was due to Metro issues and I was never the only one that didnt arrive late due to the same issues. Why am I writing this? Because I think its important to know the kind of person you are doing business with.

From ownership down to the new trainees everyone in this company is like family. PBS pays better than anyone and allows you whatever flexibility your schedule needs. Whatever you want this job to be it will be and whatever you hope to get out of it you will. The entire management team are genuine people who treat everyone fairly and who sacrifice so much for the success of the team. Theres a reason PBS is the staff at the finest hotels and top caterers in DC!
