After having my rear-passenger side taken out (my car was still drivable) by a texter a month ago, my insurance told me I had three options to get my car running once more. After reading the awesome reviews about Degroots; I chose them! I really wanted to like this place; such a cute husband a wife team, a family-owned business, friendly service when I dropped off my car; it seemed like this was going to work out great! When I dropped off my car they listened to my concerns; the trunk was smashed in, my car was veering to the passenger side, etc. So friendly and nice... My Honda Civic is about 11 years old, and after the initial estimate came through from my insurance company I was shocked they didnt total my car. We were just a few ($300) hundred dollars away from the KBB value of $4500! Degroots told me they use after market parts to save costs so I thought, well, if its that great deal, maybe I will have them work on my front bumper too (that had some damage from our winter-from-hell snowbanks)! Fast forward: after delaying the promised date once, I get a phone call TODAY (the final due date) saying my car has a cracked windshield but is ready to be picked up. Due to the crack, I could either pay them to have the windshield replaced or file a claim with my insurance (who would hire them to replace it). Apparently I had a stone chip that caused a radiating crack in the month they had my car. The funny thing is, when I dropped it off there was a bullseye stone chip, but not anywhere near where the HUGE crack is in my windshield!!! Now I work in the service industry, and it seems to me that if you have a customers property and it is damaged while in your possession.... shouldnt the customer be notified? Instead, I get an excuse of: "this could of happened at any time, it was caused by a stone chip" and then they proceed to complain about how difficult it will be to repair my windshield because it has been done once before. By the way, there was no mention of any "chips" in the initial condition report. EXCUSE ME? I picked up my car today, with out even an "Im sorry" about the crack running across the drivers side of my windshield!! To make matters worse my car was not even remotely "clean" on the inside, my drivers side front tire is almost flat, and my car is STILL veering to the passenger side. Im scared to drive my car. I wish they would have just totaled it instead of milking the insurance for more than the initial estimate. It seems once again, insurance companies with "preferred" repair shops are NOT to be trusted. It is a scam. They will not fix up ANYTHING but their own pocketbooks. I am so sad to have to write this, because as an employee of a family-owned local business I believe in shopping small, supporting local business, and taking care of customers even when it means I have to admit I was in the wrong. I guess my expectations were too high; unfortunately a card for free car-washes and a "guarantee" doesnt seem to mean a thing to this business.

Terrible experience here and this isnt even where I got my car fixed. When I came to them for a estimate the older lady at the reception desk was SO RUDE. Very nonchalant and uncaring about my situation. She barely wanted to greet me when I walked in, as if I was interrupting her or as if they dont care for my business. The vibe overall was plain bad. I would never waste my money with a place like this, ever. I dont care if they did have a estimate for a few dollars cheaper than a different body shop, Id rather be treated like a valued costumer and not a bother since I am spending my hard earned money. Go to Petersens Body shop instead, trust me.

Mike Gonser and the staff at Carstar have great attention to detail. Mike is a pleasure to work with. They even had a rental car available when they needed to keep our car for a few days. Highly recommend!
