This is a review of the comfort consultant they had come out and quote my job *Full system replacement: AC unit High efficiency Furnace Tstat Pete G. was absolutely fantastic. His quote is very VERY thorough. He took the time to find out what we wanted (we hate being hot so we keep the air conditioning on a LOT - think March - November and keep it around 63-65 in the winter) and tailored his suggestions to both the size of our house and our needs. He explained virtually everything to me -- answered all my questions. Pete talked to me like a human and not in any sort of condescending way. Yes I know this is cliche but sales reps can have a tendency of talking to women differently and the last quote I got the rep made me feel like a second class citizen who didnt know anything about anything. The other thing I dont think sales reps for HVAC realize is that most people dont buy more than 2 or 3 units in their lifetime (especially someone like me who has only recently entered home ownership). Most people have no idea whats going on or how these things work and regardless of being female reps need to find a way to talk to customers that doesnt make the customer feel stupid. I dont know how long Pete has been working for Flame or even working in the sales industry but this is a difficult skill to master and Pete excels. In his inspection he pointed out some of the issues with our hookups and current code violations that they would replace when they do their work. Unlike some companies Flame will pull all permits necessary and file with my town and if any of their work fails inspection they come back and fix it to be up to code. Went through all the warranties and discounts wed get with the unit and *approximate* yearly savings with the units - quoted cost (labor inclusive) and net cost after rebates. He thoroughly discussed financing options as well as cash/credit options. Pete even informed us that there was a class-action suit with our current furnace that expires at the end of June (our furnace was installed 06/93 -- expires at 20 years and it is almost halfway through 06/13) that if there is a cracked heat exchange you can get $650 out of the suit through Bryant. They are a licensed Bryant dealer and have some neat warranties that pass to other owners of the house. I dont know what changed between the previous reviews (from 2010) and now but at least Pete our comfort consultant is a phenomenal sales person. I still have to get a few more quotes but Flame is in the top running for my business so far! -----I will update *when* I book their services and they complete my job!

My furnace died on a record setting cold day in January of this year. It was 29 years old and I knew when I purchased the house 7 years ago that I would have to get a new furnace as the current home owner. While my house was quickly cooling down, I had to take time off from work and compare vendors, including Randazzo (through Costco) and my local furnace repair person. After careful consideration I chose FLAME. First, I wanted a Bryant, which is what the house had originally. Secondly, I didnt want the top of the line furnace, I didnt need all of the fancy features. Additionally, I needed something with good financial options and that was a part of my decision. While each sales person treated me fairly (as a female home owner) I felt most comfortable with Tom Smith at FLAME. I compared apples to apples with each quote and FLAME was slightly higher in cost for the options I had selected; however this is an expensive purchase and there were expensive options with each vendor. When it came time for install, these installers were knowledgeable, considerate, courteous and clean - I was impressed at how they cleaned and prepd the space along with sheets they put down so as not to track dirt / snow in and out of the house. The installers took the time to show me various things about the furnace including maintenance and answered all of my questions, including have them mark the furnace with signage as the previous furnace was marked. I work in IT construction at a major health facility and work with multiple vendors including HVAC. I know what to expect and I also know this can be a difficult decision because my home was cooling quickly and I was making a long term decision. The sales person did not put any pressure on me and I appreciated that as well. I would be happy to talk to anyone who is in need to replace their furnace / A/C, especially on an emergent basis. (Unrelated, I had a minor basement flood 3 weeks later and used Northwest Drain - they are excellent!)

Just so you dont waste your time, if youre looking for the cheapest heating cooling company in town, this is not your place. But, if you want to be sure that when you invest in a furnace or air conditioner for your home youre getting extremely high quality components installed by experts, look no further. Ones home is usually the biggest investment one has. Further, you and your family LIVE there for gods sake. The heating, cooling, plumbing and roof have got to work and be reliable. Installing a new furnace/air conditioner or making major repairs to existing is something one does only every several years. I dont think this is the place to skrimp. I didnt, I hired Flame to replace my furnace, then later my A/C. The estimator was intelligent and helpfully explained my options. The workmen were very professional and unbelievably respectful of my home, even wearing shoe covers every time they went in or out of the house. It was obvious by talking to them that their company treats them well, so they do their job with pride. The jobs were done on time, the finished product is great, and Im confident I have a furnace that will last at least 20 years. So, if I spent one or two hundred more than I would have with a company that uses non-certified, inadequately trained workers, over the course of several years Ill get my moneys worth. I think you get what you pay for. If you want to be sure youre getting the best for your home, you cant go wrong with Flame.

I had Flame come out to check my furnace - the igniter needed to be replaced. They charged me 100 bucks and refused to repair my unit - they said they could not repair it because they felt there might be a small hole in the heat exchanger. No CO2 test, flames looked normal. They said that a salesperson would get in touch and they did. He suggested replacing the whole furnace and might as well do they AC well since we are in there and its ten years old. Luckily - I know a couple independent experienced HVAC guys and two of them looked at it. They said my furnace was fine, replaced the igniter and said dont worry about it. If you look this up online it is quite common. A small leak in the heat exchanger (if there is even a hole) is not a problem unless it turns into a large leak at some point. This is all about air pressure and vacuums and goes over my head. They said the main thing to look for is if the flames are blue and no air is mixing. What they call flame out. I think Flame just uses this as an excuse to put an uneducated consumer over a barrel. They are leaving them without heat (it was very cold out) to force a sale and a decision. I will get my furnace and AC fully inspected as soon as it gets warm enough to look at the AC. My advice - get a second opinion. I will say Flame has a better rep than some of the other local providers and my independent guys were surprised at how it was handled. Buyer beware !!!
