I live in West Saint Paul, and did a somewhat brief look at gyms this month (10/2008). I visited Lifetime in Saint Paul and Highland Park, YMCA in South Saint Paul, as well as Anytime. I did not visit Snap Fitness because I figured theyd be similar to Anytime and were further from where I live. Theres also a Lilydale Tennis and Fitness club which was a little further away. And the Veterans Memorial Center in Inver Grove probably is the best gym and the best value if its convenient to you. Since I couldnt find any prices online, Ill tell you what they were when I looked. Monthly rates were $60 for the Y, $50 for Lifetime, and $40 for Anytime. All have various joining fees, Anytime was the only one that offered to waive that fee if I joined the day I visited, so Im glad I visited last. The benefits for the Y are numerous: the most extensive group class schedule; a very nice indoor/outdoor pool in addition to basketball, racquetball, volleyball, and the standard cardio and strength machines; access to any Y in the country. I also love their mission. However, they were the most expensive, and it was $10 more if you wanted towel service. LifeTime came in at $10 cheaper; however, this only includes their bronze level clubs nationwide (see their website for the listings). Its $10 more per level. They definitely had the nicest facilities of the 3. The downtown gym has a pool, basketball courts, spas and whirlpools and everything else. The Highland Park facility is nearly as extensive, but is also open 24 hours. They have several group classes every day, but not nearly as much as the Y. The one thing that turned me off was convenience. Being downtown, it would probably take about 10 minutes to get in and out of the place from my car. Additionally, it was further away than the others. Anytime is a basic gym. It offers only cardio and strength machines. Theres 2 bathrooms with showers but no towel or lockers. The West Saint Paul gym is trying to offer some group classes but these are still very limited. However, it has everything one needs for a good workout alone or with a partner, and the one rate is good across the country. During peak hours, cardio machines can be full but Ive never waited more than a couple of minutes. All the equipment is new (its a new chain) and there are TVs on every cardio machine (the Y also had most machines with TVs). Ive loved the convenience of having a place where I can pop in for 30 minutes on my way home without wasting time getting in the front door or onto a machine. Its also 24 hours which may come in handy at some point. Additionally all 3 of the facilities Ive visited are sharp and clean. The one regret is that I may have joined the wrong AnyTime. They are franchises so while the rates are the same across the board, specials and joining fees vary (as well as possibly contract length). Also, for insurance reimbursing, it helps to join the gym youll visit the most.

I love this gym. Hands down the best Anytime Fitness I’ve gone to. They have a lot of equipment that even some larger gyms do not have, such as the prowler and a fairly decently weighted tire outside. They also let you use that equipment as long as the trainers are not using them. Even then, the trainers are nice enough to let you work around them. I have found the training staff here does a much better job at training to specific needs than many other gyms. They actually sit down with you and find out exactly what it is your goals are. Based on that, they train you with different purposes, unlike other gyms that train everyone the exact same way. The manager, Jim Dalton, does a great job making sure all his members are happy. After ending my membership at another Anytime for a few months (I was at a different club but learned quickly how convenient Anytime Fitness is in comparison), I decided to re-join through this location based on how well Jim runs his club. If you are looking for a gym where you are planning on winning the next World’s Strongest Man contest, this may not be for you. However, if you are looking for a far above average 24 hour fitness center, and want to reach many common fitness goals, this is a place I would recommend.

GREAT ANYTIME! I have been a member of the Mendota Heights Anytime Fitness since January of 2008 and a Personal Training client for almost 2 years. I made the switch from Lifetime as I felt the membership prices were too high and I have been more than pleased with my experience at Anytime and with its staff. The recent move of the gym across 110 to the Mendota Plaza has been a great improvement- a much bigger space with a fitness room and additional exercise equipment-- definitely one of the best Anytimes I have ever seen. The management is very personable knows me by name and takes time to catch up and ask how everything is going at least once a week (as I have seen them do with many other members.) The personal training team at this Anytime are also fantastic and are great at tailoring the work out to the person and their needs. Between the management, training staff, and great members-- the gym is a very positive, fun and energetic place.

There are three Anytime Fitness locations within 3 miles of the Hampton Inn in Eagan, where I spent five days for work. I picked this gym because of its deservedly high rating in Google. Lou set me up with a one-week membership at a fair price. I was there four consecutive days for 60-to-90 minutes by 0630. All the gear was in good shape (there was one treadmill I found a little shaky, but that just could have been me) and there was a balance between members and gear so I was able to complete my routines without any real issues. Props to Lou, Mary, and Tristan for running a gym that nicely covers all the essentials for day after day of regular workouts. TIP: The Anytime Fitness on Silver Bell in Eagan looked pretty nice when I went by it one evening. The staff at the Korean restaurant next door highly recommended it.

I really enjoy the atmosphere that this gym provides. Not only is there plenty of equipment choices for you to work out with but the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The environment is always upbeat and positive from the music to the people working out beside you. You can tell that the trainers there have a lot of fun and know how to get their work done. I have used the personal training program there and it has really helped me in my fitness life, from tips on how to better work out to supplements to take to maximize my experience. I live in Eagan with another anytime closer to my home but choose to visit this one more frequently due to the fun atmosphere choice of equipment and staff present to assist me with my workout needs. I would highly recommended stopping by to visit and work out.

This Anytime club is more then just a gym. Its staffed by a group of people who love helping people change their lives. I dont mean to be dramatic, but making a commitment to a healthier lifestyle is a difficult change for most people, it sure is for me. But with this group of trainers, a great manager, and a caring owner, changing peoples lives is the norm, not the rare exception at Mendota Anytime Fitness. In my case Nate, Mary, and Trista have made it possible for me to lose 69 pounds so far just this summer. I get healthier and stronger by the day and still have many more pounds to lose. With their total lifestyle approach to weight management I know I will finally succeed where I have failed for decades! All I can say is thank you to all of them, AND SUGGEST YOU COME JOIN ME THERE.
