Dealing with them was like dealing with some corporate conglomorate that cannot think outside the box and provide true customer service skills (although they claim customer service is what they pride themselves on). The customer service is appalling and disappointing - we thought we had signed up with a great business. On Nov. 8th we went to the front desk at Evolve to cancel our month to month contract (due to a cross country move) we were told we had to deal with a third-party company. The man at the front desk at Evolve said he could NOT cancel us. When we finally got in touch with ABC, the third party company, we were told they could NOT cancel us. We were instructed to go back to Evolve to cancel. ?? Ugh. So back to Evolve - the night before we moved - to sign a cancellation for (which we had tried to sign a week before). Then a month later on Dec. 16th, my bank account was charged the full amount of membership! I had to call Evolve 3 times before they said, "Well, you did not cancel a month before and thats our policy." I explained how I TRIED to cancel but couldnt because Evolve/ABC didnt have their act together. Evolve didnt care. The signed cancellation form they had from me was dated Nov. 17th and since they had no "record" of me wanting to cancel before that, they continued to charge me AGAIN on Dec. 16th (even though thats 30 days after??). Unbelievable. I called 2 more times! Spoke to the owner who was the one who signed us up and he had the same complete LACK of customer service skills. He said hed refund me "half" of my charge. Half? Umm.. try the full amount since you are trying to scam us of the FULL amount by NOT letting us cancel when we wanted to cancel (on Nov. 8th), then finally giving us a form on Nov. 17th, and then still charging us AGAIN on Dec. 16th, a full 30 days later. If this is how Evolve plans to do business, GOOD LUCK. I suggest the owner and management read the Nordstrom Way and build some real customer service skills. If they want their business to survive, I strongly suggest their customer service skills evolve into something respectable. The word will certainly be spreading about how, despite the nicely equipped gym is, membership here is just NOT worth it.

This gym is phenomenal. Been going 4-5 times a week at all different times of the day for over a year now. First off - the price is great. Its not too close to a T-stop so makes sense that its priced a bit lower than some of the other places on the Red Line. But as a former member of BSC in Davis - there is simply no comparison. The equipment at Evolve is new, 100% clean, and almost 100% (see below) in awesome working condition. The people that work there are, for the most part, friendly. The gym-goers are pretty respectful overall. Its fairly easy to get a workout in at almost any time - the squat racks and flat benches, as in every gym, are in high demand in the evening hours. That being said, Ive never waited more than 10 minutes for one. The cardio equipment never requires a wait. A few improvements: 1. Spinning bikes: There really are no spinning bikes for people who dont do classes to use. The two bikes they have are either A. broken (the seat, handlebars do NOT stay adjusted and move through your workout, this has been a problem for over a year now), or B. labeled to be used only for 5 minutes. Pop a REAL spinning bike on the gym floor like the ones in the spinning studio- would be a massive improvement. 2. You could consider replacing a Smith machine with an additional squat rack. Otherwise, this place does it right. Join - you will not regret it. - Update 1+ year later - this place continues to be phenomenal. They have yet, despite my pleading, to fix the one "spin" bike that one can use without going to class despite my almost three years going there. I deduct one star for this spin bike issue - seriously, with a gym this big, get two spin bikes to put on the floor or allow gym goers to the spin studio when class is not in session. Other than that, things continue to be great.

This gym is an OK gym that could be better if the owner would re-invest in the equipment. Little things around the gym that are easy and cheap to fix will annoy you especially when they collect a yearly maintenance fee from you Equipment: your average set of free weights and machines. Very few clamps for equipment which is surprising given how cheap they are and how it increases safety when in use. Squat racks are always in use People use them for deadlifts but if they got something like a deadlift bar jack (Look it up Evolve Fitness), people would not need the squat racks to load up their weight and do them elsewhere. The preachers bars grips have been loose and are tough to grip (again, an easy fix). Same thing with the pull up bars and tricep pull down bars Parking is very tight especially before and after work. Their solution is to tell you to park in other businesses lots that are not well lit and far away. I get there is nothing that can be done about this but the owner still reserves a spot for his car near the front door instead of offering it to patrons. I parked in it once out of frustration of not being able to find a spot after 15 minutes of trying/waiting for someone to leave. I got a note on my windshield saying next time they will tow my car!

Dirty Conscious.... Im actually a homeless single mom. When the offered me the membership at the mall (Pete), they never mentioned anything of any annual fee. He had told me that if I didnt pay my sons membership on time, thats when my card was going to be charged. Unfortunately, the shelter program called me to let me know they were going to be moving me to another town, almost an hour away from the gym, so ofcourse, I e-mailed the manager explaining my situation, and that needed to cancel. Also told that I was charged some annual fee which was never told about. They would not refund my money since I initialed the contract. I explained that the only reason I initialed, is because they had told me specifically that the only thing that was going to be charged was the membership if I didnt pay on time. They wouldnt believe me. Ofcourse they going to believe their employee. I was screwed over. But you know what, at least I go sleep with a clean conscious, unlike them, taking the little a homeless person has. I just hope they never end up in my position being homeless, because then they going to know how does it feel to be homeless, and being taken away the little they have to feed their kid.

Avoid this gym at all cost. It gives everyone that comes in a different price, depending on what you can negotiate. I was given a "lifetime" $19.99 a month price because i paid $300 to join while under development, yet everyone I talked to had the same !9.99 and they paid little to nothing to join. They are now upping everyones monthly fee, including mine and will not honor the contract. For $20 a month you get what you pay for here. Basics. Basic machines, below standard changing rooms, and the classes are full and about 10 years behind the current fitness trends. (to be fair, a few of the trainers are good, Jason for one). The parking is horrid and soon to become worse when street parking is taken away. Assume you will circle for hours when it is winter and full. The management is arrogant and hostile, and it shows in the people who come and go at the front desk. Not service oriented at all. If you have to pay more than $20, go to a basic gym. It will have what this gym has. if you want more upscale, this is not the place for you either. They think they are in the middle, but really was only worth the $20 I previously paid, if that. $10 per month more like what they are worth.
