Former student here. To anyone considering coming here thinking they are going to seriously impove their life: DONT! This place is an absolute joke full of thugs and hoodrats who are enrolled either for the free room and board or as an option to get out of jail. Everyone is always in everyone elses buisiness, people CONSTANTLY instigating fights, always doing immature antics like tripping people, throwing water on you while youre sleeping, putting a used tampon in your things, etc. God be with you if you happen to be one of the smaller types because you WILL get bullied endlessly and the staff is NOT going to do anything about it unless you get physically assaulted. If you are from a middle class upbringing in an area with no crime, you are NOT going to make it here because the amount of disrespect and stupidity you will encounter on a daily basis will be beyond unbelievable. Seriously, grown adults pushing people out of their way instead of "Excuse me", cutting in line, pulling fire alarms at 2 am, grabbing food you are eating right out of your hand??? STAFF MEMBERS joining in on bullying harrassment? Sure go ahead and make complaint with the adminstration, nothing will come of it, unless you are a suck up that they like. Staying to yourself and not talking to anyone wont work either--people WILL go out of their way to mess with you because they have no other important concern other than just being a govermental leech and a drain on society. The biggest laugh in the end comes when you discover the certificate you earn after you complete will be useless because employers know the kind of trash that Job Corps harbors, and theyll have no part of it. Even now 10 years later, I am contacted by other former students--none of them have done anything worthwhile since they left. They work at Krogers or Target and have 4, 5 kids. If you know whats best for you, go to college or some reputable vocational program. STAY AWAY FROM JOB CORPS! Ive been there, the fights and non stop drama is hell on earth!

It was my second home, although as a business they were highly unorganized! Not enough staff, staff are overworked and underpaid. The school is in a somewhat poor area. But overall the knowledge and training outweighed the bad. There are some great people in the city of Flint, the program has many opportunities, but its to the individual. The education is free! If your lazy at home youll be lazy there. You wont last here if you dont want it for yourself! I like the fact that it has a single parent dorm, but the campus is not set up for a single parent, meaning keep your child with you and only you at all times. The single parents do not have the same privileges As the other students. The daycare was nice and always clean. There are other students, who smoke, curse and play sports and you may not want your child around that or worst them to get hurt. Yes, this campus is a smoking campus they had an area where "age appropriate" students can smoke. Before I left this program it was a "closed campus" meaning no matter what age the student is you may not leave without a staff member except for weekends. And you have to wear a dress code... If you enroll, focus on your completion of the program and dont stop until your done! If only the students exercise The rights they could have whatever and more. FGJCC "HOME OF THE CLOSED MOUTH WONT GET FED" Thats my advice.

Terrible place. DO NOT ATTEND. Staff here treat everyone like kids & prisoners. Theyre more concerned about your personal business (love life, sex life) rather than actually helping you get employed & into a career. They do EVERYTHING half ass and last minute for trainees & never really care or apologize. Yet expect trainees to conduct their selves like adults but they can never treat trainees as equals let alone humans with lives, feelings, emotions, etc. They will do everything in their power to keep you living on center for 6 months to 1 year, maybe even 2 just for the money they receive for the amount of "heads in beds". Then once you complete the program, will still hound you & go as far as withholding money theyre supposed to give you for completing if you dont keep in contact with them afterwards. There are so many things to rant about concerning this hell hole but this "review" would be pages long so Ill leave it at this - I absolutely hate this place and can not wait to leave for good. Pick any other facility & be sure to SCHEDULE A TOUR. Do not just get "recruited" through an OAC (outreach & admissions counselor). If you have the option, be a non-residential "student". And ASK QUESTIONS, lots of them. Be positive that youll be able to withstand being at this type of place.

FLINT/GENESEE Jobcorps is terrible and it emits the image that all jobcorps perform poorly. Management has no order or interest in providing what Jobcorps soul purpose is. There were multiple times in which I stated i had a issue with someone or something going on and they would treat it as a non important matter. What is the point of having a code of conduct and a system that is suppose to help the students. If the staff, managers, and director cannot abide by them. Terrible experience. Would not recommend Flint. would strongly consider your choices elsewhere and make Flint a dead-last decision. Tyler Green

At first sight, it was beautiful and I felt that it would be a nice institution to learn and a place where friends could be made. Enjoyed working with the staff in the main building during my "internship" especially with Mrs. Bivin, but once its our time, some of the "students" start acting like fools. And when it was time for me to exit out from the program, I didnt get any help from the counselor with job placement or college enrollments. I was on my own, so my advice is do your research and check out other Job Corps. 2006-2007

It has a lot of great opportunities here and some of the staff members really care about the trainees
