BUYER Beware, Stay Away From This Place: See Below: (Background, I used to work in the auto industry, but even mechanics need a hand sometimes when theyre in a place with no tools/ no space) I went into Meineke on Rt1 to replace my alternator. I already knew the alternator was bad when I brought it in and they confirmed that it was bad as well. I got the first quote of $470 for parts and labor. I had already looked up the alternator and it was about $180 and I had already looked up how long it should take to replace an alternator using ALL DATA. Most shops (including Meineke) use a system called ALL DATA which tells the mechanics how to repair something and how long it should take giving them an idea of how much to quote you. The quoted time for my car was 1.5 hours, so I figured it should be around $300-350. When I questioned them about why it was so much money they said that the alternator was $270 and they were charging me 1.75 hours of labor. I didnt even fight them on the quarter hour of labor they slipped in, but I told them I wasnt spending 270 on an alternator but I would still work with them if I went and got the alternator. They agreed, and I dropped off an alternator the next day. They call me again and say now theyre going to charge me $270 to put it in. I again ask them for a break down of cost for what sounds like 3 hours of labor, and the mechanic tells me that "...now that were not making any money on the parts we need to charge you for an hour of diagnosis". I was already told diagnosis was free when I walked in or I would have never left it there in the first place, and I never did get an explanation on where the other mysterious .5 hour came from. I told them my professional experience and why I didnt agree with that quote and at this point you would expect them to just charge me 1.5 hours and do the job seeing as the car has been in their bay for 2 days now. But instead all I got was a heartbreak story about how they couldnt make any money off me. Lets do some math from their original quote. $470 quoted Their cost on labor probably $25-$40for 2hours work. Their parts cost of the alternator $190 So they were trying to make a 50% profit on me and Im someone who worked in the industry and made it apparent that I knew what I was doing. Which is shocking to me in and of its self, but whats really shocking, is if they treat ME like that how do you think theyre going to treat YOU who probably doesnt know the repair business at all. Thats the real reason Im posting this.

Inclined to write as I have seen the other reviews for this auto shop and dont think its right that the first couple of reviews may give the wrong perception of this business. I am inclined to say that I do not negate or dismiss the experiences of the other consumers that were dissatisfied with this company. However, it is my belief that only the dissatisfied makes a mention of their consumer experience and rarely do satisfied costumers add to a business positive word of mouth. I needed a custom exhaust and found out at this shop that the entire system had to be replace as it was not sectioned off since I have specialty vehicle. From the time I pulled up the owners and mechanics gave great customer service. They were competent mechanics understanding the intricate needs of this specialized vehicles and most importantly I received and entire exhaust system for my Dodge Caravan within a couple of hours that is a great quality. It is rare in this age to see speed be met with efficiency, but my experience with the Norwood Meineke only has made me trust in their expertise to the point, I will trust no other shop in the area with my vehicle. Seldom do I pause to make mention of such a great experience but on the chance encounter that you are looking for the reference that will off set some dissatisfied consumers, allow me me to then gladly volunteer my creditably and say that I will stand with and advocate for this under appreciated Norwood gem!

I have been bringing my car to Meineke in Norwood for a few years now. The mechanics are extremely honest, understanding and to the point. Just a few days ago, my car was making a strange noise. At 4pm on a Friday, a mechanic agreed to take a look at it only to find that my water pump was about to burst. I told them I was in desperate need of the car to get to work the next morning. The mechanic, Brian, offered to stay however late it took to get it fixed that night- no extra charge. Two hours later, I had my car back. Its been running great. I appreciate the work and dedication of this place. They treat their customers well. Good mechanics are hard to find. Were lucky to have this shop in Norwood!

Stay away as much as you can from this guyes, Now this location has a new owner, who really wants to eat you a live. I Had my parts with me, and the only thing I asked him to charge one hour labor which was 80, plus tax.. roughly it was 128.00. when I agree d to fix it. After half an hours, he came back to me telling me that there was a broken a stabilizer link, which i believed he broke it intentionally, so he can rip me off even more. Again, i bought the part from auto zone, so he charged another hour, and I finally ended paying him 220. I was really mad and helpless.for what he did to me. So please safe your time and money and stay away from this guy .

In regards to the customer who wanted to bring his/her own parts. i just got a package of burgers from the local supermarket and went to MCdonald and asked to if they can make me a big mac using my own burgers to i bought from the supermarket. after the manager looked at me and stopped laughing he explained that the question was foolish and that customers like me who bring their own parts/hamburgers to a business would surely run most places out of business. Is people like you who would probably go to an in-surgeon with a cadabra heart and ask the Surgeon to do a hearts transplant.

Got quoted for some brake work at the Boch dealership down the road but it seemed high to me. Took it to Meineke and ended up paying hundreds less. Zac at the counter was very friendly and the work was done quickly. This location reopened last year under new management after being closed for years, so the negative reviews from many years ago dont apply. Ill be keeping them in mind for future auto work.

funny thread . Well, both sides have a point. Maybe the best thing to do is get a price ahead of time, if too high or the so called profit too high, go elsewhere. I can guarantee you that the financial analysis by the so called expert is flawed. PS my oil change was fine and I liked the place.
