I picked them because they were local expecting a quality neighborly service, but after 5 years of being a loyal customer I got cold indifferent treatment in the end when it mattered. I needed service for my home alarm. The previous house owner had an alarm system installed, so all they had to do was to configure the system and test it to work. The owner of ARM was friendly and quoted $25/month with 3 year contract over telephone service. ARM provided equipment support and sold the monitoring to a 3rd party company. I signed up and the technician spent a little bit of time to get everything going. At first I had Vonage, and everything worked (the technician had no idea if it would or not). Then I switched to Google Voice with Obi hardware as my telephone provider. You can ask any computer nerd and they know what it is, but ARM had no clue what it was or how to get it to work. So after googling around a little I figured out how to configure GV to work with my alarm system I continued to user ARMs monitoring services. Whenever I would call ARM asking to test my system, I would speak with a very unfriendly lady. She sounded so annoyed and rushed any time I called. I asked her how to test the dialing part of the alarm and she told me to trip the alarm, but there is a test call option in the alarm system that she knew nothing about even after I asked her about it. When Google announced that Google Voice wont be working any Obi devices, I switched to another VOIP provider. My daughter tripped the alarm a few months later but I didnt get a call back. This was due to new phone provider incompatibility with alarm system. Good thing it wasnt a real emergency. Again, absolutely no useful help from ARM. They have no technical knowledge about VOIP. I asked what it would take to get the service over wireless, and after a few emails/calls was finally able to get the owner on the phone to get options quoted. I got price ranges around $40/month. At this point I stared doing my own research and found that there are other of alarm monitoring services that will charge as low as $10/month. I decided to cancel ARM and go with a different company. I contacted ARM to cancel my service, and they told me that I have about 5 more months remaining on my contract. This is after 4.5 years that Ive been with them! They explained that they auto renew the contract after the initial 3 years for 1 year periods. I explained to them that I was not aware and its unfair of them to auto renew the contract, but they didnt care. I told them I wouldnt pay and they threatened to send the bill to collections. So, in the end, I just paid the remaining balance but I will never recommend their services to anyone! If you expect quality service or good value, look elsewhere. Dont fall for the "were a local mom & pop shop" sales pitch.

I would give it zero stars if that was possible. Alarm system unreliable. Customer service is poor. We were customers for over 10 years, and we were very happy for first few years. I am not sure if there was a change of ownership, personnel, or financial difficulties, but the decline was very disappointing. Shipped a wrong replacement part. The company did not seem to even know what system was installed (dont they keep records?) Alarm panic switch triggered, and no response. System power difficulties not registered. We were not even certain we were even being monitored. Would not recommend now, even though we had given past referrals. Even though we were well past the contract term, they continued to charge even though they were given notice before we moved. Shady company. They lied to the Better Business Bureau about trying to contact us after we filed a report. They did not. And they did not respond to letters written to them either. Very dishonest company.

Over the past five years, ARM Security has emerged as one of the fastest growing and top-rated security companies in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area and it has done so without losing the personal touch that only a locally-owned company can provide. ARM has kept on top of all the technological changes that have occurred in the security business, provides excellent and timely service, and has always been there when I’ve needed them. Based on my experience with ARM, it is easy to see why ARM has so many satisfied customers, including the U.S. Department of the Navy, Union Station, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. If you want an affordable, reliable, technologically advanced, and friendly company to protect your home or business, give ARM a call. You won’t regret it!

My experience with ARM security has been great ! I have had service with them for 15 years and counting with two different houses. Ive never had problems and if any updating of system was needed, the staff has always been helpful and made me a priority. Arm is locally owned and operated not like some of the "big" Alarm companies. Rates are competitive too. -Kevin

I called twice and the receptionist hung up both time while I was explaining what I needed. I dont know if she was getting prank calls and just confused me with the prankster, but I could hear the clank of the phone getting slammed down, so she was deliberately hanging up on me. Very strange behavior.
