I wanted to love this TOWSON club BUT...I have had too many issues with the swim program and Kids Club. 1. Movement class for kids, no one showed up to teach. 2. Private Swim lesson - showed up from first class to find that the instructor already had a student for that time period. Swim Program manager did not respond to my emails and phone calls. 3. Gave up and Signed kids up for group lesson online - no acknowledgement by email or on account page. Again Swim manager does not respond to phone calls. We arrived one day for our swim lessons - I bring 2 kids from daycare, dress them to swim, only to walk out to the pool to be told that it was closed due to thunder - REALLY, couldnt you have put a sign on the door. (I get email alerts when classes I dont even take are cancelled!) When I asked the front desk about the issue, they ignored that it could have been an inconvenience. (Cant I come back? Huhh - its a swim lesson.) Last weeks swim lesson, the instructor concentrated on the other two kids in the class and my swimmer was not given opportunity to try the swim skills in turn. Most of the class, she was left at the side of the pool. 4. On the day that the pool was closed I tried to let the kids play in the Kids Club - there were older children running around and up and down the play equipment. At one point the larger kid parked himself on the middle of the slide and challenged the kids coming after him to slide into him. My littlest was stuck at the top of the equipment. None of the young babysitters were old enough to handle the situation. We left because it was unsafe. We tried --- and good-bye!

The Towson gym use to be my favorite in my one pass to visit. I go almost everyday when Big Brian was the manager there. Over the past 6 months or more it seems the staff has changed and they are less friendly and could care less about the members. Problem is we pay a premium price to attend an upperclass gym. Here are some of my complaints. 1.) there have been several days the hot water was out. The staff at the front desk dont say anything until you get in the shower and have a nice little surprise. 2.) the thermostat. Im not sure why you dont circulate the air but you have it so humid in the Towson gym you can barley do an hour of cardio without having heat exhaustion, I understand you are now 24hrs and you might be trying to cut corners on your electrical bill but then why would people pay twice or three times as much as say for example, Planet Fitness. 3.) The Cardio Cinema. I believe you have a female manager now at the Towson Gym. She enters the cinema when people are working out. She has no sense of common courtesy and when they have to work on the projector or change the media she comes in switches on the lights starts talking loudly and could care less about the members. Seriously she is horrible compared to Big Brian. She is always on her phone and never pleasant to deal with. I have been a member for years and this is the first time I have had thoughts of pulling my memenbership and going elsewhere for a lot less.

Today the club is closed, as a result of "electrical problems". This is day two, I call the club to see if theyre open before driving 25 mins. but there is no answer, not even a courtesy message...because Im sure Im not the only one wondering. So yesterday I called another Merritt club location to see if my daughter and I could use the rec pool and I was directed to the site down in Baltimore city despite telling the club that I called that I have a six-year-old child and we wanted to use the pool she directed me to a club were no children are allowed, only adults. Needless to say, I was upset after I spent an hour in the car trying to get to one of their pools. Another complaint I have is if its supposed to be a 24 hour facility, why arent the pools open later on weekends when families can enjoy them? This location is open 6:30p on Saturday and 4:30p on Sunday, but 9:30p most others nights WHEN PEOPLE NEED TO GET UP FOR WORK AND KIDS HAVE SCHOOL....makes NO sense to me. Forget about rec swim during the week, there are a ton of kids at the swim school (lap) side, octogenarians in the Rec pool doing arthritis aerobics AND swim lessons. Really very little room for anyone else. If someone could recommend another gym that has a pool or another community pool thats open over the winter please let me know thanks!

They dont care about their customers. They were missing their TRX straps and jump ropes so went up to the front desk and politely asked for them, someone in management told me if they arent upstairs someone stole them. They didnt bother to apologize or look. When I had to quit because I moved out of state due to my job, they wouldnt make an exception and forced me to pay $200 to quit early. They dont have any experience with customer service, they were very rude when I tried to discuss my situation with them, I wouldnt have been as annoyed at paying the $200 if they had even the slightest bit of an understanding attitude. Overall, bad employees, I would never renew a membership with them.

So let me just start by saying I love this gym. Ive been going here for quite some time. What I do not like is the young heavy blonde "life guard" who rides the bike who very nastily told me and my boyfriend the pool was closed and added very condscedingly "there was just thunder". I pay a lot of money to this gym. We thought the storm was passing over and it was open since the gate was indeed open and there were 8 people just hanging out at the pool. If it was closed, would the gate not be closed and no one be there? And even so, what was the need for the attitude? Ill be taking my money elsewhere if this is how this gym is

I recently joined the club and it is a really clean and well maintained place. Towels are ready and have indoor and outdoor pools, a children area in case you have kids, and a variety of free weights along with classes and other activities to keep you active. I would give the place 5 stars but the ladies that work the front counter often dont greet or say anything to people coming in.

Great place to work out. I use the cardio movie studio alot. Great movies, cool, and allows for a good run. Just watch for prime times with kids. Can cause the locker room to be extremely crowded, wet, and a mess. Very family friendly. So if you prefer an atmosphere with less kids, try Canton, Ft. AVE, or Downtown locations.

This is my favorite Merritt location; the staff is always friendly and available. The club continues to add amenities. They just announced they are building an outdoor pool that will be opening this summer! I love to swim and this club always has one swim lane open. Can’t wait for the new pool! Keep it up Merritt!
