March 4, 2015: After seeing the gym today I felt obligated to add to my review. This gym is filthy and it doesnt appear anything will ever be done about it. The locker room floor is carpet and they clearly never actually clean it, when you head toward the showers there is lint/hair etc all over the ground. The shower curtains have mildew all over them and there are fruit flies filling each shower. It appeared the janitor cleaned the hallway in between the pool and locker rooms today and decided to leave all the filth at the entrance to the mens locker room. I wipe off the mats before and after I use them and typically am left with a wipe covered in dirt (before). I have worked out at LA Fitness in Troy, Birmingham, Royal Oak, Dearborn, Flat Rock, and Indianapolis and this gym is far and away the dirtiest. If not for the location right next to work, I would never use it. Looks like it is time for me to take the hit and work out at the one close to home and deal with the extra half hour of traffic it allots me. 7 months ago "I have been using LA Fitness facilities around SE Michigan for a little over a year. I was mainly using the Signature clubs in Royal Oak and Birmingham until I started working in Livonia simultaneously to 96 being closed. Due to traffic I typically work out every morning around 6 to beat the rush. I expected a drop off from the signature clubs, I was not expecting such a drop off in cleanliness. Every morning I wipe the mats before I use them and every morning I wipe off a considerate amount of dirt. It disgusts me that I use the same section of the mat every morning and I am able to wipe off that much dirt. Naturally, I clean the mat when I am done as well, to wipe off all my sweat. My biggest complaint is that, sometimes I am using the mat after I witness the cleaning lady clean it with her mop; I still manage to wipe off just as much dirt though. Part of it is due to the fact that she uses a mop, part of it is because she never changes the bucket of dirty water she is using, ask anyone in the gym they will tell you. This is one of the dirtiest gyms if not the dirtiest gym I have ever worked out at, and they would improve dramatically if they hired more help in the cleaning, because its always the one lady every morning with the same old routine. I wouldnt normally write a review, since I would likely wipe everything I use anyway, but this morning this cleaning lady was actually cleaning the sidewalk outside of the gym, instead of the gym itself! If somehow the workers there ever think they have extra time to clean something other then the gym floor, it would be nice if they would clean out the filthy lockers once in a while. They wont let you keep your locks on overnight, like most gyms, but it would be nice to put your clothes in the locker one day and not have to wipe the dust and dirt out so your clothes remain clean. Other than that, there is not much of a fallout from the other clubs, besides the. expected, which is the fact that they do not offer towels. Which you know when you sign up. Hope this review helps to make this gym a cleaner place, since I know complaining to the people that work there has not helped at all".

I joined here for the greater weight selection, sauna and the pool/hot tub which I use frequently. I was at Fitness 19 before, and it was a great gym too. I like the later hours, nice selection of stuff and the location isnt too bad. My contract isnt too bad and I can cancel at anytime. I wish they had another maintenance guy since there is a fairly lazy person who does a halfway job cleaning the locker room for example. He will get some stuff but miss other things; doesnt make sense. He is pretty poor when it comes to keeping the paper towel dispensers full and emptying the trash bins; however its generally just him working. There is a woman who works with him as well but its not nearly enough to cover the whole gym. They need like a staff of 5 or something. Im not a fan of there shark-like salesman Mario, who tries his hardest to sell you on a membership while playing on his phone and talking with other workers. If I want to bring someone at least give them your undivided attention. Arthur seems to have a grasp on what goes on at the gym and I talk to him whenever I think something should be done. The pool is relatively clean but there is sometimes a huge pile of scum in the hot tub which is fairly gross. However its generally really hot and I dont mind splashing it out. The sauna I have no idea when its cleaned, its always pretty gross when I go in. Another big complaint is whenever you bring someone in on a guest pass they try and sign them up automatically, and are hard pressed to let you do otherwise. Kind of annoying. But overall its a great gym that I get tons of use out of. I wish some of the equipment was newer or in a little better shape but it is what it is and I will probably continue to go unless it gets really bad

This gym is very clean, and has somewhat newer equipment which is a plus. I have taken a few spin classes here and had a blast. The instructors (for the spin classes at least) are very friendly and very motivating, and the classes are really fun. The locker rooms are usually very clean. A big problem with this particular club is some of the front desk staff. There are some staff who are friendly and welcoming, but some staff make it really obvious that they would rather be somewhere else. There have been more than a few times that Ive walked in with just the scanner facing the door and no one at the desk. I would have to scan my tag myself. A lot of times I say "Hello" or "Good Morning" to certain people only to have them just scan my badge and not respond back. I remember this one particular incident where the young lady was off talking to someone else when I walked in. She looked at me while I waited at the front desk for her to scan my tag, and she just continued her conversation! As she began to break away from her conversation, I finally got fed up, and reached over and grabbed the scanner myself ( I like to look online to see how many days a month I go to the gym). Overall Ive been to worse LA Fitness locations, but this one isnt so bad if you get the right staff that day.

If you are on the fence about LA and looking for a gym find somewhere else because this place is complete dogshit. Ive been coming here for about a year now and Im ready to cancel my membership. Too many times Ive come in to see a filthy locker room with empty paper towels on multiple dispensers, and this also goes for the toilet paper AND soap. Sometimes all at once showing that nobody has been in there all day which is absolutely mind boggling considering they have a total of two bathroom areas. Really L.A. employees? I worked at a grocery store with multiple bathrooms around the place and hauled ass to do everything myself and there was only one person in charge of it. To top if off when calling in to a see of theyre open on labor day holiday this year I get a rude exchange of words from an employee who is no doubt ass mad that they had to come in that day, they close at 8p.m. too get over yourself. They charge a lot of money monthly for poor service, and they dont even have machines to dry off your wet clothing after going in the pool nor do they have a towel service like my last gym. They arent nearly as flexible hour wise like other gyms around to compensate for ANY of this. Find somewhere else, I recommend lifetime.
