I am a platinum member at Ulta, and have always found the customer service to be sub-par. However, my worst experience happened a few Saturdays ago when I got highlights done. Not only was staff unprofessional (one member was painting her own nails) but the woman who did my hair was lazy with her highlight application. Instead of weaving and separating strand by strand with a pick, on the mid sections of my hair she just alternated levels (i.e. Bleached a whole section and the laid down an unbleached section). I am also not at all tender headed at all, but she was so aggressive with shampooing and brushing my hair I watched as my hair was yanked out. However the worst part of my experience came when she did not wash the bleach out of the hair around the nape of my neck causing severe breakage. She didnt even fully blow dry my hair. For a 100 dollar service I was extremely disappointed. I called management a few days later only to be told I would be called back by a salon manager (which never happened) and had the phone was hung up on me. After calling again and speaking with a district manager did they agree to refund my service. However the first insisted that they "fix the problem", I told them that I wouldnt trust them with my hair ever again. It was just a horrible experience and horrible customer service.

Im writing this from the parking lot because Im so happy!! Ordinarily when I go into this store I dont ask for help, but this girl (I wish I had gotten her name) just asked if she could recommend me a foundation.. After I walked around the store putting all of them on my neck to color match haha. She recommended mally, one Id never thought about much, and seriously perfectly color matched me. She asked me about my skin type, my foundation preferences, what I usually go for etc. Im really happy with how insanely knowledgeable she was. Like she just looked at me and immediately knew what I needed. Now I feel kind of dumb because this particular day, Ive been working in a grease pit, my foundation is half gone and cakey from powder and touching my face. But she was so quick and wasnt pushy at all. A lot of times when I ask for help there people recommend things that dont suite me, dont ask questions, etc or seem kind of bothered to be helping someone. Not everyone though!! Dont get me seeing, I love all of the employees, but it was awesome that she was so determined to help without being pushy or just trying to get a product out the door that I wasnt happy with. Whenever shes there Im gonna let her pick things out for me everytime haha :)

One of the staff members who appeared to be the manager was incredibly rude to a customer. The customer came in with a coupon for an item that this location doesnt stock, and the lady decided to go to another location as a result. The manager got extremely defensive, saying its not her fault that "corporate overlooks us" and kept saying shes "tired of customers taking that out on her". The customer wasnt being rude at all - I was standing right next to her at checkout. The manager was also somewhat condescending to thr rest of the staff, and I heard her make a couple of other rude comments. Im never going back go this location if I can help it. Oh, and there was a notice posted on the window from Washtenaw County fire marshall saying it was their second non-compliance warning. What a disaster.

Everyone is super helpful and the store is kept clean; they have a WIDE selection. Biggest downfall is the prices and they are often out of stock on popular colors (black IT and Mally eyeliner). The points system really isnt that rewarding when you consider how much you need to spend for discounts. You can often get same item (popular makeup) PLUS extra brushes or items when ordering from QVC for cheaper...even with shipping figured in. Pay attention to promotions prior to shopping to avoid sticker shock.

The manager here is so rude. I brought my husband in with me and she clearly has a problem with guys. Good luck asking if they have more products in back without getting a death glare. Id rather drive further and go to the arbor land store, at least theyve always been friendly. No one is ever around to help. You have to go up front and get in the check out line to get help then they put you aside and help the rest of the line. 0 out of 5 stars.

This store has the most friendly and helpful staff and it is really clean compared to a lot of other beauty stores Ive been to. I love that you can browse without being hounded and you also dont ever feel ignored if you really need help. Ive also had a few services done in the salon, and the girls are very professional and are great at what they do. Everyone in the store is stylish and never snooty.

To address the negative reviews: Some of the people working here (retail side) arent always super friendly but they are generally nice enough to me. Ive never had any problems and Ive been to this store several times. Also, I went to the salon for the first time and Cara did a wonderful job cutting my hair, I highly recommend her!

Rude service....I was treated pretty bad by the manager of the salon after asking for my money back after getting a bad bad hair treatment. They made me wait a month to get my refund approved by corporate and finally they gave only 50% of my money back. They dared to tell me that I cant go back to the salon ever again!!!
